Looking for James Addison Williams, probably son of Lucius L. Williams who was also married to Alice Amelia Carter. James would be likely be the son of an earlier marriage as Alice's age doesn't match up right. James A. married twice, to a Laura who had sons Harry and Jack (James A. Jr?). He later married Willie Myrtle Tipton with whom he had a son in 1933. If you have info, it would be appreciated.

Edmond? Williams of Alabama

I am trying to find the parents of Charlotte Williams born in AL 08 April 1828. She was married to William F. Birdsong in Madison Co, AL in 1848. Charlotte died in 1885 and her death record states her father's name was Edmond Williams, no mother's name listed. I found an Edmond Williams in Madison Co AL census 1840 and thought this to be her father since he had a daughter born 1825-1829. I found him again in 1850 Marshall Co, Al listed names and ages of all of his children. Apparently this is not my Edmond as he had a daughter Mary age 24 born ca 1826. All of the other children's ages correspond with the 1840 census as well therefore leaving no room for my Charlotte in 1840 census.
Does any one have any information on this Edmond Williams or another Williams in that area who would have had a daughter born 1828 that you can not place? It might be possible that one of her children giving the information for the death certificate was wrong about her father's name and Charlotte was a widow when she died (she was murdered). Any assistance or advice you can give me to find the parents of Charlotte would be highly appreciated. A family story also says that Charlotte had quite a bit of Indian blood in her and since I don't know her mother's name it could have came from her Mother. Thanks and hope someone out there has some information that will help or guide me in my search.

Williams family of St. Just/ St. Ives, Cornwall

I am trying to sort out the children of John and Nanny Williams. I have three sources of information, with some overlap of names and dates but also some conflicts.

According to my grandmother, who was John and Nanny's great-granddaughter, they had 14 children, of whom we know 8 names: Nanny, Christian Ann, Martha (b. 1843 in Morvah, Cornwall), Pee, George, Johnson (b. Nov 14, 1856), Kate and Dick.

A relative has done searches and round baptismal records for seven children: Matthew Angove (bap. May 5, 1834 in Breage, Cornwall), William (bap. Jan 10, 1836in St. Just in Penwith, Cornwall), Nanny (bap. Feb 9, 1837 in St. Just), Christian Ann (bap. Dec 3, 1838 in St. Just), Lavinia (bap. Nov 8, 1840 in St. Just), Martha (bap. Apr 2, 1843 in St. Just) and Pee (bap. Apr 19, 1847 in Morvah, Cornwall).

I have recently done some census searches which have only confused the issue. I have tracked what I believe to be this family from St. Just in Penwith, Cornwall in 1841 to Halestown, St. Ives, Cornwall in 1851-1871. From these four censuses I get the following fourteen children: Mary (b. abt 1829), Elizabeth (b. abt 1831 in Perran, Cornwall), John (b. abt 1835 in Perran), Nanny/Nancy (b. abt 1837 in St. Just), Christian Ann (b. abt 1839 in St. Just), Lavinia (b. abt 1841 in St. Just), Martha (b. abt 1843 in Morvah), William (b. abt 1846 in Morvah), Pee (b. abt 1847 in Morvah), Elizabeth Ann (b. abt 1849 in St. Ives), Jane b. abt 1850 in St. Ives), George H. (b abt 1853 in St. Ives), Johnson/Johnston (b. abt 1856 in St. Ives) and Catherine T. (b. abt 1860 in St. Ives).

From all that I only have four names that match all three lists: Nanny, Christian Ann, Martha and Pee. Does anyone else have any information that would help me sort this family out?

Re: Searching for Bennett Williams, NC

Hi,
There was a Bennett Williams Sr., b.1754, living in Granville Co.,NC when he volunteered in the Revolutionary War, but he was born in Maryland. In his pension application in 1832, he was living in Person Co., where previously he was living in Caswell Co., which became Person in 1792. I don't know if you've seen the pension, but it is online at the following:

http://www.ncgenweb.us/ncgranville/military/williams-bennett...

