Thank you for the reply, I was able to find a wealth of information. The Daniel Wofford born 1774 in South Carolina and died 1859 in Polk County, TX was the son of John and Eleanor Wofford.

This Daniel married Elizabeth Webb and they had the following children;
1. John Wofford (as you mentioned)
2. Webb Wofford.

Lyle

There are probably many Daniel Wofford's. In deWitt County
there was a Daniel Webster Wofford who married Nancy Cooper
in June 1850. He was the son of John Wofford who was born 1799 in NC. I do not have any info on an earlier Daniel Wofford in DeWitt County. Source-Fuel for a feud by Marjorie Lee Burnett.

Daniel Wofford of Texas

Can someone provide the exact date of death for Daniel Wofford the settled in DeWitt County, Texas? I’ve seen 1846 and 1859. Also I found interesting references regarding a Daniel Wofford of Polk County, Texas and I’m wondering if he is one in the same as the Daniel Wofford of DeWitt County since their approximate birth years are very close (1771 to 1774). Also does anyone have or know of a will or estate record for Daniel Wofford?

Point of Reference #1: Daniel Wafford listed as a slave owner on the 1850 Polk County, Texas Slave schedule page 3 on 11 November 1850 listing seven slaves (the gender column were not completely filled out) and the 30 year old female was listed as “M” for mulatto.

Point of Reference #2: Eighty-two-year-old Daniel Wofford states that he owns a female slave and her five children and as "they have been faithful servants to him in his old age he wishes to give them their freedom." He therefore "prays your Honorable body to Pass an act, Permitting them to be freed, and remain in the State, as your Petitioner will comply with the Law to Prevent their ever becoming a charge to the State." Wofford further cites that said slaves "have been raised to habits of industry, and are well Known as being Slaves of good Character & Correct habits."

Slaves Owned; Susan, Jim, George, Alzaid, Eliza, and Henry

[Citation; Petition 11585310, Polk County, Texas; salutation To the Senate and House of Representatives of the Legislature of Texas; Filing Date: 1853 December 1.
Repository: Texas State Library-Archives Division, Austin, Texas (Records of the Legislature, Memorial and Petitions; Record Group 100; Box 15; Folder 3]

Point of Reference #3: my wife is a descendant of James “Jim” Worford born 1843 in Mississippi; he had a daughter named Alzaid and a son named Henry; he also had a brother named Henry.

Thank you,
Lyle
I just saw your posting about a typewritten copy for the inventory on Lott P. Massey's estate. Would it be possible for me to get a copy of this? My line is Margaret Semanthe Massey b. ca 1853, dau. of Lott P. Massey and Parthena Wofford, who married 1st Joseph Bishop and 2nd John Patrick O'Brien. I would appreciate any help you could give me. My email is wandaj@suddenlink.net
Thank you,
Wanda

The Woffords I have information on were primarily in Georgia. But, I lose trace of many of them in the 1930's-1940's. They very well could have migrated to Arkansas. The name William Wofford shows up in my family history quite a bit. I have an article about my Woffords that was published in the Official History of Whitfield County Georgia. I'll share it with you. Please email me at kds29@cox.net

My son's grandfather(Henry Wofford) was born in Georgia...around 1918...to a William Henry Wofford...who was married to a Josie ? Wofford...lots of brothers and sisters...what I have heard is that Henry was the oldest....his dad dies pretty young...and Henry helped raise the kids...(that is family gossip). I am told there is still family reunions held around Dalton georgia...every year.. I am doing this for my son..who wants to know more about his family..his dad is very closed on this subject....and not very family minded...I am sure that if you are from or have relatives in the Dalton area and are African American..you are somehow kin to my son...would like to find out any info. you may have..thanks
