If he was in uniform in 1938, then that means he would have enlisted before the US entered the war. The US didn't enter WWII until after Pearl Harbor (1941). .

The NARA WWII enlistment records are from 1938 to 1946. I couldn't find his name in that file, but perhaps he enlisted before that?

Are you sure the date of the photo was 1938?

I can't find his name in the WWII enlistment files. In fact, there are no Winborne's listed at all until after 1940.

Here's the link to the National Archives search site:
http://aad.archives.gov/aad/index.jsp

Best of luck to you!
Hello Karen,

You seem to have a wealth of information regarding the Winborne-Jenkins lineage. How would you document the connection between the Winborn and Jenkins families via (Elizabeth Winborne + Charles Jenkins)? I am new at this. I am a descendent of Gov. John Jenkins. I know Henry Jenkins was Charles' father and Gov. John Jenkins was his grandfather. I need to document how the Winborne family came into the Jenkins family via Elizabeth Winborne's marriage to Charles...who was her father/mother? Thank you so much for any help you might be able to provide. Jane

My father was John Winborne and so was his
father, who I met when I was very young and barely remember.
I do not know his wife's name but I found out that my great-great-great grandfather's last name was Savage or Surgill?
My father was in the world war II around 1938 because I have a picture of him and my mother, and he was in military
uniform. I remember that he said that he served under Patton's regiment. He is from North Carolina, and migrated
to New Jersey. I can't seem to find any records under his
military records. I have no ancestry information past my
parents. If anyone can help me please reply

I am looking for information about William Winborne and his wife Elizabeth Wen who came to Boston around 1638. They lived in Boston, Malden, and Exeter. Their son John was a minister in Manchester until leaving for North or South Carolina around 1686. William and Elizabeth were from England and I am especially interested in their backgrounds
before they came to New England. I am willing to exchange information. Thank you for reading this.

Since these books are out of print, I am looking into having them reprinted so that others can order the book. If you or anyone in your family is interested, let me know and I will let you know if we are successsful in getting the books re-printed.
I also have my grandfathers notes on the Winborne family as he did extensive research in the 1960s.

Hi Nancy
My maiden name is Winborne and I have my tree in Bexhill, Sussex England going back to William Winborn's marriage to Grace Matthews1696. My great grandfather added the 'e' at the end for his marriage to Alice Emily Medhurst in 1897 before that we were Winborn. If you or anybody else would like to compare notes please let me know.

I am looking for the parents of Neta Winborne who married George R. Morris in Wilson, North Carolina (Also known as Nash County). Neta Winborne is my great grandmother. I have quite a bit of information on the line on the Morris side but I am coming up empty on the Winborne side. There are quite a few that appear here and there in the various census' dating back to 1790 but I can only find Neta after she married George. Anyone who could help I would appreciate it and will share any information I have that could be of some help.

Thanks- Nicole

Thank you so much. Ancestry.com has that marriage as 1815, which was too soon. If it's 1851 that's about right as my Mary Eliza Winbourn Hagans was born 16 Apr 1854.

Her death certificate says she was born in Blue Springs, Jackson Co., MO, but that her parents were born in KY.
In the 1880 census for Lee's Summit, Jackson Co., MO, Mary Eliza and her husband James Franklin Hagan have a brother-in-law, Thomas Winburn age 18 b. KY, with them. This leads me to believe that Mary Eliza may have also been born in KY, but that her family moved to MO sometime before her marriage on 12 Oct 1874 in Jackson Co., MO.

Mary Eliza (Winbourn) Hagan died in St. Joseph, MO, 13 Oct 1935. She is buried in the Hagan plot at Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Her obit lists: a sister Mrs. Arch Stayton, Lee's Summit, MO; brother Jack Wimburn in OK; brother Cal Wimburn, St. Joseph, MO; a half-sister Mrs. Iva Denton in OK; and a half-sister Mrs. Myrtle Lentz, Lee's Summit, MO.

thanks for the reply. Could you tell me in which book by B. B. Winborne I should look to find the page 20 you reference? I know that he wrote the one on the Winborne family in 1905 and the one on the Vaughan family in 1909, but not sure if he did any others. I don't have a copy of the books, just the pages I photocopied when I was at the library, and I missed the information that is evidently on that page (I admit I was in a bit of a hurry). I would like to know which book to look in when I go back.

Does Bennett's Creek possibly cross the state line? I did see a reference to a Bennett's Creek in Chowan Co., but maybe that isn't the same one.

Thanks,
Karen

Re: John Winborne

Hi,
What is the source for your info on John Winborne m. Anne Hunter and father of Elizabeth m. Charles Jenkins?

I have found the Benjamin Winborne book on the Vaughan Family, and find the info in it re: Elizabeth's parentage to be somewhat confusing. On p. 78-79, he mentions "All the old Winbornes came to NC from Nansemond County, Va. John Winborne came about 1730 [to NC] and settled on the east side of Bennett's Creek and married Anne Hunter. Maj Henry Winborne, the old ancestor of the Hertford County Winbornes, came in 1742. His brother Thomas came soon thereafter, and William, Philip, John and Benjamin Winborne came to Northampton Co. NC about 1748.
Since writing the above, the writer has ascertained from old records on file in the Theological Seminary, in Fairfax County, Va. that Maj. Henry Winborne, who came to NC as a very young man in 1742 from Nansemond County, Wa., was the son of John Winborne of the Upper Parish of Nansemond, Va. and was a vestryman of the established Church of England in that Parish from 1744 to 1760, and was selected as one of the church wardens in 1748. He voted, 1746, for the rebuilding of the brick church in Suffolk [at the time in Nansemond County] which was completed in 1748. Elizabeth Winborne, the wife of Charles Jenkins, was the daughter of the old vestryman."

Now, I first read this as Elizabeth being the daughter of Henry, but, if Henry came to NC in 1742 as a very young man, he was unlikely to be either a) Elizabeth's father or b) a vestryman in Virginia from 1744 to 1760, so I then interpreted it to be that John was the father of Henry, Elizabeth and Thomas (and possibly John, Phillip, William and Benjamin as well). As for John, if the John who m. Anne Hunter came to NC in 1730, the above reasoning also applies. Therefore, I am inclined to think that Anne Hunter was the sister-in-law of Elizabeth (who m. Jenkins'), rather than her mother.

Would appreciate your take on this.
Karen Dutton
