Your message says that you need information on Larkin Wilson, Jr., father of Christopher Columbus Wilson. Here's what I know: - - - Larkin William James Roger Wilson was a son - most likely the oldest child - born to the union of Larkin William James Roger Wilson and Mary Jane Hansen. Larkin Sr. and an older brother, Richard Gilbert John Spencer Wilson, sons of Roger and Elizabeth Wilson who lived either in England or Wales, sailed to Jamestowne and traveled on to Oglethorpe County in Georgia. Richard settled permanently in Georgia but Larkin returned to Virginia where he won land in the Virginia lottery. His land was in Botetourt County and was near the settlement of Fincastle. It was there that he met and, about 1768, married Mary Jane, daughter of a Swedish furniture maker in a wedding that was well-attended by other settlers in the neighborhood. The bride's gown and those of her mother and sisters were shipped from Paris at the expense of a generous aunt. Larkin Jr. was born May 07, 1770. He had five brothers and three sisters. - - - In 1792, Larkin Sr., a carpenter, died from injuries he sustained when he fell from the roof of a two-story house he was helping to raze. It is said that this accident occurred in Worthville, Virginia but there is no such place in Virginia named Worthville. Botetourt County officials told me that the closest place having a similar name is Wytheville which is quite a distance southwest of Fincastle. After his death, his widow and all their children left Virginia to live in Georgia. Some postings say that Mary Hansen Wilson died in Virginia a year or two after Larkin's death, but she is listed on the Georgia Tax Index as late as 1799 as an owner of land in Oglethorpe County, and she is also listed on the 1800 Georgia Territorial Census, Oglethorpe County. - - - In 1803, Larkin Wilson, Jr. married Mary Ann "Polly" Cabaniss (not to be confused with the Mary "Polly" Cabaniss who married Tarpley Oldham). Mary Ann "Polly" Cabaniss was the daughter of George A Cabaniss (descendent of Henri Cavanis, a Huguenot from France) and the former Palatea "Pallie" Harrison, daughter of Capt. Henry Harrison of Hunting Quarter Farm in Sussex County, Virginia and granddaughter of Benjamin Harrison IV of Berkeley Plantation in Charles City County and the former Anne Carter of "Corotoman" in Lancaster County (daughter of Robert "King" Carter and Elizabeth "Betty" Landon Willis Carter). Larkin and "Polly" (Cabaniss) Wilson were the parents of 14 - perhaps 15 - children. Their son, George Jefferson "Jeff" Wilson, was my great-great-grandfather. Your forebear, Christopher Columbus Wilson, was their youngest child although a man named James Wilson has also been attritbuted to their marriage. Most records say they had 14 children, not 15. - - - About 1808, Larkin and "Polly" "removed" to Jones County, Georgia where they lived until selling out in 1825 to move 20 miles west into Monroe County where he bought 1100 acres. Larkin lived in Monroe County for the rest of his life. He died on the fourth of July in 1845 and was buried in a corner of his peach orchard. Larkin's grave - and later that of "Polly" - were unmarked but enclosed by a picket fence. Some people believe they "MAY" have been buried in the Stewart Family Burial Ground in Jones County, but that is unproven. (Their oldest child was Palatea "Pallie" Wilson who married Thomas Ware Stewart. She is still known today as Dr. Pallie Stewart - she was the first woman in Georgia to be licensed to practice medicine. She treated the wounded from both sides during the Civil War.) - - - I hope this rather lengthy message is helpful to you. Much of this information came to me indirectly from a distant Wilson cousin who - at a tremendous personal expense - hired a professional genealogist to trace the Wilson line and whose findings traced the line to William the Conqueror's chancellor who arrived in England with William in 1066.
Betty Arnold Henderson - Bradenton, Florida

Hi

My great grandparents came from Kilwinning, moved to Glasgow in the 1890s and had my grandfather. My great grandfather was a miner, and my Mum tells me she was still in touch with the relatives there up until grandad died in the 1960s. I understand we have Gillespie relatives too, although if you're not tied into my family this will probably not mean anything to you, but if nothing else it's a way to eliminate or confirm...

