Libbeus Winsworth, Northants England

I have located a marriage record for Libbeus Winsworth and Sarah Norris, both of Little/Great Harrowden England. They were married by banns Oct 5 1738 in Little/Great Harrowden, Northants England. Known children were William, bapt Apr 28 1745, John bapt Oct 22 1749, Samuel bapt Apr 5 1752, Elizabeth bapt Jan 4 1756 and buried May 8 1755, and Elizabeth bapt Jan 19 1758.

I believe that this Libbeus Winsworth's son William is my ancestor. Only problem is the surname - William's surname was Winsall, Winsor/Windsor. However, he named his own sone Libbeus (plus there is yet another Libbeus further down the lines), and there is another Samuel in the line as well.

The surname Winsor had morphed from Windsor, Windsall, Winsall, depending on which church parish registers you were looking in, in Northants England.

This marriage of Libbeus and Sarah is a new discovery for me, so I am still trying to get more details.

If anyone thinks they have a connection, I'd like to hear from you.

Colleen LIll

Hi,

Can't recall if I replied to your post or not! Until recently I had an extra copy of DWW, however I gave it to my niece.

Occasionally I take my copy to Staples and have them make several copies as I receive emails like yours now and then. If you are interested, I can make arrangements for copies to be made and you can reimburse me. In the past the copy is usually about $22, then add $15 for mailing costs from Canada. These prices are approximate.

I would be interested in sharing Winsor family information with you. Albert is one of the few Winsor siblings that I don't have much information about. I don't have any photos of him or any of his family, the only thing I have is his signature from a land document from Alberta. Would you have any old photos that you could share? I also have photos of his parents and grandparents. I also have alot of new (and verified) information that isn't in the DWW book, due to my own research.

Hope to hear from you soon!

regards,

Colleen Lill
Alberta Canada

ps - Henry Neal Winsor (Albert's older brother) was my ggrandfather.
THANK YOU for your thoughts. Any present day Winsors (no"d" in Duxbury Winsors) that I have met were utterly charming. I used to tell my mother that the Howett girls stowed away and the Winsors were gentlemen so they married them.
According to Richard Howetts will there were other children left in NC and also his wife was to see that children of certain slaves were to be educated by his wife then when they were old enough they could be sold. very sad tho't.
Ann Noyes

I am looking for a Winzor from Upperville, VA. Its my mother's maiden name. I was born in Staunton, VA. From what I can ascertain, the name primarily used in that area is Windsor and/or Winsor and this is "horse" country. Would imagine that my grandfather took the name of the family that he was with. His first name was Frank. We have some family in Leesburg and all of that surrounding area.

I am hoping to find a photograph of Caleb Winsor Jr. of Guilford NY. He was born to Charlotte Aldrich and Caleb Winsor Sr. about 1824. He married but had no children when he was killed in the explosion of the steamboat Jenny Lind. Digital copies of his photo would be of interest to both the Guilford Historical Society and also for a small historic display in a conference room named for the Jenny Lind.

If you have any likenesses of him, Maria, or anyone before Horatio, I would be very interested.
I am researching Thomas Winsor husband to Margaret Murphy. I believe thier son's name was Isaac. If you have any information that could help me on this I'd greatly appreciate it. My Great grandmother was Miriam Churchill Winsor, she married Frank H. Vollmer, if that helps. Thanks in advance.
Jennifer Sear

Hi
My name is Naomi Winsor, I am using my Mum's profile to message as we are researching together.

I'm sorry to disapoint, but the royal family changed their name from Batternburg to Windsor during I think the first world war because they did not want to be seen as German when we were fighting the Germans. Your family had the name long before the royals adopted it.

Our Winsors are from Penkridge, Staffordshire, England and ony a couple of generations ago the name was actually Wincer. You will probably find that your Winsors were not originaly Windsors either.

It is so nice to read your posts and see you finding other people tracing your family. I, so far have not found anyone on here. The furthest back I have got is Thomas Wincer (1785- 1854) married to Elizabeth Hadley (1786- 1840)

If anyone traces their family back to England I would be very interested as we may share a common ancestor.

