My uncle, aunt, mother and I have been trying to find out more information on their grandparents, Michael Holzman & Margaret Weigel. My Uncle was going through one of his aunts old boxes and found out that Michael's cousin, Andy Wilt, brought him over from Russia. And they settled in Kansas. On Michael's death certificate from 1943, it lists his parents as John Holzman and Barbara Welte...but now i'm thinking if Michael's cousin was Wilt, his mother's maiden name was probably Wilt.

I was just curious if anyone has any information on any Wilts from Kansas that could maybe lead me in the right direction.

thanks!

Greetings Melinda,
Greetings Melinda,

I am sorry, I do not know a Forest Robert Wilt of Springfield, Ohio. I do not believe that he is part of my Wilt family, Can you trace Forest back to Samuel Wild/Wilt of York County, PA who moved his family to Somerset CO, PA about 1800. His son was John George Wilt who moved his family to Ward Township, Athens County, Ohio. His son Jacob Wilt was born in Somerset County, PA and moved with his parents to Ward Township. Ward township was split off of Athens County and made part of Hocking County just prior to 1850. Jacob's daughter,Susan Angeline Wilt, married Jesse William White.
Please contact me direct edonwilt@aol.com.

She was the valedictorian of the class of 1935 at Fayette High School in McAlisterville, Pennsylvania, and a 1939 graduate of Geisinger Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Danville, PA.

While working as a nurse in Carlisle, PA., she socialized with army doctors at Carlisle Barracks and became intrigued by military life.
If you will go to http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_dcsearch.aspx --
under death records enter the last name Wilt and the exact date of 1892. You can view the record entry from there and save a copy to your computer. I wish I had more info to offer you, but my research is mainly centered around my husband's family, Betty Lee (Smith)Wilt's sister Leona Aster (Smith) Hays.
Also, if you enter the name Fanni A. Spring and the year 1875 under Births in Taylor County on the same website, you will find an interesting tidbit. Hope I've helped a little!

While researching branches of my son-in-law's Wilt tree, I ran across a daughter of George C (Christian) and Grace A. Wilt named Fern J. Wilt. She is shown with George and Grace in the 1910 Federal Census at age 12 in Douglas County, Nebraska, but not in the 1900 Federal Census when they were in Pennsylvania. Then she is shown married to a Herbert W. Holghaman living next door to George and Grace in the 1920 and 1930 census in Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio. Does anyone have any idea if this Fern was possibly adopted and does anyone have any idea who Herbert W. Holghaman's parents were? I can find no record of any Holghamans. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have so little information. My father-in-law was Frank Brown Wilt, Jr.; his parents were Frank Brown Wilt, Sr. married to Beulah Jenkins; his parents were listed as F. T. Wilt married to Arizona Spring. I do not have any info about them (dates, etc.). I believe she was born in 1874. Frank, Sr was born in 1893 in Davis, Tucker County, WV. By the 1900 census, his father F. T. must have died and his mother was remarried to a Alexander Price. That is about the extend of my knowledge. Thanks for any info you may have. I'm sorry I took so long to respond. I let my membership lapse. Thanks again.

Have you had any luck getting photos? I am a Wilt descendant, through Guelda Catherine Wilt who married John Craig Hunter. She was the daughter of John Thornton Wilt and Sarah Ellen Wilt (first cousins), granddaughter of Peter Wilt and Catherine. I have very few pictures of Guelda's family, and would love to share what I have and see what others have.
Hello.

George Johan George and Catherine Wilt are my g-g-g-g grandparents. While it was accepted for a long time that Catherine's surname was KLINE (KLEIN) it is more likely that her name was WARE.

I do not have any proof of this some others who have done extensive research are pretty well convinced that this is the correct surname for her.

The father of George is Niclaus WILD and his mother was Catherine Margaretha Schneider. Niclaus' parents were Johan Valentine WILD and Maria Elizabeth Abegge.

t is quite possible that Valtin/ Valentine Wilt/ Wildt arrived on the ship "The Thistle" Commander John Wilson, from Rotterdam, but last from Plymouth in Old England. Qualified the 19th day of September, 1738.

I do have some further information on the WILT/WILD line if you are in need of info.

Penny Weaver
Brookville, OH

Orpha that was possibly a Wilt from Baltimore, MD

I have a stack of postcards sent to my great grandmother, Grace Mae Wilt in Swanton, MD, and two of the postcards are signed "Orpha"...Orpha sent the messages with a return address of 1707 W. Pratt Street in Baltimore, and the postmarks are from Dec 11, 1911 and Feb 16, 1912. Since both Grace Mae and her husband Archibald were both Wilts, it seems likely that Orpha was a Wilt, but I am interested in hearing from anyone with an Orpha living in Baltimore around 1911/12 that may have had family in the Western MD, WV, PA tri-state area.

I am checking into this family at the present time and I am understanding the children you have listed for Vernon and Winifred are really Vernon's brothers and sister rather than his children. But since this is an old post and you are a very thorough researcher, you most likely know this already.

Isabella Missouri Cassetty/Cassity/Cassidy 1882-1939 is the real brick wall here. I found her obit and it mentions 3 half brothers, Dewey Metz (Lonaconing, MD), Peter Metz(Uniontown, PA) and Norman Metz (Jerome, PA). I am unsure if they are her brothers through their mother Sarah Metz, or Isabella's father - possibly a Frank Cassetty.

Isabella married Isaac Columbus Wilt of Allegany Co, MD

More PA Wilts

Looking for my husbands ancestors. Emma Wilt born in Big Mount, PA, married Eugene Myers, died 1951. She had at least 2 sisters, Amanda (never married) and Milanda Wilt Snellbaker. There may be some Gingerich's in this family tree as well, but I'm not sure.

Thanks,
Kim Neely

No, most of the family is traced to live around Pittsburg, Wilkinsburgh area. This is our first attempt to trace the Wilts. It has been a very interesting ride! If I run across anyone from Allentown I will let you know.

Thanks for the inquiry.\
Barbara Wilt
