I am a Woodall descendant but don't recognize these names from my research. Is their any indication where the photo's were made. Would love to see these go the appropriate family.

Hi Bud, I will have a look in my files. I had another Ann who married James which came from some research I had done,
I may have that .Did you have a Woodall DNA done ? It's a pity more descendents from Dudley in the U.K. don't have it done then we may get lucky and join the families .Another problem I have there were Hannah Woodall's born about the same time and they were called Ann .Have you access to Ancestry.com as my tree is on there ? ,Geoff.

Hi Bud ,We may have been in touch re the Woodall DNA in the past.I descend from James Woodall Dudley abt.1774 .He married Ann Woodall 1794 Dudley.Like you getting the correct family is a nightmare .I have the FOLLOWING as the family of Ann Woodall mainly as the date fits and she had a brother Enoch who seems to have vanished from further records .James and Ann called their first son Enoch ( perhaps Ann's brother Enoch died and she called her son after him )I have James as the son of William Woodall and Margaret Marsh , they also had a son Benj. and a Benj. was a witness at James marriage .Another possible James was the son of Job Woodall ,Ann's cousin and it was common for cousin's to marry in that area .Enoch as a name travelled down to the present day.Their are a few gaps in James and Ann's children so some may have died or more still to be found .Two of their descendents also married Woodall's .

1. Abraham Woodall was born 1731. He married Eleanor Hubbal January 27, 1754 in Dudley
Worcestershire. She was born abt.1735 in Dudley Worcestershire .
Children of Abraham Woodall and Eleanor Hubbal:
i. Joseph Woodall was born 1754.
ii. William Woodall was born 1757.
iii. Enoch Woodall was born 1759.
iv. Luke Woodall was born 1762.
v. Seloy Woodall was born 1765.
vi. 2. Prudence Woodall was born 1769.
vii. Elizabeth Woodall was born 1772.
viii. Ann Woodall was born 1777.
ix. Mary Woodall was born 1779.
2nd Generation

Hi I purchased a bunch of Woodall family photos at a local antique store (Salem, OR). I am not related -- if you are and would like the originals, just let me know!

Photos are of Lawrence Milton Woodall (1879 Alabama - 1946 California), his second wife Bertha (Dunn), their son William Frank Woodall (1935-2000), and a group Woodall photo with what appears to be a bunch of generations (unlabelled).

Again, I would love to get these to an interested relative, so if you want the originals, just let me know!

if you look at the 1840 census for Absalom P Woodall, they appear to have 6 sons. The oldest would have been to old to live at home in the 1850 census where the five children you have below are listed. Do you know anything about the 6th child?

Woodalls, I also have a blood line to these. On my other side, Zephaniah's brother, Ewin Woodall, was my 3rd great grandfather who died in Davidson Co, TN. He was married to Emma Jackson.Zephaniah's wife was Rebecca Elizabeth Wynn, but went by Bettie. She was born in Iuka, Tishomingo Co, MS and died in Hillsboro, TX. I have some pictures of their daughters as they were in contact in the early 1900's.

Job Woodall, c.1803-c.1881, Birmingham, UK

I am having the greatest difficulty following this branch of my family tree and wondered if anyone could help. The many variations of the surname are not helping, neither the common first names....

My grandmother was Elsie Woodall, 1893-1964. Married Ernest Albert Cale, 1892-1947. Birmingham.

Her father was Elijah Woodall, c.1853-1904. Probably born Birmingham, maybe born Dudley. Married Ann/Anne Eaton/Heaton/Easton, b. 1857 (on their marriage certificate she is Easton, 17 Aug 1873). Elijah worked as a tube maker. They had 17 children, 10 of whom lived past infancy. Anne was a penmaker. She was born in London. Her father, John Easton, is recorded as a boatman on the Elijah/Anne marriage certificate.

His father was Job Woodall, c.1803-1881, married to Mary, c.1810-1890. He was born in Dudley. She was born in Measham, Derbyshire. I haven't been able to find any record of their marriage. Job was a blacksmith's striker and laborer.

Any suggestions for making more headway with Job and Mary? I'm in California, so trips to the local record office are not possible!

Hi Rob
Yes I have been to Dudley twice...1962 and 1974. An aunt of mine,a sister to my grandmother ,visited frequently from Canada so I knew a lot of the people to whom she referred. The Jacksons left Dudley en masse about 1904 since there was no work except in the mines.
One branch, the Allens ,were in the china business and a cousin,Kathleen Allen and her husband Ron Whitehouse are still in the china business in Rowley Regis.
Another bunch, the Owen line were likely from South Wales.Edward Owen and son Edward Owen were on the gang that made the anchor chain links for the Titanic. Family joke is they made the links too heavy and thus they pulled the ship down
I was raised for 3 yrs by my grandfatheer Jackson so I think my first language was what I call "Dudley-speak".
The areas of Oakum,Netherton,Porters Field etc were commonly mentioned in chit chat.

