I don't think so. Melissa has done the most research on James and his wife had a different name - Mary Jopling and they were married in the US in 1863. Did your James marry Ellen before 1863? Did she die by 1863? otherwise I don't think we are connected.

Herbert Wiseman in Sydney, Australia

I'm from the UK and am trying to find information on my great-grandfather, Herbert Wiseman. Herbert served in the Australian Imperial Force in WW1 and came to the UK where he met my great-grandmother. I have obtained his service record from Australia, but can find no more about him. His record shows that he ws 36 when he enlisted in 1915. His next of kin was given as his mother - Rachael Wiseman - and their address was 'corner of Firth Street and Forrest Road, Arncliffe, Sydney, NSW'. His record shows that he returned to Sydney in 1920. However, I can find no further information on Herbert or his mother. Does anyone know anything about them or can anyone makes any suggestions of where/how I can look for information.

Many thanks

Several family trees list Mary Jane as Mary Jane Combs, however, the death record for James Wiseman lists his mother as Mary Jane Rhodes. Can anyone clarify this discrepancy?

2.	Mary Wiseman is living with her Grandparents in 1875, did John and his wife die in Kansas leaving Mary to be raised by his parents?

3.	Benjamin and Missouri Adler appear in the household of Allen in 1860 and Benjamin again in 1875. How are they related?
4.	Did William Wiseman die before the 1860 census?

5.	I have seen mentioned that Abraham Wiseman was killed in the Civil War. Where would he have signed up or been drafted to serve? Illinois, Indiana, Kansas???

Any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Apart from that, I don't know where she grew up, but that by the time she was thirty (1982-1983 ish) she lived in Toronto .

Thank you SO MUCH for looking into this for me :)

Hi

Just a few questions:

Do you know if Sandra' maiden name is Wiseman or is that her married name. If it is her married name do you know what her maiden name may have been.

You stated that she was born in Corner Brook, do you know if she grew up in Corner Brook as well.

I will have a look around and see if I can come up with anything that may help you.

Bye for now
Mary

Re: John Wiseman - Sarah Wiseman Yorkshire England

My Sarah Wiseman, daughter of John Wiseman, mother's name unknown, married William Acaster (m Ferry Fryston Yorkshire 01 Nov 1796), and they had 10 children according to records I have found. My ancestry is traced to their daughter Anna Maria Acaster(b. Brotherton 13 Jan 1809) who married Makin Durham (m. 14 Sept 1828). Anna and Makin lived in Thorne and both are buried in St. Nicholas Church yard. They had 3 children who lived into adulthood: Frederick Makin, Emma Caroline (m. John Foster), and Hannah Maria (m. Frederick Vickers - m. Thomas William Jeffcock).

Anna's sister Elizabeth (b. Brotherton 2 Jan 1812) married James Weddall. Their daughter Emma Weddall married my G-GF Frederick Durham, i.e., he married his first cousin.

Emma died, and Frederick married my G-GM, Jane Atkinson. Frederick and Jane immigrated to Kerrville, Kerr Co., Texas along with my grandmother Margaret.

William and Sarah lived in Thorne for some years, and also are buried in St Nicholas Church yard.

I hope that this information may be of some use to you. I have more information that I am willing to share. So many people have helped me that I try to do all I can to help others.

John Wiseman - Sarah Wiseman Yorkshire England

Sarah Wiseman was christened in Doncaster, Yorkshire, England on 29 Dec 1775 according to extracted IGI records. She also reported being born in Doncaster in the 1851 British Census. She married William Acaster 1 Nov 1796 in Ferry Fryston, Yorkshire, England, and five of Sarah's 10 children I have identified were born in Brotherton. Her father's name on the christening record is John Wiseman. Does anyone know anything about Sarah's and John's ancestry. Thank you - Catherine
Yes, perhaps this may help we are Wiseman & spelled Weiseman
The root/patronym is ALL the same. It is the First Original German surname created and used in Europe. It highly associated with German Jews. Yiddish is the language and Jews spoke & still do. Wise is from: White or fair complexion. Other variations are: Vaisman, Visman, Viseman etc. A true Origin is spelled " Wittke" for Weiss. Depending on family and new marriages and moving from place to place they would have given different variations of the name. So look at everything count nothing out. good luck K

Wonderful work, Terri! My in-laws are Wisemans, most recently from Kanawha, WV. This is from Wikipedia:Canterbury (ship)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A typical 17th century merchant ship
The Canterbury, or Canterbury Merchant, is the ship that transported William Penn and James Logan from England to Philadelphia in 1699.[1][2][3] The Canterbury set sail from the Isle of Wight on September 3, 1699, reaching Philadelphia on December 3, 1699.[1][4] The captain of the Canterbury is listed as Henry Tregeny by one account and "Hen. Weagene" by another.[5][6] During the voyage the Canterbury, reportedly, survived an attack by pirates.[7]
[edit]Passengers

Isle of Wight
The passenger list, even if one was recorded, is not extant. Therefore, alternative sources have been used to reconstruct the list of passengers and crew.
Confirmed:
William Penn,[8][9] Hannah Penn (second wife of William Penn) and Letitia Penn (daughter of William Penn by his first wife) [10]
James Logan,[11] secretary to William Penn
Henry Tregeny [12] or Henry Weagene [13]
Probable:
John Warder [14][15]
Solomon Warder and Mary Howel [14][16]
Thomas Parson [17]
Randolph Janney [18]
James Streater and family [19]
Timothy Hudson [20]
Joseph Austill [21]
William Smith, wife and family [22]
Samuel Sidon [23]
Abraham Scott [24]
Thomas Storey [25]
James Barton [26]
John and Rebecca Linton [27]
Mary Doe [28]
Thomas Story [29]
[edit]Notes and references

^ a b William Penn, Mary Maples Dunn, Richard S.
