Don Nester was born "Norman Hobbs" in 1892 and was sent to live with Nester family. We don't know where the name Don came from as most of the family refered to him as "Uncle Bud". My grandmother Ora Hobbs was his oldest sister. My aunt is the oldest living relative we have now and her knowledge consists mostly of stories passed down by her mother, aunts and cousins. Uncle Bud had passed away by the time she was born. I do have a good bit of information on the family and will be happy to share.

Shawna

************

Not much else to find on internet.
I am looking for the parents and other ancestors of David R. Wyne, born about 1821 in Ohio. He married Catharine Hysell McKnight January 20, 1848 in Meigs County, Ohio and he lived there until his death in 1888. His marriage record shows his last name as Wyne, but throughout the census records it is spelled Wine or Wines. Does anyone have information that can help me fill in the blanks?

I am looking for any information on Bertha May Wine, born in Ohio October 1873 and died in 1901. I believe she died in childbirth, but not sure. I cannot find any info on her parents and hope someone can help fill in the blanks. She married John Milton Hobbs in 1890 and had five children: Ora Belle, Norman, Ina Grace, Hector, and Freida (my grandmother). I'm not sure of the name of the baby she had when she died, but I think his name may be Donald Nester. I'm guessing he was adopted as was my grandmother after Bertha May died. She was only two years old at the most. I'm hoping to hear from someone as I have hit a dead end.

It was documented in one of the Braxton County, WV books.
sounds like we have more Wine families in that area than we have accounted for.
Guess i'll keep on looking, someone is going to find more info on my Benjamin's family.
does anyone have a connection between this line of Christian and George Wine, father of Benjamin Wine of Braxton Co., WV. Benjamin was born abt 1811-13. Benjamin's son, George Perry Wine is my great grandfather. I'm trying to make a connection between the Wine families of Braxton Co and those that were in Shenandoah, Va. in the Michael Wine family line.
I know Michael had a brother who "went west" but I have not found out anything of him. The only Wine book I have is Wine Family 1952 by Higginson, and the brother is not really mentioned in this book. I do not have any other publications on the Wine families of Va and Braxton Co., WV

Any info is most appreciated

thank you
Leroy Wine (from Woodville, Missouri on the Randolph/Macon County Lines) was my great-great-great-grandfather. His daughter Sarah Jane Wine Cox was from his 1st marriage to Caroline Mustain (or Mustean) who died while they were in Kentucky. He then married Lousia Cox who was a sister to Levi Cox. Sarah Jane Wine married Levi Cox's son, Moses Allen Cox, who was first married to Elizabeth Wade. After Elizabeth died Levi married Lucinda Wine, whom I believe was Leroy's sister.
Mary Ann Wine (1810 VA-1853 IN)

I am looking for any information regarding Mary Ann “Polly” Wine born in Virginia February 9, 1810. I do not know her parents or location of birth within Virginia. Mary Ann died on December 22, 1853 in Montgomery or Cass Co., Indiana and is buried in Potts Cemetery, Wayne Twp., Montgomery Co., Indiana. She married Benjamin Johnson in Virginia most likely on January 22, 1828 in Chesterfield Co., Virginia. Benjamin Johnson and Mary Ann Wine had two children in Virginia and then moved to Montgomery Co., Indiana about 1831. They had one additional child in Indiana, but Benjamin Johnson died before 1835. Mary Ann Wine Johnson married Joseph Shipman (1807 OH, 1864 TN) on February 11, 1835 in Montgomery Co., Indiana. They lived in Montgomery and Cass Counties of Indiana before Mary Ann Wine Johnson Shipman died on December 22, 1853. She had nine children with Joseph Shipman. After the death of Mary Ann, Joseph moved to Iowa, remarried, and then joined the Union Army at age 55 and died two years later.

I would greatly appreciate any information regarding Mary Ann’s parents, location of birth or other leads or suggestions you might have. You can email Marvin Ogburn at hijlo@aol.com or you can write me at 2525 Fridleys Gap Rd, Harrisonburg, VA 22802. Thanks for your Help!
I'm having trouble posting this last comment, so if it goes up twice, please forgive me.