I also have Family Tree Maker and have a lot of what you have on the Woodalls . But I would gladly receive the whole Woodall descendancy. Can you send me a descendancy chart on the Woodall clan starting at the earliest Woodall you have?
I am a retired "headmaster", Math and Physics under-grad and also a Sub-Lieutenant(Rtd) in the Canadian Navy, although that commission was earned about 50 yrs ago in summer and winter training while a student.
When you next go to the Reg Office let me know as there are a few areas i need some data
Bud

Hi, Bud,
Hope the weather is better for you than in UK. Just picking up the tail of the hurricane. We were going up to our second home in the Cotswolds yesterday but have delayed for a couple of days.
Originally, Val. & I come from Dudley. I joined the Royal Navy in 1958 and eventually settled in Portsmouth on the South Coast. Now been here for 40 years but our roots are still 'Up North'
I have quite a lot of info. on Abraham Woodall, b. 5.12.1731, including his 13 siblings. Joseph, his father, b. 15.10.1693 also had 13 siblings. I have a lot of details on them (b.m.&ds). Joseph's father was John, b. 21.1.1664, married to Mary Hollys, b. 1663. John's father, also John, b. 25.8.1640, married to Marey, b. 1642, married 1661. in 1658 John's father was William, b. 1615, married Ann in 1638. William's father was Gregory Woodall, b. 1583.
That should keep you going for a while!! If you would like the lists of all the siblings, let me know. It will probably be a couple of days before I reply. Apart from going away, I have 2 sets of Family Tree Maker to update !! (one for the desktop, the other for the laptop)
Have you ever been to Dudley? When I was a lad, it was full of heavy industry but most of that has now gone. I know the Dixon Green area, where the Woodalls lived, very well. It had some lovely property but now they have become apartments. We go to Dudley about once a year as Val's mother is buried there, so we tend the grave. She died in 1950, age 34yrs.
I do go to the Records Office in Worcester quite often. They seem to have most of the parish registers on microfilm. If there are any details I can help you with, just let me know.
Regards,
Rob.

Hi, Bud,
Thanks for your reply. Sorry it has taken so long to reply but time seems to go so quickly when you are retired !!
Yes, we are related. Taking Abraham Woodall, 5.12.1731, married to Elaenor Hubbel, b. 1731, married 27.1. 1754
They had Joseph,c. 8.9.1754 (just made it!!), who married Hannah Willey, married 10.5.1778 and begat Benjamin, b. 12.9. 1819, who married Sarah Jones on 27.12.1803.
One of their children was Daniel, b. 1803, d. 1866, a chainmaker, who married Sarah Evans. They produced Daniel, b. 1851, a butcher who married Sarah Hannah Eades, b. 1849. They were my great-grandparents. Their daughter, Lily Matilda, b. 1876, married Albert Phillips, b. 1873 at Defford in Worcestershire. They were married on 31.10.1897 at St. John's Church, Dudley (This is where the Tipton Slasher is buried. He was a bare-knuckle prize fighter)
Albert & Liliy produced a daughter. Evelyn Gladys, b. 1899 & George Gilbert, b. 6.6.1901. Evelyn did not marry; George married Hilda Adelaide Victoria Webb, b. 1902 at Tipton. They had 2 sons, David, b. 1932 & myself, Robert George on 1.2.1939. David married twice but no issue from either marriage. I married Valerie Ann Boden, b. 1938 and in 1963 we had a daughter, Helen Clare. She is married with a son, James David Clarke, b. 1984. Unfortunately, our lines of Woodalls & Phillips now die out.
I have done a lot of research with the Woodalls, back to Gregory, b. 1583 but, as you say, there were lots & lots of them with the same Christian names. Still, it finds us something to search out !!
Rob.

Hi, Bud,
Just read your article on the Woodall family - very interesting and lots of info, including a lot of my family!!
My maternal grandmother, Lily Matilda Woodall, b.1875 who married, on 31 Oct. 1897 Albert Phillips. Lily's parents were Thomas Woodall, b. 1851 (a butcher) and Sarah Hannah Eades. I will have a look through all your names and be in touch but there are many names that I recognise already.
Rob.
