My dad was William Thomas Wimbish. He had 7 brothers and sisters: Alma, Ray, Myrtle, Charles, Margaret, Blanche, and Joseph Mack. His father was Charles. His mother was Edna Mae Dawson. I know he had an aunt named Daisy, in fact, we visited her when I was a kid. She was about 100 years old and still hand carried water to her corn fields every day. She smoked a corncob pipe.

Hi, My name is Mary Wimbish, my dad was Joseph Mack Wimbish. He had several siblings, I remember him talking about Myrtle, Margaret, and Blanche. He was born in KY and my grandfather died in a coal mine in KY. I believe your father was my uncle, which would make you my cousin. I do not know any of my relatives on the Wimbish side, this is exciting. Please email at mkentze@yahoo.com. I am also looking for possible siblings out there. My father, Joseph Mack Wimbish, lived the majority of his life in Louisianna. Shreveport and Bossier. Myrtle and Margaret last I knew, they live in Hayward, CA. I have not had any contact with my father since he died March 23,2002. I did meet Myrtle and Margaret one time back in 1976, they came to my sister, Lyndia's graduation party in 1976 along with my dad, which at the time we lived in Fairfield, CA. So there are just the two of us. Mary Kay and Lyndia Mae. Our grandmother's name was Mae, Lyndia was named after her. Please email me!

i'm 20. Few years back, i had gone to another family reunion, and they must have done some research and pulled everything together into the booklet. And that is how I had found out that Pink Sr. had an twin and he's the son of Anthony & Mary Wimbish. And they had something in the book claiming that he had set the foundation of the tree, and it had them as his parents and siblings. I was just going by of what information that I had gathered.

Robert Luck (Pink's brother; Anthony's son) is my 2nd Great Grandfather.

I can see and do some more research of what i can see what i can find out. If i come across any information, I would tried to share it with. I hope that you can do the same.

Do you need any information that you want or needed that you think i may help with??

Good to hear from you. Out of curiosity, how old are you?

Pink Wimbish (senior) is my great-grandfather. I didn't know he had a twin. According to state records, he was a mulatto... we believe that he may have been the slave master's son, for a number of reasons, so Anthony confuses me a little bit. There is still a Wimbish farm in southern Virginia that we go to occasionally with the graves of Pink Jr.'s sisters and brothers (and perhaps mother and father, I'm not completely sure.)

I will ask around for more information for you. Good luck!

I know that there was an Wimbish-Luck. But i didn't know that there was one down in Halifax County every year. I have been to the family reunions, but not the Halifax County one. They have another one that the locations changes every year between Pennsylvania-Maryland-Virginia.

For me, I am the decendent of the Lucks (Robert Luck, son of Anthony & Mary Wimbish) I was wondering if you have any information about:

Anthony & Mary Wimbish (parents)

Cindy Wimbish Haley
Katie Wimbish
Buford Wimbish (twin)
Pink Wimbish (twin)
Tom Wimbish (sold slavery in Texas; lost track s his records since then)
Robert Luck (sold slavery in Texas; master's name)

if you have any information on any of them or the decendents of the Wimbish-Luck. anything would be helpful. and if you needed any information that you think you need just ask. we could change information if you think that we are related.

I have not been able to connect Alonzo L. Wimbish to any family with certainty. I have found an Alonzo in the 1860 census living in Dawson County GA in the Levi Clark household. Also there is Sarah Wimbish, mother and a sister. That is the closest I have come to a family for him. Please let me know what you have.
Drury Smith (b.1748) m.Martha Peyton/Martha Challis: VA>NC>TN