The fact that he was called "Sr." means there was another younger Bennett Williams residing in the same County at the time of his application; that person didn't necessarily have to be related to him, a person was designated as "Jr." and "Sr." to keep from being confused with one another simply because they were living in the same County, however, it was possible he had a son or grandson by that name.

There was also a younger Bennett Williams from Warren Co.,NC, the son of Francis Williams, who left a will probated in May 1793. Francis Williams will named his heirs: sons Bennett, Leonard, & Zachariah Williams; daughters Fanny, Betsy, & Nancy Williams; wife: Margaret Williams. Also mentioned as executors were brothers Permenas & Ashkenaz Williams, and witnesses were Thomas Williams (no relationship mentioned), Thomas Sims, Robert Hammock.

Francis and his brothers were the sons of Robert & Anne Williams of Bute Co., Robert's will is transcribed here:

http://www.ncgenweb.us/ncwarren/wills/williams-r-1772.htm

If you haven't done so already, you may want to research the people in these families further since the name "Bennett Williams" seems to run in them.

Deloris Williams

Searching for Bennett Williams, NC

I am searching for the parents of my ancestor, Bennett Williams. What I know so far is:

Bennett Williams was born in 1797 and died between 1880 and 1890 in what is now Wayne County, NC. He may have been born in NC or Virginia - I've seen sources both way.

Another researcher tells me that he has notes from an aunt stating that Bennett's father was also named Bennett, and his father was also named Bennett and was from Maryland. (Note that this information is word-of-mouth from an aunt, not proven.)

Bennett married Karen Jordan (1801-about 1835) in 1822. He and Karen have five children:

Catherine A Williams (1823-1899) also known as Kitty.
Isaiah Williams (1824-1905)
Ben Williams (1826-????) possibly named Bennett
Caroline Williams (1827-????)
Elizabeth Williams (1833-????)

Karen must have died some time not long after Elizabeth's birth, because Bennett married Sallie Smith in 1839. Sallie was only 17 at the time. As far as I can tell, Sallie and Bennett had no children.

Early Census records show that Bennett was living in Sampson County, NC in the 1820s and 30s. He was living in Person County, NC in 1840. In 1850 he's back in Sampson County, but by 1860 he is in the Bentonsville area of Johnston (later Wayne) County NC where he lives until death, some time between the 1880 census (which he is in) and the 1890 census (which he is not in).

I have also found a Bennett Williams in Caswell County at the time of the Revolutionary War. This may be my Bennett's father or grandfather, but I have no proof, only hints.

If anyone has research on this branch of the Williams family, I would appreciate it.

James Addision Williams, James A. Williams, J. A. Williams

Looking for information on James Addison Williams, possibly listed as James A. or as J.A. Williams. We think his father was Lucius L. Williams. They lived in Florida, Escambia County, or Santa Rosa Florida. James was born in Montana, married a woman named Laura with whom he had two sons, Harry and Jack. Jack may have been James Addison Jr. He later married Willie Mae or Myrtle Tipton in Houston, Harris County Tx. They had one son. Lucius, his father, may have been married to Alice Amelia Carter who had previously been married to a Kennedy. They had several children, Lucius Jr., Alice Amelia Arizona Williams, Selma Williams, Irone Williams. Any information would be very much appreciated.

Re: descendant of Stephen Williams and Elizabeth Kinman

Although this information has been going around the Williams family for years, there is nothing to suggest it is true. James Williams actually died in Washington, Wilkes Co. Nothing shows his father was Reubin. James estate papers do not include Stephen, neither do DAR reports filed by Jame's descendants. A letter written by George Webb for his mother Amanda Williams, daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth to her cousin Sarah Strohecker says that Thomas Green (son of Stephen and Elizabeth)s birth records say that his father was Stephen and his grandfather Reubin (not his great grandfather and no James.) DNA results tie this to Reubin Williams who died in Washington County (not Washington, Wilkes Co) in 1812. Many of Stephen's children were born in Wshington Co and all of the children who lived until 1880 said there father was either born in North Carolina or Georgia.
