Probably the easiest is for you to do an Ancestry search for David Willott. If you have started a tree, green leaves will be waving. Click those leaves to find family threads.

My file is Barker and I am Edward Lee Barker, Jr.

Once in the trees you can click the Collaborate area for Member Connect.

You can import any family member into your tree. You will mess up a few times but it is pretty easy after you learn your way around.

Gloria,

Then we are related. Be sure to go over my online Ancestry file. I started with handwritten papers my Mom and Grandmom had copied from records while visiting in 1967 in Macclesfield.

From there I started piecing together family from Ireland/Scotland/Canada and all points in the US.
I do not have any info directly on Robert Bruce Willott. However, David Willott travelled from UK to Canada for 3 months in 1921 to visit two brothers, one in Golden (BC) and the other in Maple Creek (Saskatchewan). David had four brothers altogether - George died in infancy, John never came to Canada as far as we know, but James definitely lived in Canada, and William may well have done.

I have heard he was a migrant farm worker at the time and later served prison time somewhere in the southern United States for murder.

I am researching the family of a friend of mine, and one of the names is Thomas SADLER of Manchester, probably born around 1890. My friend learned from family members that Thomas SADLER was related in some way, possibly nephew, but I can't see that connection there, Charles Courtie WILLOTT. I know it's a longshot, but, Chris, or any other WILLOTT folk related to Charles or his family, are you familiar with Thomas SADLER, or any SADLERs? Do you know of a connection between them and the WILLOTTs?

Regards,
Kristy
Australia

To Chris, also Chris J in Ontario

The prolific nature of the Willotts in and around Cheshire in the early 19th Century might explain the numbers in Stoke.

There is (was?) a building near Adlington known as Willott Hall.

William Willott was born about 1792 in Adlington, Cheshire. He had many children, including William Jr., Martin, Thomas, George, John, Elizabeth, Maria, and Peter.

Peter was born 1831 in Lyme Handley, Cheshire, and had several children - Ellen, George, James, William, David, and John.

John W. was born 1858 in Ardwick (Manchester). He moved to Cheshire about the time he married, and had six children - Edith, Ernest, Harold, Dora, Marion, and Frank.

Frank W was born in Macclesfield in 1884 and had two sons - Geoffrey (1914-2003) and Harold (1918-1991).

Geoffrey was my father.

I would like to correspond with anyone who can supple more info or who would like info that I have.

Dominic Willott

I have received email supplying information a reply had been posted to my message board query of Feb 2003. I find it was actually a Robin Willott who made the message and Stephen Willott who replied. I am sorry I am unable to be of help in your search, I am also tracing the family with no background info apart from my Grandfather, father and brother who were born in New Zealand. I think my grandfather was born here, that his parents came from England but have no idea from where and at what time. My uncle moved to Australia in his early 20s, lived in Sydney from there-on, worked for dxDept on Main Roads. Any info on the family history would be gratefully received. Thankyou

Robin:

I noted that your branch of the Willott family moved to London from Manchester. Mine moved to London from Macclesfield during the second half of the 19th century. There are not too many Willott's in London perhaps we're related. The relative of mine who moved to London was Jonathan WILLOTT (b. 1848). His grandson (my father) Peter migrated to Australia.

From what I've seen the Willott name seems to be be most common in the Staffordshire and Cheshire shires and surrounds. Do you have much information about the family and the name?

Cheers,

Stephen Willott

Hello Robin, thankyou for your prompt reply. As I don't have the christian names of my great grandparents it leaves me little to go on so will visit the library and go thru the fitch files and perhaps can backtrack these names thru my grandfather, will advise if I have any luck, may find a birth place of Ggrandparents. Have you have many enquiries tracing family history. We feel out on a limb here, very unusual name in NZ but there are more of the deritives. Regards, Shelley

They had two sons and 2 daughters but unknown if they were born before or after arriving in NZ. My Ggrandfather, grandfather, uncle and father were all artists. There are many WIllott's listed in the Sydney Australia phone book, but very few Willott's in NZ although more Willett, Willets, Willet and Wilmot (which I see from family history are all derivitives of the original spelling Willott and therefore all related.
