Re: James Martin Wissell

Apparently a US Civil War veteran (http://auscivilwar.com/Ausdied.htm), he settled in Aldgate in the Adelaide Hills. Died Dec 1903, leaving a widow, 3 sons and one daughter.

His son, also James Martin Wissell, was my great-grandfather. The younger James worked as a gardener until a workplace accident in 1903 left him with a wooden prosthetic leg. James and his wife Ellen had a large family (I think 9 children), of which the last surviving one, Doreen, recently passed away aged 100.

Their son, Clarence Martin Wissell, born 10 June 1902, was my grandfather. His only child, June (born 22 July 1933) is my mother.

Hope this helps.

Hello Peter...my name is Charles Rosenberger..my ancestors are from Moembris, Schimborn and Krombach, and I was wondering if you have any information on any Rosenbergers. I have a cousin who spent some time in these towns several years ago, and she managed to trace my people to Peter Rosenberger , born in Krombach in 1757 and married Catharina Hofmann, born 1757 in Mensengasass. They had a son named Johann Georg born 1787.I was just going through some information on "Rootsweb" and happened to come across some old correspondence with your name . If you have any information on Peters ancestors, I would love to know.
I live in Baltimore, Md. and am a retired firefighter.
My e-mail is.... rosey-928@comcast.net
I hope this e-mail finds you and you can get back to me .
My wife and I visited Germany in 2006 for the Christmas markets, but did not get to do any researching.
Thanks for anything you can do for me Charles

Peter,
My husband is a decendent of Phillip Weasel (Wissel) son of Adam Wissel and Eva Herbert Wissel. We are planning a trip to Mombris-Schimborn Germany in late November early December. I was wondering if there is a graveyard or Catholic Church near there to check out their records. I understand that you live around the area.
Thanks for all your help
Kathy

Kevin, It was nice to hear from you. John Wissel is my gg grandfather too. My line is through Andrew. I don't think I have any pictures as far back as John and most of my old pictures are unmarked so I have no idea who they are, but I will look through them. You'll need to give me some time to do that. I inherited many from my grandmother, but I think most of them will be on my mother's maternal side of the family. I know my mother contacted someone in the Wissel family sometime in the 1980s for information and I was supposed to go pick up pictures and stuff, but unfortunately I never got around to it. Of course, I now regret that.

Would you be willing to give me some info on John? I would greatly appreciate it if you would. It sounds like you may have more than I do so I probably don't have anything helpful for you.

Would you mind contacting me at hacalosh@yahoo.com and we can see what we might have to share.

Thanks,Carol

Norbert,
Since you are forcusing on the parental lines, I may not have much. I'll give you what I have although you may already have it.

John Wissel b 1819, d 1894 mar. Ursula Ritter b Oct 21, 1821 in Baden Germany, d May 25, 1899 St. Bernard, Ohio. Ursula's father was Hugo Ritter. Ursula's funeral was at St. Clement Church. I don't have a mother's name.

Are you using Census records for any of your documentation on John? I found John in the 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 Federal Census. Census records show John from Bavaria and Ursula from Baden. If you want any other information from the census records or my other sources, I would prefer to do that by email and not through these threads.

Do you have any other information on John Wissel or Ursula Ritter? Do you know what cemetery John and Ursula are buried? I tried back in the late 1980s but never did find where they might be buried.

Carol

Carol,
John Wissel (1819-1894) was my wife's ggg grandfather through his son Peter. I have not been researching much on the sibling lines; I've been focusing first on taking the parental lines as far back as possible. Other users within this email thread have done a bit more research on the Wiseel lines than I, but I'd be glad to exchange any info that I have.

Norbert Bambach, Cincinnati Ohio

Trying to locate information on the family of an Otto Frank Wissel (1889-1955)who resided in the Los Angeles area. His wifes name was Atta Bertina Chapman. Their children were:

Gretchen Dale Wissel (Abt. 1915 in California)

Walter Frank Wissel (1921-1943)Listed as Missing In Action during WW2

Bertina Erwillynn Wissel (1926-1984)

According to WW1 Registration Card' Otto was single in 1917 so it's possible that Gretchen is from Atta's 1st marriage.

If there is anyone who can help me track this family' please don't hesitate to respond.

