Thanks for your reply, but I think we have different Milly Winkfields here. My Milly was related to the Parsons and from Gonzales County. it does not appear that she ever lived anywhere else in Texas.

Again, thanks for your reply.

Well, turns out that Wink, Win, Wingfield are all of the same descent. We are apart of the Maria Wingfields clan that was the ruler (albeit) horrible leader of Jamestown. Ergo the name changes. There are scattered Winkfields all over Georgia just not sure how they got there. Even in Wilkes they are spread pretty far apart.

Hello, Hello, Hello!!! I was so glad to see you write what I am thinking. That is, Winkfield, may be Wingfield. In looking at British records there are many Wingfields but I don't see Winkfields. Maybe I am not looking in the right places. It seems to me that in the early American records, the name was written both ways. I have seen that a Bryant Winkfield was the father of Elizabeth Winkfield Shropshire Stonehouse, but I haven't seen a document that shows that to be true. In fact, I have never seen a document of Bryant Winkfield. If you know of one, please let me know. I would love to see it. Good luck on your search for family members. Maybe there is a Winkfield/Wingfield DNA group at familytreedna.com If there is one maybe that could help you out. Good luck, Jan

Hello... I am descended from St John Shropshire by his daughter, Elizabeth, and possibly his first wife plus I also descended from St John Shropshire and his wife, Elizabeth Winkfield Shropshire, by their son, Winkfield. I guess I am doubly blessed... Since St John Shropshire's Estate Papers stated that Elizabeth was his only daughter and later she was not named as an heir of Elizabeth Winkfield Shropshire, so I surmise that St John Shropshire may have had two wives... Do you know where Bryant Winkfield's estate records are located? Many thanks for any assistance you can give me. Jan

Trying to connect the dots. Looking for information on one named George Wingfield and Orrie Wingfield. According to the 1900 Census he was born around 1840. He is listed again in the 1920 census as a widow.

I'm assuming George Wingfield is the father of Preston Winkfield. Preston Winkfield was born in Wilkes County and died in Ohio in 1976. Preston's death certificate list father as George Winkfield and mother as Orrie Walton.
I am trying to find descendants of David Winkfield possibly of Maryland or Virginia. He married a Susan Besore about 1842.

In the 1850 census he is living in Franklin County, PA with his father-in-law, David Besore. I have only found 2 sons for sure, a Jacob (married Anna Belle Acker) and a George (married Hannah Chronister), both born in Pennsylvania. Jacob & George may have had a sister named Katie who married a George Washington Pentz in Pennsylvania and one named Christiana who married a Jacob or David Carbaugh.

Family folklore says he owned a plantation (and slaves) in Virginia and that he breed and raced Trotting Horses. He supposedly enlisted in the Civil War for the South, but I can find no support for this. Supposedly some of his freed slaves moved to Ohio after the Civil War.

Is anyone out there related to this family? Please contact me at digginupmypast@gmail.com

My Winkfield relatives are from England. Elizabeth Winkfield married Saint John Shropshire. She was born 1663 and died December 1, 1742. Her father was Bryant Winkfield. She had a son named Winkfield Shropshire. Saint John and Elizabeth came to America before 1694 to Gloucester Co. Va. Then moved to Westmoreland Co. Va. He was a prominent cleryman in the Anglican church. He graduated from Oxford and was ordained in Winchester Cathedral. I know that this info is probably a long way off from where you are starting but you may want to keep it on file. It may be helpful in the future.

Cumberland Co. 1830 Census as Winkfield Price, with a wife and one child under age 5. This is believed to be Rachel C. Price, b. abt. 1828, who married Josiah Lewallen and Lived in Lumberton, Burlington Co., N.J. in 1870. Wingfield (Winkfield) signs his name as Winfield C. Price in his will.

My new e-mail address is lekappa2@aol.com, which is at home.

I have been out of commission for awhile; due to person difficulties and career changes. But I am now back in the search. This summer, however, I was able to verify my mother, her mother and her father. I was able to find my grandparents marriage certificates.Respectfully, their names are Rhuenell Winkfield(mother), Henry Winkfield and Fanny Winkfield(my grandparents).

