I've been researching my Wolfe roots which lead to Meigs county. My grandmother is Mildred Irene Wolfe, daughter of Nett Wolfe (b1884 in Meigs County) and Roxie Mae Watson. Nett moved his family to Columbiana county sometime in the 1920s. He is the son of John Perry Wolfe (b1838 in Meigs Co) and Mary Ann Lowe. John is the son of Henry Wolfe (b1795 in Shenandoah co VA)and Elizabeth Roush.

I am trying to find proof as to who Henry's parents were. I've seen the Meigs County Pioneers book which states that a George Wolfe brought his son Henry to Meigs county from Shenandoah Co VA but don't know for sure if this is the same Henry.

Also I believe Roxy Mae's mother was a Pickens but am not sure of this either. Any help in either area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

James Nett Taylor

I hope I didn't offend you .
Sincerely ,
Warren Miller

I've been searching for 5 years to no avail to trace my family to some rumored Cherokee's in Southern Illinois. If anyone has any idea, please please please let me know. My Grandfather told us all of our Cherokee heritage, but he has since passed and no one can remember how the line went. I just want to trace the line and be sure which clan we came from, so I can learn more about them. My family names consist of Wolf(e), Monroe, Shelby and Chapman.

Henry Wolfe

I am descended through my grandmother Mildred Irene Wolfe (born in Meigs county in antiquity about 1905) to the Wolfe families of Meigs county. I am trying to trace back to prove or disprove a family myth that we are descended from an Andrew Wolfe. My great-grandfather was Nett Wolfe (b1884 Meigs county) son of John Perry Wolfe (b1840 Meigs county) son of Henry Wolfe who moved to Meigs county in the early 1800s from Shenandoah county Va. I am stuck at Henry Wolfe as I cant find any definitive evidence of who his parents were. I have seen the reference in Pioneer Families of Meigs county to a George Wolfe being the father of a Henry Wolfe but am not sure it is the same one. Can anyone out there provide an additional information? Thanks

Re: Wolfe Family of PA

It is quite possible the child (Sarah) of George (1772-1853) and Nancy Agnes (Evans) Wolfe (1778-1867)could be your Sarah for I have no birth year for her. I dont have access to Ancestry.com now for I just dont have the money for it at this time. But if I recall correctly she is not enumerated with George and Nancy in the 1850 Federal Census, which is the first year the Federal Census listed everyone by name. I have four females listed as the Children for George and Nancy. The 1790-1840 Federal Census only listed the head of house, then everyone else enumerated in that house hold was shown as a male or female and ticked of within the age brackets on the Census. You can view all the Federal Census forms to see what I'm talking about by following the following link. http://www.ancestry.com/charts/census.aspx Doing research prior to the 1850 Federal Census is very difficult. My suggestion is to go to Pennsylvanis Vital Records to see if their is a Death Certificate for Peter or Sarah Painter. Doubtfully if their is one, but you never know. The Tarentum Public Library has a ton of Genealogy information, that would be a great place to look if they stayed in the Alleghney County area. You might try going to the court house in Pittsburgh and looking up old wills, tax records, and land deeds. Sorry I can not be of more help. Pleas post here or email me at bblust@zoominternet.net with anything you find, I would be very interested. I have a lot of info on the George Wolfe line, so, if your interested in it please email me at the above address. Good luck.

It looks like we are talking about 2 different Charles Wolfe's. You mentioned a Denver Jackson being a brother of Charles. However William Wesley only had three sons, James D. b.1875, Charles M. b.1883, and George W. b.1886.

Also you mentioned being Cherokee, and William Wesley Wolfe wasn't Cherokee, as neither his father David C. Wolfe nor his mother Christenah Perkey

Also William Wesley Wolfe was married twice, once to Eliza, and once in 1901 to Queene Russ.

There was another William Wolfe b.1843 living in Benton Arkansas about the same time that was about the same age that might be your William.

Percy Wolfe or Wolf or Armstrong Co, PA

Looking for information about my great grandfather, Percy Wolfe (Wolf) of Armstrong Co. PA, probably linked to Jacob Wolf much farther up the tree but grandchildren of Jacob lead to dead ends. Percy was born circa 1874, married to my great grandmother Rose Ella Bish. I do know that he divorced Rose, leaving his sons Fred and Raymond (my grandfather) to fend for themselves when they were teenagers. So Percy probably had another family afterwards. It's possible Percy was a nickname.

The Adam Wolfe that I am researching was born Dec. 15 1760 in Beaver Co. Pa. He married Rachel Oldham Jan. 16 1790. They had 10 children all of them born in Pa. The family moved to Monroe Twp. Richland Co Ohio. Adam was instrumental in the organization of the Regular Baptist Church of Newville Ohio. He and Rachel are buried in the Newville Cemetery. He fought in the Revolutionary War. My husband is descended through his son Robert, Roberts son David Scott, Davids son, Robert Davis and his son Vergil. I am trying to establish the parents of Adam. I would be appreciative of any help that anyone can give me. My email address is Ewolfe19@aol.com.

The document says that their destination was CONNECTICUT.
John was a storekeeper.
I have also found death of John B. Wolfe in 1926, in New Haven , Connecticut. Ancestry says the Cemetery is n°3, I don't know what this means !
There is also another J.B. Wolfe death in 1926 in Mapledale Cemetery ...
Can anyone help me to find this family - I would like to know if they had any children etc etc.
Many thanks in advance
Elizabeth
Cognac, France

I am descended from Adam Wolf 1775- 1838, son of Phillip Wolf 1734-1823, son of Anton Wolf 1718- 1774. Anton and son Phillip were born in Germany; Adam was born 11 Jan 1775 in York County, PA. He married Anna Marie Clippinger. They lived in Cumberland Co., PA and had a son Barnet A. b. 3 Oct 1815. Family lore has it that Barnet or his children added the "E" to Wolf because of anti-German/anti-immigrant sentiment which was rampant in the 19th century.

James Wolf/Wolfe was my GGrandfather. I'm at a brick wall as to where he was buried and as to how he died. GGrandmother Hannah Jane (Lambert) Wolf is buried in Hogan Cemetery, Gallatin County, Illinois. You can find more information from the 1800 Illinois census on up to the 1910 census where Hannah Jane is listed as Jane and as head of household. Living with her at the time is one child Samuel whom is my Grandfather, also buried at Hogan Cemetery. There are Wolfs and Lamberts(Lamperts) living in Shawneetown, Il. I knew of an Alta Ruth Lambert and I think it was her brother Edgar Lambert.

Wow, I think we are from the same "pack" of Wolfes. My grandfather, Donald James Wolfe, son of (I think), Peter Wolfe or Oral Wolfe,,,, well let me shorten this up. I have a print out from my Grandfather Donald James Wolfe that I believe would help you with pieces of your puzzle. Maybe you could fill in some gaps for me too.

So sorry to be so long about responding to your query.
I have had no luck finding this book.
I did get a response from a lady that had a Wolf family journal about a family moving to new place. Good information and a good read, but did not help me.

My great grandmother was Elizabeth J. Wolf/e. Born in 1830/31. She married Thomas F. Smothers in Davidson County, Tn. (Nashville) in 1849. They are on the Davidson County Tn. Census in 1850. I have followed them through the years. They moved to Marshall County, KY and there they lived till their death.

Their marriage is as far back as I have been able to record them. I have no idea who Elizabeth's parents or siblings are.
I have the same problem with Thomas F. Smothers.
Need help with information.

Linda Medley
suemedley@yahoo.com