Good luck with your research,

Regards
Naomi

Is anyone familiar with Erwin Winsor? He served in Wisconsin as a Freewill Baptist minister. I am President of the Wisconsin Freewill Baptist Historical Society and am trying to find descendants of deceased ministers, like I am, in the hopes of learning more about these people as well as possible orchestrating a “reunion” of the descendants of these ministers in 2008. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

I'm sure you've checked already, but just in case -

There's only 11 results returned from the LDS Family search web site at http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Home/Welcome/welcome.asp for a search for Edith M Winser b 1877 +/- 2 yrs, 2 in US 1880 census. 7 in 1881 England & Wales Census and 2 IGI entries.

1880 US Census:
Edeth Winsor age 1 born [1879] NY
Census Place: New Lisbon, Otsego, New York;

Edith Winsor b [1875] Massachusetts: Census Place: Northborough, Worcester, Massachusetts.

From the 7 in the 1881 England & Wales Census the best fit is:

Edith M Windsor age 2 born [1879] New Brighton Cheshire. Census Place: Liscard, Cheshire, England.

She's also the only Edith May Windsor [any soundex variant] with a TRANSCRIBED birth registered between 1860 and 1885 on the FreeBMD web site.

Edith May Windsor, Dec Qtr 1878, District Birkenhead, Vol 8a page 544

Looks like her parents [Sampson Windsor and Sarah [Watts ?] may have married in Yeovil, Somerset in 1861.

On the FreeBMD web site there are 4 Edith Mary's with soundex of Windsor names born 1869 to 1884, and there's an Edith Mary Winser birth registered Dec Qtr 1873 District Hull, vol 9d page 250

In theory there is a slim chance there could be other children with the names whose birth registration hasn't yet been transcribed on FreeBMD. It's easy to confirm using the free GRO birth index images on Ancestry's search pages.

Have you looked for a Winsor [or Wins*r] family arriving in the US at the Castle Garden web site at http://www.castlegarden.org/ , covers 1830 to 1892

Thank you for your reply to my original message but somehow I don't think you are identifying the man I'm looking for. Our Robert (Bob) Winsor lived much if not all of his life in Plymouth ENGLAND, apart from his naval career, and as far as I know, was unlikely to have ever lived in USA. If he were alive today he would be over 90 yrs old. Anyhow I have now a contact in Plymouth ENGLAND with someone who believes they knew father-in-law Bob quite well for many years up till his death some years ago. Their physical description of him sounds right & also of his demeanour as a cultured gentleman. Thank you for your interest.
Vincejaye

ROBERT EDWARD WINSOR

I would very much appreciate any information about the latter years of my father-in-law Robert Edward Winsor. He was the only child of Edward and Eleanor Winsor who used to live at Fairfield Terrace, Newton Abbot. He served as a Royal Navy Officer in World War two on HMS Galatea, surviving its sinking by a U-boat off Alexandria in 1941. He married Anne Maxwell of Larne in 1943. They had three children, my wife Anne being the eldest. Robert became separated from his family and his children subsequently had no further contact with him. He later lived at 8 Old Park Road, Peverell, Plymouth. The latest data that we have that seems to refer to him is from a death index showing-birth date: 1914
death registration: July 1998
age at death: 83
reg. district: Plymouth
Joseph Winsor, Davenport Iowa

I found this newspaper article about a Joseph Winsor, that was published Jan 22 1893 in the newspaper - Davenport Daily Leader (Davenport Iowa).

HE WAS TWO KINDS OF GENIUS

Providence, Jan 21 - Joseph Winsor died Thursday age 84 years. Mr Winsor was an inventor of considerable prominence. Among his inventions are the drop gates used at railroad crossings. He was married seven times and secured judicial separation from six of his wives. The seventh, whom he married five years ago, made such demands upon him that he transferred his large estate to one John Morris on condition that the latter support him properly as long as he lived. The seven wives survive Mr Winsor.

Please note that I have no interest or connection to this Joseph Winsor. I don't know if the Providence mentioned is Providence RI or perhaps is there one in Iowa somewhere?

Hope this article can help someone with their research.

regards,

Colleen Lill
Alberta Canada

I have no clue who his father was or where he came from, but I think he was Irish. I don't even know yet what his wife Helen's maiden name was. I wonder if there is any connection here. I am waiting for death certificates on both of them and I'm not sure if their parents will be listed on those certificates or not.
