John Gilbert Wilmot

I am searching for the family of John Gilbert Wilmot, my great grandfather. he was born in Greenwich, CT March 7, 1843 (they have no record of him). He is buried in Darien, CT along with his first wife, Phoebe Jane Sammis. He was married twice and on each marriage certificate lists different parents, Henry & Julia Jackson on one and James & Teby (Feby?)Wilmot on another. Any info I would really appreciate. I only find two families in greenwich at that timeframe and of course they have no names on the older Census lists.

Hello Colin

Her father's name on the marriage certificate, available on Ancestry is William John Wilmot, same occupation as the census info. The Q in his name in that census looks like a transcription error, and it could be J. Her birth was registered in the June Qtr 1864 at Pancras Registration District. According to the census she was born in Kentish Town, London.

Hi All, first post to this board so please be gentle! :)

I'm working on my wife's tree and have come to a complete halt with her Great Grandmother, a Charlotte Kate Wilmot who was born in 1865 in St Pancras, London. Both parents are, unfortunately, unknown. She's in the 1881 Census as a Domestic Servant, living at 16 Greek Street, Soho, London.

Charlotte married William Tomkinson on the 24th January 1885 at St Peter Parish Church, Regent Square, Camden, Middx, and there were a total of seven children before her death in the 1st quarter of 1919, this registered at Lambeth, Greater London.

Any help would be much obliged!
Regards,
Colin Ives

I also have some info on her marriage date to Charles Wilmot.
(License # 584921 Image # 223 Phila Marriage Index) If you have any further questions, let me know. I am still looking into the maiden name of Desdemona's mother. Her father was my great-grandfather's brother.

Thanks for the info! I talked to Smoky last month. He seems to be doing well living in the middle of nowhere in North Carolina. I try to keep in contact with everyone as much as possible. Harold is in Manchester and I think Kelly, DJ and Chuck are too. Marcia is in Laconia. We actually connect a little better with Face Book. It's kind of nice.

What a coincidence. You certaily must be my brothers son and Kelly's brother, Ok this is what I know. Ada T Russell had a daughter named Lillian who married Willard Wilmot and had sons Willard, Clarence, Allen and Frederick and a daughter named Ada. Willard and Lillian had 11 children Willard and most of his children died in a Diptheria epidemic. I do know my father told me one time for a school project that I was English dutch and scottish on the Wilmot side. Do you ever hear from Smoky?

There are too many to count and not all of them are related to each other so the best I could recommend is to go to ancestry.com and search their public records. All you need to get started are your parents and grand parents names and sooner or later you will discover someone who is researching your family line. Good luck, Michael.
