Susan,

The two William Woods I'm working on are listed below on the 1860 Lawrence County Alabama Census. On the 1850, 1870 and 1880 Census the younger William Woods and Dicey are in Morgan County Alabama.

1860 Lawrence County Alabama Census
527/527
William Woods 46 Farmer 150 100 SC
Nicy 36 AL ** Error should be Dicy
Greenbury 17 AL
Joseph 16 AL
Catherine 12 AL
Jane 9 AL
Moses 7 AL
Lela 5 AL
William Wood 66 SC

William and Dicey must have moved from Blount County to Morgan County Alabama sometime between 1842 and 1850. Because their son Greenberry was born in Blount County, but the family of William and Dicey appear on 1850 Morgan County Alabama Census.

I don't know if the older William Woods is the same William you're looking for.

Re: Nicholas Woods & William Woods, Edgefield S.C.

The William in Morgan County Alabama was born about 1821 so he is much too young to be the Grandfather William I am chasing but maybe it is his son.

My William Woods was born about 1790 and died after 1870 in Blount County Alabama. I believe he is a son who shows up in Edgefield County South Carolina on the 1800 and 1810 census with the household head of Nicholas Woods.

Nicholas dies between Feb 1820 and August 1821 in Edgefield County South Carolina, leaving a widow named Nancy. Before his death he leaves everything and his land of 75 acres to Nancy Wood as a Deed of Gift, love.

Nancy and her son William sell property together after the death of Nicholas.

William shows up in Blount County Alabama around 1834 getting BLM land, He also shows up with my Osiah Woods in the land documents. Per Osiah's Rev. War papers he was born 1811 in Edgefield County South Carolina so that fits the time frame when William was in Edgefield with his mother.

I believe William is the father to my Osiah. Osiah named a son William Nicholas, after his father and grandfather.

My Osiah was married in Morgan County Alabama in 1835 to Eliza Johnson. Osiah's sister, Nancy, married James Johnson who is a brother to Eliza so there is a connection to Morgan County Alabama.

I do believe that Osiah has a brother named William R. Woods as he shows up on the 1840 census as W. R. Woods and in 1855 Morgan Alabama land records as William Woods Jr. And in 1859 land records as William R. Woods. He died, according to the 1860 Mortality Book for Alabama, on Aug 1860, age 56, born South Carolina. He could be the William Woods on the 1870 census with wife Disa. I have no proof. It is interesting to note that William and Disa named kids, Nancy and William, perhaps after his father and his grandmother. His daughter Elisa could be named after his brothers wife Eliza, just guesses, but I find that most families named their children after someone they admired.

Please let me know what you think and if we could have a connection.

Could your William Woods be the William Woods who appears on the Lawrence County Alabama Census with family of William and Dicy Woods? Appears to be born in North Carolina. William Woods the son appears in Morgan County Alabama for other Census except for this one in Lawrence.
Rebecca

In Carroll Co., MS, Andrew Woods was a slaveowner. But I think he came out of TN not AL. I don't think he came "through" AL but I could be wrong. The Woods in Dallas & Perry Counties that I'm researching is Middleton G. Woods. He was a land purchaser in MS but supposedly died before 1839 in AL and had a large plantation run by slaves. Thanks for your response and will keep you in mind if I run across anything that looks helpful to your research as well. ~Verna~

In 1880, they listed her under Morning Bradley (Midway, Carroll Co Ms), and in 1900 they listed her under Minnie Bradley ( beat 5 Carroll Co, Ms). I was able to verify her since her children lived next to her, and Jos is still listed as the husband. I also noted that she is listed as being born in Ala, as well a her father. Her mother was listed as being from VA. I am trying to verify their names.

My line is white but I am studying also a Woods line from Dallas Co., AL in 1830 who had many slaves running a plantation there in Dallas and also in Perry Co AL. Do you know where your Nancy Woods was born? Or what county she lived in in AL? and where in MS did she live (where is she located on the 1880 census?). Thanks for your info. ~Verna~

I am a direct black descendant of Nancy Monia Woods Bradley, who was born around 1830 in Ala. She was mulatto, and had the following children: Anthony, Elias, Sarah, Monroe, and Narcisse Woods. She later married Jos Bradley in 1862 and had Lee Bradley (1864). Nancy lived in Ms, and is listed in the 1880 census. If this is the same line, I have her picture, and two of her children.

Thank you so much for your help with Lemuel and the family. I am stumped. There is my husbands great grandfather. Lucius Henry Woods, his father's name is Lemuel F Woods, mother Elizabeth Schelling, Kingston, NH. He does not show up in the census with that family until he is about 20 years old and married. I see the four children Lemuel and Elizabeth have but where is Lucius. His death certificate says they are his parents, I don't think so. He was born in 1869 too close to Percival. I then see Lemuel was boarding with the Joseph T Bronard family in Maine when he was 16. There is a child there age 2 named Lucius H., but the birth years don't line up. Can you help me at all with this? I have been struggling with this family for two years now and no luck. I went to Boston for a birth certificate and there is none. Death Certificate says Charlestown, nope. Thanks in Advance

James & Jackson Woods

I'm currently stuck attempting to place some people in my tree.

Jackson Woods, although I've seen his name as John Jackson Woods, was, according to research, born in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, around 1814. I saw posted somewhere that his death was around 1861. If anyone has more information on him, that would be great.

However, the person I'm most interested in is his father. I have him listed as a James Woods, but I'm not sure where he was born and I've only seen listed once as a birth year of 1765, but I'm not 100% on that. I do have on my family tree a death year of 1823 in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania.