Jennifer

The Name Stadtmueller or Stattmueller ( all the same) in the German Spelling with Umlaut is very ubiquitous here in the Aschaffenburg Kahlgrund region. My grandmother was a Stadtmueller and I have two clans of Stadtmueller in my data base , which until now I could not relate to each other yet. However, that they are related there can be little doubt and sooner or later I will find the connection if I look for it. I have carthographed about 50 000 entries from the immediate region that includes the parishes of Sailauf, Moembris , Schoellkrippen , Johannesberg , Goldbach, Glattbach and Hoesbach with a few other parishes in between. I have about 1000 or so Stadtmueller in my files and it could well be that your ancestor is among my data. However to be more precise I would have to know the exact village of origin of your ancestor or if it was in Aschaffenburg - the exact parish in this city, if possible - in order to identify your ancestor . With a little bit of luck your Stadtmueller connects to one of these Stadtmueller lines and then depending on which line it would be run then back to the 1600s. I am not at home now and I am writing from memory, but as far as I can remember the oldest Stadtmueller known here is Nikolaus Stadtmueller from the parish of Moembris and it is very likely that he is your oldest known Stadtmueller known her. Send me occasionally some precise data of your ancestor and I will check him against my data base. there is also an exhibition presently held in Aschaffenburg on emmigration from Bavaria to the USA . I will go there occasionally and let you know if your ancestor is listed in this exhibition.
Best regards
phufgard@web.de
Peter Hufgard

Hallo

At the moment there is a large exhibition in Aschaffenburg on emigration to the USA . The exhibition is titled good bye Bayern Gruess Gott America. It would certainly be possible with some efforts to trace the exact lineage of your ancestor. At the moment I have little opportunity to do active research but I have carthographed about 50 000 names and there could be a chance that I have your ancestor in my data base. I will check it as soon as I am home again. There are many people who may be able to help you in this region especially some in the Kahlgrund Forum who are doing research very actively. Almost all people here in the Kahlgrund are related one way or the other provided you have enough data to go back far enough. The longest family tree of a person that I have researched is exactly 1152 entries. If your ancestors are Wissel from the region here I bet you are related to this person as I am as well.
Hallo in the USA

Your Wissel that you mentioned that came from the aerea of Aschaffenburg is lekely to have originated inthe parish of Moembris where there are many Wissel. In Aschaffenburg of course which is the "local New York" (just joking) , there are also Wissel. You must find out the parish from which this Wissel comes from as otherwise it is difficult to pinpoint the origin. I have about 1200 Wissel listed in my data base but there are many many more. However one can say with almost certainty that your Wissel is a descendant of the first wissel that migrated to the Kahlgrund region due to religious displacements in the Lower Rhine (Niederrhein Area). I am not on my computer now so I can't give you exact details but I can look up my data base to see whether I can find him. I have about 50 000 people carthographed in my data base and there possibilities that I may find him if he is from the parish of Moembris. Let me know the specifics of your ancestor - and when I am back home I check whether he is listed in my data base. You can also contact me under my email: phufgard@web.de
I am related to the Wissel via two lines and therefore I have considerable data about them.

Best regards

Peter Hufgard

Hello Peter
I am researching Wissels in Indiana - George and Katharina (Hoffman) Wissel were my husband's g-grandparents. They emigrated from Neusengesatz, Germany in 1912 with their daughter, Marguerite (sp?), and were joined by their son Joseph (born 23 Oct 1885) in 1914.
I am particularly interested in their daughter Clara Wissel, (b.12 Aug 1893) who is my husband's grandmother. She was said to have emigrated to US in 1912 as a housemaid to a Neumann family. Clara married Ansgar Sturm about 1918, and they lived in Hamilton Co, Ohio for a while before moving to CT and then NY in the 1930's.
Clara & Ansgar's daughter, my mother in law, has memories of visiting Uncle Joseph's farm in Brookville, IN, as a child.
So what do you think? Are we connected?

Mary Kate
Jesse,
I am really interested in this. I have been off it for awhile but Aunt Ditty said you were involved. Just talked to them the other night. My sisters Myrtle and Valerie are now down in Tampa - they both just retired. Hope to be getting back into it and when we do I will send you the info I have on that side.
Would appreciate your sending it. I still have vague memories of you all and your family from when I was little.
Thanks again,
Colleen
If this George was born in Newark, NJ then he could be the son of Johann Adam Wissel and Elizabeth Wolpert who came from Bavaria in 1860. They had a bakery in Newark. They are my greatgrand parents. JJW
