Re: Lee Winnie

Original Post
"My grandfathers name was Lee Winnie he was born in 1907 in Bledsoe Co.Tennessee.He married Ola Mackie of Putham Co. Tennessee in 1934.Lee,s fathers name was Harry Winnie birthdate unknown but died in 1964. He was killed in a mine explosion.Harrys fathers name was John Winnie who born in 1830 he married Elizabeth Green she had her name changed to Bruce so by grandfather Lee said.To this family was born 7 children Harry Winnie who married Martha Jordan, Louis Winnie whos tomerock says Louis Winney Co.B.86th N.Y.Inf. He is buried in Bledsoe Co.Tn. Sam Winnie, Jim Winnie,Belle Winnie, who married a Thurman.Dasiy Winnie who married a Roberts, and John Winnie Jr.who married a Tinnie Jordan"

I am related to John Franklin Winnie. He is my Great Grandfather. He did marry a Tinnie, also known as Tennie. but her name was Tennessee Virgina Mathis, not Jordan. The Jordan last name was her Mothers Maiden name. Harry was actually Johns brother, not his son. It was my understanding that Harry did not actually die in the mine explosion that happened when he was 24. But he did die blind with one arm. A cousin a generation above told me this.

Lee is Harry's son. Less brothers and sisters should be Bell, Daisy, John (not the john that married Tennie because that john was born in 1888 and Harry was born in 1880) So, he had a son named John.. just not the one that married Tennie. Also other kids are Lewis, Samuel and Avery. and there is a Nannie Robert and Velvie listed too.. but I am not sure if they are his kids. Harry's father should be John M. Winne b 8 Jan 1851 (not 1830) in his late years he started using the name cange to Winnie on paperwork. A few of them also used Winney.

Also Harry was born 25 July 1880 died Sep 1965 in Bledsoe. If you need any help straightening it out.. Lemme know :) All the names you had are right.. they are just in a jumbled order :)

I was taken from my parents when I was young.I met up with Robert Winnie my father when I was 22. We never did have a close relationship, but I am sorry to hear he died. I am trying to find my sister Karen Sue Winnie. She was adopted in I think 1962. I have not had very good luck trying to find her. She was adopted out of Ingham County Lansing, MI. Of course, you know, Michigan is a closed adoption state and now that my parents are both gone I am the oldest of our immediate family and I don't know how to go about finding her. This is my life long dream to find my sister. Maybe someone could help. She was born at Sparrow Hospital August 3rd of 1956. Our mother's name was Edna Zimmerman. And of course Dad's name Robert Harland Winnie. If someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it Thanx

I have found a few records on Wilson Harland Winnie . The first is his birth record i have found in Clinton co. Mi.It reads ,Childs name - Wilson Harland Winnie . Date of birth -May 23 1899. Birthplace - Eagle, Clinton co Mi. Mother - Mame McCrume. State of Birth -Michigan . County of Residence - Clinton . State of residence - Michigan . Father of child - Clarence Winnie. State of Birth -Michigan
Next is the Death for Wilson Harland Winnie. Place of death - Ingham co. Date of death -Sept. 12 1967. Date of birth -may 23 1899. Father -Clarence Winnie. Name of Wife -Alice . More info on record .
Now his mother went by Mame,Mary or Mae.There is alot of different story's about Mame being adopted by her aunt.
One of the story's was Mame's mother's name was Mary and her father was Henry. So after Mary gave birth to Mame she died while out chopping wood. Henry made her go out in the cold to cut wood for the wood stove where he later found her dead . Henry took baby Mame and throw her into a pile off cow poo. The neighbor ,who was related to Mary ,took baby Mame to Mary's sister Louis McCrumb. So Louis raised her.
I read that Mary Wilkinson (Mame's mother ) is decended from Cheif Okemos . She was decended from on of his Princess.
I have a marriage record of Clarence H. Winnie and May McCrumb.Date of Marriage -June 17 1898 .Place -Eagle Michigan.Birthplace of groom- Sherman city,Mi.. Birthplace of Bride -Clinton co. mi.Name of parents of groom-Charles Winnie, Clara J. Roe.. Parents of the bride - A.J. McCrumb, Eliza Wilkinson..
The last thing i have is a marriage for Mary Ann Wilkinson and Henry Barber ( suppose to be parents of Mame).Date of Marriage -Jan 22 1878 .Place -Eagle ,Mi,,
I found where Mary Wilkinson is buried on her stone it say's that she died 4 days after Mame was born . She is buried in Eagle clinton co,Mi.

Winnies from Scotland in New York and PA

My great grandfather immigrated to the US in 1907 from Newarhill (in Lanarkshire) Scotland and eventually settled in KS. He had many brothers and sisters some of which immigrated at a later date, around 1922 and 1923. I have seen some ship manifests with John Winnie and James Winnie (nephews of my g-grandfather) that gave their destination as PA, but show up in the 1930 Census in NY. They were all coal miners in Scotland.

So with that brief background, I'm looking for relatives of these Winnies from Scotland. All of them lived near Motherwell, Scotland. Some places are Newarthill, Mossend, Cambusnethan, Holytown and Cleland. Sometime around 1890 to 1900, many of my relatives changed their surname to Winnie from Guighan (or Gueghan). I'm trying to see if anyone that is related may have heard a story relating to the name change.

I'm researching Hiram Winney,(1866-1926) who built and owned Hotel Despatch. His wife was Lillie Trost. His father William owned the Penfield Hotel and his father was named Peter and came to Penfield in the 1830's. Peter died in 1853. I have conflicting information on him. I'd appreciate any help.

Thank you. It certainly adds to the probability that Joshua and Lewis were closely related, besides their being on the same census page in 1850. I've done a little poking around with the extensive Pieter Winne (bap. 1609) family in New York, but haven't found the connection to Lewis or Joshua. But the genealogy is huge and many branched!
