Still looking for Natahaniel's parents. His daughter Mehitable listed him as a clergyman. That's the only new thing I've found. Some list John and Elizabeth French Winslow but I'm not sure their Natahaniel is ours. Hopefully someone has the tie in info. Elizabeth Williams was born in Rockingham N.H and John and Elizabeth French Winslow were from that area. There's got to be something somewhere.
Thanks I have not done that. Seeing Essex Essex County NY was in a grand daughter's hand written notes.....My brain after re reading all the posts and the Chamberlin info.....wonder due to the fact 'he was very secretive about his early life' and about everything which then his wife too took to another level per family 'verbal history'. My mind says sooo did he change his parents names in his marriage info....Thanks for the scoop.

FIRST:  He WAS NOT born in 1821 BUT March 15, 1837 in NY;

2nd: Probably NEVER was a Captain but a CARPENTER or MECHANIC

3rd: Name was either John ABRAHAM Winslow or ABRAHAM John Winslow

4th: He is indexed as Alorum Winslow in his Wisconsin Marriage registration but looking at this it could be Abram short of course for Abraham.

Death and Burial in South Dakota indexes finds him as Abraham John and the other John Abraham. He is buried in Centerville, SD Turner County in the Riverview Cemetery but a search for his grave in July 2011 was unsuccessful. His lot number is 147.

First census I find him in is 1880:
A. John 40 years old born NY folks in Vermont: he is in Nebraska

1900: John Winslow B: March 1837 NY folks NY: he is in Nebraska, Boyd County; Bristow Princinct

1910: John A. Winslow 75 born in NY Folks NY: Missouri, Polaski County in Tavern.

1920: John Winslow at 87 born in NY; Folks NY in Centerville, SD.

D: April 12, 1924 in Centerville at 90 years 27 days.

NOW MARRIAGE CERT:

Father is ROSWELL WINSLOW and Mother is PHEBE WINSLOW. One has to wonder about Phoebe Winslow born about 1813 in NY married to ROSEWELL Chamberlin B: NY. Such a mystery similar names.......

Would the REAL John or Abraham Please stand up with his correct SURNAME ?????

Ken,

Boy is my reply belated! My e-mail address changed between the time I posted the original post and you posted your reply. Based on your reply below, are you from the Winslow line of Eliza Ann Winslow and Stephen L. Damon? I have done some research on this line. I would be very interested in comparing research. I am still trying to find Elisha's parents.

Marc

Hello,

I have had a ton of success in tracing my family name. Currently I am stuck looking for more information on a Gehmarek Winslow.

I am not sure of the spelling on the first name. Here is what I know.

I know he married a Marjorie Harkens. I only know of one son they had, he was Robert N Winslow. I belive they were in New York. Any information would be fantastic.
The two apparent births in the same year would in fact have been in successive year because the year started in March.
Therefore April 1698 would have been before March 1698/99.

There is also a marriage of William Winslow to a Mary Low in 1748 which would fit with the baptism dates of the children.

I also think that John Winslow, b 1784 may have first been married to Elizabeth Blagg at Clerkenwell in 1806, and then to Elizabeth Winter in 1830.

Open to argument
Kind regards

Barbara
Robin, I am interested in your Winslow family tree whether it happens to have any Adams members. I have a Calvin Winslow Adams born June 15, 1806 in New York State, believed to be near Albany. His father was a John Quincy Adams. Calvin had 3 siblings that I know about : James born Dec. 1, 1801, William, born abt. 1800 and Reuben born abt. 1808. John Quincy Adams bought Crown land in Elgin County, Ontario Canada in 1835 but I don't know whether he ever came to Canada to live. His 4 sons all came to property purchased by their father sometime in the 1830's. They are buried in Aylmer, Malahide Township, Elgin County, Canada. John Quincy Adams died sometime prior to March 1863 because that is when the land was inherited by the sons. I can find no trace of John Quincy Adams in Ontario, Can. or in New York State.
sj.graves@yahoo.ca

This is just a shot in the dark.My4th great grandfather Nathaniel Winslow married to Elizabeth "Betsey" Williams were living in Phillips (Madrid) Maine . He was born in N.H. in abt. 1775. Their 9 children were born in Madrid, Ma. His son Stephen and wife Nancy Howard later moved with many Winslows and Howards to Monroe, Wisc., then Friend Neb. and finally to Pine Flat, Ca. There was an oral history that mentions a large family reunion in Maine for the Winslows, Howards, and Cushings in early 1800's. We seem to be at a wall with Nathaniel's parents. The line is supposed to tie to the Mayflower Winslows but I'm leaning toward John Winslow of the "Fortune" who came a year later. He was one of 5 Winslow brothers. Any ideas?