Best wishes

Bill

Dale,
I have a standing problem that just won't be solved.
I am looking for a marriage for:
Joseph Wilson born 23 Nov. 1783, WIndham,Rockingham Co. NH. S./o George and Janet Simpson Wilson.
I know he migrated to Orange Co. Vt. by 1807-08. So, I hope I am assuming right that he married around 1802-1803 in Windham.I base that on the fact he had a daughter Mary born 1806 while the family was still in NH.
I found Joseph living in Vermont with his son John and a record of his death in 1837. His wife NANCY E. appeard in the 1850 and 1860 census of VT. (West Fairlee) with the same son, John. While Joseph's death is recorded at the local cemetery, Nancy's isn't. I thought I could find a death record for her and at least get her father's name. However the town Clerk "doesn't have the time to look for it".
To make this long story short, All I'm aftyer is the name of Nancy's parents or at least her last name.
Hope I haven' bored you.
Thanks,
Jean E. Butler

My grandfather James Garfield Wilson born to John Wilson and Mary Stowe was said to have had a brother named Joseph who left home early.

Grandpop did marry, but to my knowledge no other siblings of my mother exist.

Would love to finally bring sense to the Wilson side. The Stowe side has been having reunions for the past 40 years.

Hope this helps..

His Sisters were

Mildred, Carrie

They all were born in Charlotte and moved to Winston Salem. From Winston Salem, Aunts Mildred and Carrie moved to Ohio. Said their other brother was up north as well.

Hi My 4g Thomas Wilson of Manfield used to sail out of Hartley port. In his children's bap certs (all born in Earsdon) he is described sometimes as Ship's master sometimes as ship owner. Do you have any background on what this latter might mean? I believe that people used take shares in ships and if the voyage was successful they would get a percentage if not, all was sometimes lost.I believe there was some relation called William.

Does the name Thomas Wilson ring abell at all please?
Re: Daniel Wilson of Horse Branch, Kentucky

I met Cansadie when I was about twelve. I think,I have a picture of her house in Horse Branch. Her sister Viola was my ggrandmother. I know very little about her as far as names, dates, etc. She was born in 1876, and died in 1966, buried in Wilson Cemetery with her husbands. I believe that she was married to two brothers named Ferris. Dad said that when she was young, she broke her back and since then, she was always stooped over. I have some information on the rest of the family, parents, etc. some pictures of siblings. Would love to exchange info.

Jeanita, I am intriqued...My Dan T. Wilson was from Horse Branch Ky, a big land owner, once worked for the Rail Road, was blind, He had a daughter named Susan Pricy Wilson, married George W. Ford.....if she was your father-in-law's mother, he was a brave man indeed...family lore says she was a witch. Are these the same Dan Wilson? My Dan was born 25 Feb. 1841 in Ohio Co. KY and died 2 June 1924 in Ohio Co. KY, buried in Wilson Family Cemetery, Horse Branch, KY.

Susana Rutha SMITH, born 30 April 1840 in KY, TN or TX;Daughter of John SMITH

Rutha, as she was called all of her adult life, is my Ggramma.
She is found on the 1860 Lavaca County, TX Census as Susan SMITH living with with James T and Malona (HALL) WILSON.
In the July 1858 Lavaca County Court of Estates, James T WILSON is appointed as guardian of "Susana Rutha SMITH, daughter of John SMITH and wife, deceased".
I believe John SMITH's wife is the sister of Malona(HALL) WILSON.
Malona HALL is the daughter of Berriman and Margaret HALL.
Berriman and Margaret appear on the 1830 Greene County and 1840 Sumpter County, AL.
It is likely that this is the same piece of property. In 1830, The Choctaw ceded this area to the USA in the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek. The HALL's lived here before this treaty was signed.
On these two census, there are two daughters that are about Malona's age.
I have been unable to find this HALL daughter on any 1850 census.
Rutha married Elijah Thomas WILSON, Malona and James nephew after he returned as a disabled CSA veteran. They were probably married in 1867 at the Salam Baptist Church In Lavaca County.
They are the owners of property adjacent to Malona on the 1870 Lavaca County census. They sold this property and bought another parcel from Elijah's father William WILSON in the 1880's but I have not found them on any 1880 census.
Any help finding this "John SMITH and wife" would help me break throught my family brick wall.
Thanks for your consideration.
Ed Antonette