I am a descendant of Peyton Randolph Smith b. 1789 in Rockingham, NC, son of Drury Smith born 1748 (son of John Smith Sr, patriot of VA) and Martha Peyton. Both Drury & Martha were b. in VA, moved to Rockingham Co, NC after the Rev. war.
We (group of Smith family researchers) have recently had a mystery present itself -Drury's wife, Martha.
The name Martha Challis popped up thru another cousin, who is descended from Alexander Washington Smith & Martha C. Smith (Peyton R. Smith's dau), where the intial "C" stood for Challis in his records. (We haven't figured out the parentage for Alexander Washington Smith yet either, but it's not Peyton Randolph Smith because he says in his memoirs that he had six children, three boys and three girls and we have accounted for the three sons and their families.)
We didn't have the name Challis in our database. While searching for Martha Challis, I came across her as being a dau to Hugh Challis & Martha Wimbish of VA & Rockingham Co, NC, b: ABT 1762.
I then came across an entire tree branch that said Martha Challis m. Drury Smith and they had 2 children
Frances W. Smith, b.1794, m. Benjamin Jordan Bass
Martha "Patie" Smith, b. 1788, m. John Pinkney Bethell

Our information is that Drury Smith m. Martha Peyton Abt. 1778, that she was born Abt. 1756 in Virginia , and died Aft. 1820 in Tennessee . (Drury and Martha moved to Davidson County, Tennessee in 1807 according to their son, Peyton Randolph's memoirs.)
Children of Drury Smith & Martha Peyton-
Martha Smith, b.1779; m. John Bethell
Mariah Smith, b.1783; m. Thomas Bass
Frances Smith, b.1788; m. Benjamin Jordan Bass
Peyton Randolph Smith, b. 29 Nov 1789, Rockingham co, NC; m. Nancy. S. Bass
Lucinda Smith, b. 1792; m. Drury Smith of GA

We obviously have the same people- Drury & Martha, with the same 2 dau- Martha & Frances, who married the same 2 men- Benjamin Bass & John Bethell-
-EXCEPT that there are different birth years for Martha & Frances
Martha Smith b. 1788 vs 1779
Frances Smith b. 1794 vs 1788
-AND we have the name Martha Peyton, the others have the name Martha Challis as Drury's wife.
Also, the birth years for Martha Peyton & Martha Challis are different
Martha Peyton, b. About 1756 in VA - Martha Challis, b. AB 1762

And as far as we can tell, Drury was married only once. Our DAR information on Drury Smith lists his wife as Martha Peyton. If Drury Smith married Martha Challis as a second wife, we have no information about it.

My research puts Martha Challis (widow of Hugh & mother to Martha) and her son John Challis in Rockingham Co, NC in 1790 & 1800, at the same time our Drury Smith, born 1748, lived there.

Other problems:
Peyton Randolph Smith was supposed to be named after his mother's Peyton family; "Patie" or "Peytie" is a common nickname for Peyton in our Smith family;
In Peyton Randolph Smith's autobiography he talks about living "in a strange land" (Davidson County, TN) with his "old baptist mother"- he specifically refers to her as his mother, not step-mother;
We know Peyton Randolph Smith was b. in 1789 and, depending on which years the 2 listed sisters were actually born, he would be younger than them. So if Martha Challis had been a 2nd wife to Drury, she would most likely have been Peyton's mother as well & he wouldn't have been named after Martha Peyton's family.
Or so it seems to me anyway...

Does anyone have any information on this or any of these individuals???

Thanks!
I am beginning to study my family history. All I know is what I heard from my father, JB Wimbish that our line of the family came from SE Virginia pre-Revolutionary War. Moved to Warren Co area of NC possibly mid-1800's. Great-grandfather was Frank Wimbish from Williamsboro area of NC. Grandfather was John Wimbish from Granville Co. NC. Any info would be appreciated. There are not many Wimbishes in this part of the state so any info about the family from NE NC would probably be related to me and would be very helpful.

Thank you,
AJ Wimbish
Raleigh, NC

Do you have any additional information on James Wimbish and Sarah Hunt? I am looking for parents of Alonzo Wimbish b. 1846-47 in GA. Alonzo's death certificate says his father's name was James. I have found an Alonzo in the 1860 census, age 14, his mother is listed as Sarah Wimbish age 35, born in NC. If you are researching the same Sarah and James Wimbish maybe we can help each other.
Thanks, Carole
