If your thought is that the Joseph you show as a descendant of Francis Willoughby is the same as Joseph (1690-1751)who is the subject of this message thread, I think you are most likely mistaken.

Taking a quick look at the line of Francis shows his birth was 1588 and the birth of his son Nehemiah (by a second wife) was 1644. Nehemiah's son John was born in the late 1680s. Unless procreation occurred in a very unusual fashion, it would be very unlikely that John's grandson, Joseph, was born just a few years later in 1690.

This, of course, does not mean that you are not descended from Francis but it does mean that I'm not, unless something else shows up to suggest otherwise. ;>(

If you are referring to Francis W'by, Deputy Gov. of Massachusetts Colony, then I have scads of info on him. When I first began geney research abt 4 yrs ago, I foolishly took the info at One World Tree and ran with it. Thinking I was a direct descendant of Francis, I did countless hours of research on he and his. The info is basically correct UNTIL one gets to an Isaac W'by who married Elizabeth W'by in Bertie, NC, then moved to Jackson Co., TN. Isaac & Elizabeth, as it turns out, are not related to the family of Francis. They are my 6th g-grandparents and hail from NC.

At any rate, The family of Francis is well documented though there are errors as to all the wives & children of Francis. My husband even set up a Willoughby Resource site so that I could post all the many books, excerpts, Wills, etc. I found on this line. You may find it at www.willoughbysite.com.
This site was created for the Willoughby surname in general and not any specific line. Everything is free and downloadable as it is a sharing site.

Further, because I had spent so much time developing the Francis line, I decided to keep it in my ancestry tree to save others the legwork and to provide accurate information. The link to my Francis page is:
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/9311697/person/-798007237

For those of you who do not have an acct at ancestry, you may send me your email address and I will gladly send you an invitation to the tree. My email is wby@earthlink.net.

I'll post a basic sketch here of Francis (1613-1671), his 3 wives & children:

FAMILY #1
Mary (surname unk) & son Jonathan

FAMILY #2
Wife, Sarah Taylor, & Issue (in Birth Order):
Sarah Elizabeth, Hannah, Nehemiah, Jerrinah, & William

FAMILY #3
Wife, Margaret Locke (her maiden) Taylor
*She was married to Daniel Taylor prior to Francis
Issue: Francis, Nathaniel, Susannah

Hope this helps someone!
Sherry Baugher Bivin

From what I can find, Francis Willoughby had a son, Nehemia. Nehemia had a son, John SR. John SR had a son, John JR, and John JR had a son, Joseph Willoughby. These men are all my great grandfathers. Hope this helps, and I hope this is your Joseph.

Joseph Owens

I am not sure if her family were stone maisons and if her father was called John.
Sorry I cannot be of any more help.
Good luck with your research and if I find out that her father was a John Doyle I will let you know.

Kind regards

Sandra

Hey, Susan...was scanning some posts. You know, aunt Lucille is not far off on the date. Some put Eva's birth at 1898, some at 1890..she married Willie in 1912, so thats not far off..then Lucille was born in 1916, four years later and in Fla, not Ga. Now, when I was down there last, she spoke rather "harshly" of Willie...actually called him a "bastard". Said he would not "settle down". I guess its something we might continue to research. I'm sure there won't be any adoption papers. I'm talking to the other Willoughby's now and they "heard" the same thing, of the Cherokee experience, but they thought it was John Wilton who was indian. So the beat goes on...stay in contact..
Hi,

I saw your post about John and Mary Willoughby. Was John maybe J.D.? What really caught my eye was the name Bowyer that you listed under surnames. Cora Willoughby married Horace Hall and lived in Clinton and Warren Counties in Ohio. How she fits in I do not know. I have a death announcement for a J.D. Willoughby that was printed in greenfield in. Date of death 03/31/1893.

Far more interesting is an 1826 land grant signed by Pres J.Q. Adams and out of the Vincennes, In, land office deeding 160 acres to Stephen Bowyer. All of this, plus a pile of tintypes and so forth are contained in a box that has come to me.

There are definitely Willoughby's in the wood pile as my parents bequeathed the name on my brother as a middle name.

Dont know if this assists you at all but here it is.

Matt Engel
I too am looking for Willoughby's born in Maryland in 1790's.

Rodolphus Willoughby born 1792
Moved to Marion County, Mississippi. Served as Court Clerk, Justice of the Peace and Deputy Sheriff. He owned 1/4 of the town of Columbia, Mississippi. He wrote three letters to Govenor Pettus regarding price gouging during the War Between the States. He served the Confederate States of America as a postal carrier and gave food and clothing to soldiers. His five sons all served as soldiers. He died 26 July 1869 in Columbia, Marion County, Mississippi. I have no idea where he got the money to make such a move, or why such a well educated man would up and move to what was total wilderness. Did Condra B Clark have a second wife (other than Virgina Deloa Gage)?