What I learned is that my grandparents lived and got married in Bennettsville, South Carolina. My grandparents moved to Laurenburg,North Carolina. My grandfather migrated to Baltimore, Maryland(and died there at about 1976) and my grandmother died in Laurinburg in about 1956.

I now seek information about my great-grandfather; whose name I believe was ambrose Winkfield. I believe he was probably born a slave; but I do not know where.I believe . I will figure this out, too.

Thanks for noting my efforts.

Mr. Winkfield:

While I am not a Winkfield, I bear the surname of you and everyone on this board.

I have browsed through the postings and have been quite impressed with your efforts to create a Winkfield community of sorts. It struck me that, while my first name is unusual, I have had a benefit that you and others have not taken for granted. I have always felt unique and part of a larger family story. I am a Jr.. My father is a Sr., And my father was named after his uncle. So, Winkfield has always been very much an old, traditional name within the Twyman family line. Of course, I named my son WInkfield III. I trust he will carry on the tradition and name his son, my grandson, Winkfield IV as well.

My greatgrandfather, Scott Twyman (married to a Terrill), lived in Orange County, VA around the turn of the last century. Who knows why Scott and his wife named a son Winkfield (my great-uncle) but they did and we have recycled that name
through the generations.

I have to go now but I wanted to connect and compliment your efforts thus far.

Winkfield

A very touching and moving e-mail.

I wish I could help but Winkfield is just my first name.
I named my son Winkfield Franklin Twyman, III.
My father's name is Winkfield Fanklin Twyman, Sr.
His uncle's name was Winkfield Twyman.
Beyond my greatuncle, I have no clue as to the origins of the name.

I could speculate: Jimmy Winkfield, The Winkfield, Winkfield (the town) close to Windsor in England. But these would be groundless speculations. I wish you all the best.

P.S., I am working on my 5 year old now so that we will have Winkfield IV down the road.

You indicate that you were born in Columbus Ohio. I live in Columbus,Ohio. Prehaps we can get together to share our hard research results. I believe we are related; i.e. those who carry the Winkfield surname.

I ran across a recent message on one of the message board that said that all Winkfields are probably derived from Wingfiel ; and they all come from England and Ireland. The message board said they also had slaves. This makes sense to me; but we first have to put our commonality together first.

Let's talk.

Dear Mother:

I am a 52 year old father. I have been married to the same woman for 26 years. I have a 17 year old daughter, who is a 3.986 GPA high school graduating senior. Her mother is 26 year Phd. and I am a 25 year practing attorney(J.D.).

I had no idea that the writer of one of the FamilyHistory.com message board was a minor. I do believe that you should exercise more parental control over your son's use of the computer and/or make sure that he is not doing things on the computer that you do not want him to do.

If you have checked the message board, you will see that I am the most prolific writer on the message board. I attempt to reply to every message that I believe is remotely related to and/or helpful to my mission. I also have a Website @ MyFamilyTree.Com. It tells my entire story and my quest.

Good Luck to you and your family.
winkfield histories

In all probability your surname is a derivative of the name WINGFIELD. There are 3 major branches of this family stemming from London, England and Ireland (for the most part). It was not uncommon for the name to be spelled phonetically rather than with a "g". There is an abundance of information available through the Wingfield Family Society organization. You can find their website at www.wingfield.org
The Wingfield family is among the earliest settlers. It was common for these families to own and maintain slaves. There were occassions (probably many) of mulatto offspring and /or slaves that adopted the family name.
Good luck on your search.

My e-mail is annaqc@cs.com, if it would be easier to communicate that way. Some of the sights are: http://www.throughbredchampions.com/archives/bljock.htm
Have you tried chruchilldowns.com- and searching for history?
www.kcn.ru/tat_en/university/ahern/493/mod2.htm

If you don't have luck with that tell me I've got more. and I live in western nc if there's anything I could do to help I would like to be included in that. I know I'm not a winkfield but I am really getting into this. Please let me know about your progress.

PS My project is due in about three weeks.
