Yes! James Willetts, son of Edward and Selina Marsh Willetts came to the USA via ship Thornton out of Liverpool, England, and was of Irish descent. Yes, they lived in Kewanee, Ill and had several children come over on the ship with them. One of the children was Martha Willetts who married John B Boswell, Jr. Their child, Jessie Boswell is my grandmother, who married John William Long on 06/08/1893 in Cambridge, IL.

William James Lutley b1890, Somerset, UK

William James Lutley went to work for the Imperial Bank of India and travelled regularly between London or Liverpool and Bombay between 1920 and 1939. In the mid to late 1920's he married Alice Estelle Phelps who seems already to have a son (named Noel Phelps Jones). In 1931 they had a daughter Ann(e) Elizabeth Lutley, born 6 Nov in Somerset.
Does anyone know anything more of this family from about 1940 in India or anywhere else?
Thanks.
Christine

Willetts, George R, father Samuel and wife Etty

So, Ive reopened up my research about my lineage and suddenly I'm unsure if I took a wrong turn. I've found 4 census records that match my great great Grandfather Samuel Willetts. I know for sure his wife's name was Mary, but I'm unsure now of her maiden name Skitt.... And ...depending on which census is correct Im unsure of Samuels parents names. The lines follow back as far as dates are concerned on most of the records! UGH
But I do know the last place my Great Grandparents George R Willetts and Etty Willetts lived before they came over was Hampstead, my Great Great Grand Dad Samuel was still alive and in England as of June 1924.. does any of this stuff ring a bell to anyone?

James Willetts born 1852 in Worcestershire,England settled in Kewanee Illinois around 1870 had 2 brothers who left Illinois, Edward Dennis Willetts, who left Kewanee for Iowa prior to 1898, when he married Christine E. Boswell on 31 Dec 1898 in Lamoni, Decatur County, Iowa. He never returned to Illinois as a resident. Also, John Emery Willetts Born: Jan 1866, Pennsylvania
Marriage: Sarah Adeline Molesworth
Died: 1942 at age 76
No other information on him at this time. I am the Great grandson of James Willetts, Grandson of Albert E. Willetts, son of Robert James Willetts, born in Kewanee. I have stood before the grave of James Willetts in the Kewanee cemetary 20 some years ago, the same cemetary my grandparents are interred in.
It is a known family fact that there indeed was an argument between James & one of his brothers, resulting in permanent hostilities, never resolved. I do not know the cause of the argument, but it is a historic fact. The brother went to Grinnell, Iowa, sometime around the turn of the century, 1900. James died young, I believe around 45 years old. He worked in the coal mines in Kewanee.
Two of his sons lived out their lives Cambridge St. in Kewanee,Illinois
I will be going to Kewanee again in the next week or so, to talk to surviving family there. I might be able to get more information to post after that time.

I have some data on a Willetts family received from a fellow family researcher that goes as follows:
Thomas Owen m Ellen Jackson abt 1800-1890 Dudley. Among their children Howard William Owen married Gertrude Hadley. Their daughter Gertrude(Gertie) Martha Ellen Owen m John Henry Willetts . Their children are Carol Ann Willetts and John Henry Willetts . Carol Ann m Ron Taylor and John Henry m Janet Dudding..their children are Richard John and Lara jane Willetts.
All this data is from Gertie Willetts via another researcher of the Owens family who like me is descended from the marriage of Edward Owen and Mary Ann Jackson who were brother and sister of Thomas Owen and Ellen Jackson.
Hoping to find a link

Hi Sara,

A bit of background : My mothers parents were Willetts & Cole, and my fathers parents were Round & Knowles. These were among the most numerous family names, in the Netherton, Dudley and Rowley Regis areas where many of my ancestors seem to have come from a century ago. Its a mixed blessing in that there is a lot of genealogical data about, but sorting out which is relevant is not always straightforward.

I have concentrated on looking at the Round & Knowles side of the family, and my aunt Anna has been looking at the Willetts & Cole side for a few years. see the Rowley Regis Online webforum.

I only know a fraction of the Willetts tree that Anna has identified, but it does reach back to the 1600s, and has several branches. One of the branches contains Daniel Willetts, who is discussed by Lisa Stevens on this Rootsweb forum. I don't think that my tree connects to yours, but as I mentioned earlier, I only know some of the bare branches, so I may be wrong.

I have tried to attach a pdf file which describes the bare Round family tree and identifies the "not yet proven" ancestors. Several Williams and Phebe do appear among these "not yet proven" ancestors, so I cannot rule out a connection on this side of the family. A big reason for the "not yet proven" ancestors is that the current evidence is derived from 3 LDS pedigrees, which although the names are consistant, contain differing dates etc. It does not inspire confidence, until I can obtain other supporting evidence.

Unfortunately pdf files are not allowed, so I will need your email address if you wish to see the file. Sorry about that.

Bye for now,

Mike

Hi Mike, I haven't been working on my Willetts lately but I have made some progress since I made that posting. My great grandmother was Eleanor Louisa Willetts b. 17 Oct 1894. Her parents were Mary Elizabeth Nash b.1872 and Thomas Henry Willetts b.2 Dec 1865 (Rivett Forger). His parents were Ellen Bloomer b.7 Dec 1838 and William Thomas Willetts b.17 Nov 1838, their other children are William Henry Willetts b.1861, Levi b.1863, Arthur b.1871, Issachar b.1875 and Arthur b.1881.
I have William Thomas' parents as William Willetts and Mary Ann Minors married 24 Mar 1838. Does this connect to you at all?
I also though it was funny that your name is Round. Eleanor Louisa's daughter Dorothy married my grandfather William Wilfred Round.
Sara :)