I have quite a lot of Willoughby information if you are interested. By the way, does the name Mary Lardner as a wife of William Willoughby come up in any of your information?

Regards,

Boob Meiers

Does anyone have a worldwide account that might be able to find the next in line that are working with the Willoughby Last name? You can look at my family tree and see where i got stuck at. Thanks in advance.

Please disregard my very early post pertaining to the parents/lineage of Isaac Willoughby (1750-1850) & wife, Elizabeth. Research has proved that Isaac did NOT descend from the John Willoughby/Anna Chamberlain clan. I was steered wrong by info on One World Tree. There is an actual son of John Willoughby named Isaac, but he married an Abigail and is not in my direct line.
My Isaac hailed from NC, not the Northeast. We have hit a brick wall and do not know who his parents or siblings were. I can trace the line from him down, but can go no further at this point.
The only thing we know for sure about Elizabeth is that she married Isaac in Bertie Co, NC in 1892.

I will gladly send an invitation to my ancestry tree to anyone interested in seeing my research/documentation on Isaac. Simply reply with your email address.

~Sherry Bivin

My William Willoughby (Williby) was born 02/25/1737 in Monaghan Co., Ireland. He served in the Revolutionary War and his muster out papers spell it as Williby. He passed 1794 in Kittanning, Westmorland, Pennsylvania. He married Sarah Tarlington in 1759 in Clones, Monaghan, Ireland. Sarah was born 1738 in Monaghan, Ireland and passed in 1794 in Kittanning, Westmoreland,Pennsylvania. William and Sarah has seven children one of which was Robert Willoughy born 1770 in Pennsylvania. He passed Aug 1827 Seneca Co., Ohio. He married Anna Barnes. One of their sons was named Tarlington Bates Willoughby. The name Mary Lardner keeps popping up as William's wife and I was hoping someone could shed some light on this.

I think he was between 50 and 54 in 1930, on the the 1930 Census it states that they were divorced. On some Family Trees it states his name as Carl but on the documents that I have, his name is Earl.

Interesting, my grandmothers name was Blanche Chambers Willoughby. She was born in 1884 in Iowa and died in 1970 in Southern California at the age of 84, so I don't think she could be your Mom. I don't know anything about her husband, my grandfather, my Mother told me he died and she never knew him but in the 1930 Census it shows that they were divorced. If in fact they were divorced, perhaps he went on, remarried, had children, used the same name which was carried on in his family, but that is quite a stretch! His name was Earl Willoughby and they were married in Lake City, Iowa. They were married for a very short time.
Good Luck!

My grandmother married a man by the name of Earl Willoughby, her name name was Blanche Chambers. They had one daughter, my mother, my mother, Virginia Willoughby. My grandmother at the time was living in Lake City, Iowa. They were married sometime between 1920 and 1930, my mother was born in 1921 and in the 1930 census it shows that they were divorced. My Mother always told us that her father died. It is interesting that this man's name is Earl with a middle initial of C. The 1930 census shows that my grandmother and my mother and her grandfather, William Chambers all moved to Southern California. My mother is now deceased and I am trying to find out information about my grandfather on my Mother's side.
Thank You,
Suzanne

Re: Willoughby's from Gorey Co.Wexford that were stonemasons

Dear Laurence,
Thank you for your reply that would be great if we could link the families.
I have recently spoken to my uncle who still lives in Gorey and he did not think that that his William (Bill) his Grandfather was born in Gorey and lived on the road up to Gorey Hill and not in Ballycanew as I previously thought. However he did tell me that the fist records of the Willoughby’s in the Gorey area were in the mid 1600’s in Ballycanew and they may have originally come from Lincolnshire, in England but have no confirmation or evidence for this.
My mother’s cousin has done research into this family, and organised last year a Willoughby reunion in Gorey last year but unfortunately I was unable to attend, however I will contact him soon.
On the 1901 census in Ireland there appears to be 2 families in Gorey of Willoughby’s one family of farmers (my mother refers to them as the other Willoughby’s of Gorey not our relations) and the stonemasons which are our family. However I think with the close proximity there may be a link somewhere.
As I am a beginner into looking into my family history and the Willoughby’s appeared to have had large families in those days and it is quite daunting!
I will try and get to Gorey next year to see what I can find out. My mother’s sister is very involved with Christ Church C of I church so I will see what I can find out.
I would love to help you out with more information about Sarah Willoughby and maybe I can in the future.
Sandra Hutton
Oxford UK