There are WV birth, death, and marriage records at this site:

http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_select.aspx

Not all of course, but there is a guide to tell you what is available. That is where I looked up the birth, marriage, and death of some of your query names.

If Cora is the ill. daughter of Phebe, then perhaps the Robert Wine who gives the information on Audrey's marriage license is the Robert Clay Wine born to Phebe with William Perkins -- Audrey's uncle.

ok, here goes the worms.....maybe

My story is that Cora, who married Asa Williams in 1900, when Audrey was 7 yrs old, was the illigitimate daughter of Phebe Wine, who appears in the Braxton Co census with her parents, Benjamin and Nancy Wine.

If you check the census, you will find that there are several illigitimate children listed as his grandchildren, living with he and Nancy in the census of Braxton Co.,

I would venture to say that perhaps Cora Jane was not married at the time Audrey was born.
Benjamin and Nancy's son, George Perry Wine is my relative and several cousins have exchanged information about these children listed in the census. I hope this helps
Audrey Wine, born May 1893, age 7, is listed as the daughter of Cora Wine, age 22. I haven't found a Cora in my data. I also cannot find a Jessie in Braxton or closeby who fits the Jessie who married Newton in Braxton -- sorry -- I don't think that Audrey and Jessie are sisters, though, but I haven't proven it!

The Jessie Wine who marries Newton Hess was born Aug 5, 1894, according to her death record. There is a 20 year old Jessie Wine who is a servant in a household in 1910.
The Jessie wine who marries Newton Hess in 1913 is also born in 1894. Robert Lee Wine in my database has a son in 1910 named Jessie Lee Wine--he has no daughter named Audrey, though she was born in 1893, or daughter named Jessie in the household in 1910. Now that I see their birthdates were before 1900, I will check that census.

Audrey and Hughie's marriage record gives no Wine parents' names, but Jessie Wine and Newton Hess's MR lists Robert Wine as informant. I have a Robert Wine in Braxton County with a Jessie Lee Wine born @ 1902, but I have Jessie listed as a son who marries Golda Bulah Posey in 1924. I found Jessie G Wine's DR, too, in 1941, but it only lists Wine as the father's name and no mother's name. Newton is still alive when she dies, and the only death record I can find for a Newton Hess is for an 83 yr old widower who dies in 1930 -- before Jessie. I have another Jessie Wine in my database, also male -- Jessie Jackson Wine, b 1884, son of John Nelson Wine and Isabelle Bragg. Robert Wine would be the nephew of Jessie Jackson Wine. I am wondering if my Jessie Lee is actually a female and if Jessie Jackson Wine married Golda in 1924. I have two marriages for Jessie Jackson Wine - one in 1909 and one in 1920. If it is that Jessie who marries Golda, then perhaps Robert's Jessie Lee Wine in my files is actually a daughter and she is the one who marries Newton Hess. I'm headed to the census to see if I can discover an error in my records --

Wine familytreemakerDNA testing

So we can try to connect our families in what is now, WV to the original Virginia Wine families we are trying the DNA testing.
The oldest Wine we have record, George, married Rebecca Williams in Greenbrier Co in 1811.
We do not know exactly where George started out, we do know, by census information that he was born cir 1771-1777 in Va.
That is about all we know.
I am looking for ONE Wine male family member from an established line with Michael Wine in Shenandoah or any other proven Wine line, that would participate in the DNA testing with the ftmDNA project site, I would gladly pay for the testing kit.
This would help so much in figuring out which line we belong to once and for all. PLEASE, if you have not already considered doing this to help so many researching these lines and are hitting brick walls, maybe the incentive that you don't have to pay, will help.
If you are interested, please email me with your established lineage and how far back. I'm only interested in documented lineage, not family stories....that's what has built our brick wall...lol
thank you for any help
erickson@mosquitonet.com