Anyone with any information would be greatly appreciated. I'm interested in finding out where my Woods family started from. It seems like they've been in the states, especially Pennsylvania for a long time, and I've searched the surname and it comes up in Great Britain and also Ireland. Perhaps James was also a Pennsylvanian, but I like making connections to where my family came from before becoming Americans.

Thanks again in advance!

Elin

ALL WOODS FROM MISSISSIPPI & ALABAMA

I descend from Jeremiah Woods who can first be found on the 1850 Choctaw Co., MS census with his mother Elizabeth Fowler Woods (born abt 1812 in GA) and other siblings (Stephen, James M., Philip Marshall, Mary, Joseph Harvey, William Wiley, and Henry L.F.). I am in search particularly of any Woods (MALE) descendants to discuss the possibility of DNA testing. Please email me at vernaws@aol.com. I am also interested in connecting with any Woods descendants who you have a documented Woods line as having lived in possibly Marion Co., AL (which could have been parts of the Alabama counties of Fayette, Lamar, Walker, and Winston, and parts of the Mississippi counties of Itawamba, Lowndes, and Monroe). We have an unidentified husband of Elizabeth Fowler Woods and would like to connect with some possible siblings of this unknown Woods that we suspect to have been in that Marion Co. AL area between the late 1820s to 1830-1834 timeframe. Perhaps the county lines changed rather than the family physically moving. The oldest son was born in AL in 1832 and the next son in MS by 1833 or 1834 and then all the future children born in MS.

Again, please email me if you descend from any documented Woods lines from that area of Alabama at vernaws@aol.com. Thank you so very much! Verna W. Stone

Nancy Stien has done extensive work on the Woods Family. My Grandfather knew Thomas Woods and spoke of him like an uncle. Thomas was about the same age as my great grandfather, and lived with my great grandfather's family for a time after John's death. Thomas was born in Jasper County Illinois and is buried in Hankins Cemetary which is located in Jasper County Illinois.

I have seen Amos Woods and Hannah _______ , and Moses Woods (brother to Amos) and Esther Houghton as parents.

This is a MtDNA line so if I can find absolute it's Moses and Esther, I at least, get a few more generations before the mother's maiden names run out. :)

Thanks,

Linsey I'm looking for any and all info on the Mayhews and the Woods. Anything helpful that we're willing to share would be greatly appreciated. Also it's wonderful to find other realitives out there. If there's anything that I can help with, let me know. I've found lots of info on Wardner Thomas Lawrence and on Myron William Lawrence, but not much on the rest of the family. The only things I'm not clear on with Wardner and Myron is: I don't have any idea where Wardner's wife is buried, Stanley and his wife are buried and anything on Stanley's son Dennis Reid Lawrence. As for Myron, I have nothing on his second wife or if he had any children at all. Again, thanks so much for your help.
Luwana

He was known as "Blind Andy" but I have struck a bit of a wall trying to find out anything more about this family after 1901.

Any pointers on how to dig deeper in Scotland from way over in Australia.

Hi there! I have 2 books in the works one is Descendants of Monty n Isabella. It has a multitude of important documents and pictures. I started redoing it in 2008 but that was when I lost my parents, husband and baby daughter so it never got published. The other one is the ancient ancestry of Zadock n Minerva and a number of never before published of Zadock, Monty, Isabella, her father, Monty Zadock and many other that many researched by many professionals! I am in Houston and unable to get to them before abt 2 mos as I am taking care of a friend who has stage 4 cancer n treatment will last at least 2 months. Maybe longer! Keep him in your prayers: Barry! He has not accepted Christ yet and that is the most impt part of this to me! Email is Lildoc98@yahoo.com. One is Descendants of Monty n Isabella with many many artifacts and pics and another is the ancient lineage of Zadock and Minerva and some almost proven daguerreotypes of Zadock, Monty, Monty Z, Henry and Jane with a lock of her hair!
Thomas Woods, Mary Delaney

I am looking for a Woods family (and maybe a Delaney family) in County Louth. My g-g-g-grandparents were: Thomas Woods (b. 1797, Ireland-in the North), and Mary Delany (b. 1800, Ireland),
and they had a son, Charles Langford Woods, who I just found out was born in Dundalk, County Louth--September 20th, 1834.
There were two other brothers born in Ireland as well: Thomas Woods, Jr. (b. 1831), and George Woods (b. 1836).
It is a little mysterious, because Thomas Sr., and Mary Delaney had previously emigrated to America, got married in Vermont in 1825, and had two children: William (b. 1827), and Sarah (b. 1828).
Then for some unknown reason, they went back to Ireland, where they had the three boys mentioned above--Charles, Thomas, Jr., and George.
Since Charles was born in Dundalk, County Louth, it's likely that the other two were as well.
Soon after, the family came back to Vermont, had two more children: Jane (b. 1839), and Eliza/Elida (b. 1843), and finally settled in Fond Du Lac, WI. Family lore is that Thomas Sr. returned to Ireland on his own, to the consternation of his clan. Does this ring a bell for any potential cousins out there? Any clue would be much appreciated!----Maggie Connell

David Woods 1818-1877; Leah Eckels 1820-1909

I am looking for the parents of David Woods who is shown in Xenia, Greene, Ohio in 1850; Pulaski, Williams, Ohio in 1860; and Highland, Defiance, Ohio in 1870. He married Leah Eckels, daughter of Nathaniel and Anna Eckels (she is said to have been born in Sewickly, Allegheny, PA in 1820 but relocated to McKeesport, PA where her brother was born about 1831) in Pittsburgh, PA in 1842. Their first son, George Albert Woods was born in McKeesport, PA (according to his Civil War pension record). David's parents may be David Woods and Mary Ritchie but I have yet to find proof. Any help is appreciated. bob_woods@byu.edu