Any assistance you can give would be well received.
We know Catherine is listed in census as head of household in Faquier. We think she was married to a Thomas but that is a guess. Sons Samuel Burrell(Burwell) and Elias came to Warren Co. Our lineage comes through Burrel but we would liike to pick up with Catherine and go back to complete our geneology. I am sure Catherine's maiden name was not Wines, thus the dilemma.
Thanks for your research
Rev Peg Mitchell
for Ronald Lee Wines

Hi, and thank you so much for responding.
We need male volunteers for the DNA testing that are related to the Michael Wine line in Virginia or males that are out of the Rockingham Co, Va line in the late 1700's-mid 1800's.
The cost of the DNA testing depending on how many markers you are tested for can vary around 180 to 300 for the full markers of father and mother.
If anyone is willing to do the testing and submit the results to the Wine DNA posting site, I will gladly help with the cost of the DNA testing. There are several of us who are researching the Wine families that settled in the Braxton Co, WV area and they were there in the early to mid 1800's but, we are not positive which line they come out of in Virginia.
IF any Wine family member out there is interested in doing this testing I would like to know. AND if there are some computer "geeks" out there who would even be willing to help set up the DNA testing site for WINE families, please, please would love to have your help with this. Neither myself or a few others who are interested, seriously, in this are really equipped to handle this we are just too new at computers to step up without some serious help.
thanks, and again, thank you for the response....
the women do not pass on the male DNA genetic pattern, however, they do pass along their mothers...and there also is a test to do the maternal line if anyone is interested.
Jerry, has any of your line done the DNA testing. Since you are out of the Rockingham Com, Va. line, we are trying to establish which line we connect to.
The farthest back I can go is Greenbrier Co, Va. for a marriage between George Wine and Rebecca Williams in July, 1811.
Since there is 20 years difference in their ages, i'm assuming it was not his first marriage. He was near 40 and she 19.
Our only help now is to try to connect to the Michael Wine line in Shenandoah or the Rockingham Co line. I am searching for folks who may be interested in doing the DNA testing to check markers and see who is connected to who.
Sorry but this is not my Anna Sealock. My Anna would have been much older as she was born about 1853. Also there is no Downing that I have ever heard of in my line.
Thanks for the reply

Thank you for your reply, however, I don't think this is the Anna Sealock I am looking for. I too have seen the information you refer to but it doesn't match what I have gathered so far.
My Anna Sealock, b. 1852/53 VA.,was listed in the 1930 census in Hagerstown, MD, as the mother of James Luther Wine b. 1879 Fauquier Co., VA. She was also listed as his nearest relative and lived at the same addressas him when he registered for the draft in Sept. 1918.
I don't know if her maiden name was Wine and she gave birth out of wedlock or if she had been married to a Wine and was widowed. I do know that she was listed as a widow in the 1930 census.
Anna's grandson James William Wine always said that she was full blooded Cherokee but I don't know that to be a fact. He always said that she was called Anna-One-Who-Waits and that may have been just a good story he told.
Prior to the draft registration I have been unable to find any other records pertaining to James Luther Wine or Anna Sealock. I've been trying to trace my Wine line and have run into a brick wall but will keep searching. If you run aross anything about these two I would appreciate a note from you.
Thanks for your interest.

Wine of Fauquier, Va. and Hagerstown, Md.

Looking for information about James Luther Wine, born in Fauquier Co. VA abt. 1879, father unknown, mother Anna Selock/Sealock (married twice?) widowed, born abt 1853 in VA. James Luther married Anne/Annie Goshenour/Gouchnour and they were in Hagerstown, Md. when their children were born (Lelia Caroline 1921, James William 1923, Pollyanna 1925). Annie died sometime between 1925 and 1930 when census records show Anna Selock/Sealock age 77 was living with James and children. The WWI draft registration for James Luther Wine is signed with his mark (he could not read and write) and his mother (Anna Sealock) was listed as next of kin. I presume he was not married at that time but they did live in Hagerstown, Md. I don't know when they relocated to Md. from Va. nor do I know the date of or where his marriage took place. I have checked other census records but with no success. I do not know the name of James's father. I would appreciate any help with names, dates, relationships, and locations for this family.
