I have unclear information but I think there was an Abishai Woodward of New London, CT - maybe a shipbuilder originally - whose daughter was Sarah Woodward, married in 1813 to George Sheffield II 9born april 4, 1786 and probabliy died of 1834 of cholera. Could this be the same Abishai Woodward in your line? He would be a direct grandfather of mine about 4-5 generations back.

Re: WOODWARD family in Connecticut

Am looking for a Joshua Woodward who moved to Pittsford, vt in in 1774. He had a wife and 3 sons; John, Amos, and Joshua(2).
I am a direct descendent of Joshua(2). He Joshua (2)moved to Herkimer, ny in about 1785/1790. I am unable to tie down the lineage of Joshua(1). Suspect that he was born in CT. He was probably married there. He died in VT in 1778 so it is likely that at least one, and possibly all of his sons were born before the family moved to VT. My best guess is that Joshua(1) was the son of Caleb and Anna Woodard and was born in Windham, CT in 1740. Am unable to verify this. If any one with genealogical data on the Woodward/Woodard family can shed any light on this, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.. Jim Woodard jjwdrd@q.com

WOODWARD, STRAUB family in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana, 1930

The 1930 Census for Monroe, Ouachita Parish, Louisiana shows the following family: Mathis (Mathias) L. STRAUB, occupation cooper, born about 1887 in Arkansas to German born parents. Also, his wife, Blanche (Woodward) STRAUB, born in Texas about 1889, his son, Paul Straub, born in Louisiana about 1926, his father-in-law, Thomas J. WOODWARD, born in Texas about 1856, former blacksmith known to have died in 1931, and his mother-in-law Gertrude (maiden name unknown), WOODWARD, born about 1870, birthplace uncertain, who was second wife of Thomas J. WOODWARD and mother of Blanche STRAUB.

The 1930 Census for West Monroe, Ouachita Parish, Louisiana shows another family, Pink L. WOODWARD, (misspelled as Puck L. WOODWARD), age 34, born in Texas, occupation railroad switchman. Also shown is Pink L. WOODWARD’s wife, Marie W. WOODWARD, age 30, born in Louisiana. This couple apparently had no children as of 1930. Pink L. WOODWARD apparently went by the name P. Lester WOODWARD. He was born January 22, 1896 and died September 13, 1966. Marie W. WOODWARD was born August 3, 1899 and died November 19, 1976. This couple is buried in Hasley Cemetery, West Monroe, Louisiana.

Pink L. WOODWARD (P. Lester WOODWARD) was the son of Thomas J. WOODWARD and his second wife Gertrude WOODWARD.

I am helping my in-laws with their WOODWARD family research. I would be very grateful if anyone could provide photographs of or any additional information about the people mentioned above, especially with regard to Thomas J. WOODWARD and Gertrude WOODWARD. (I would like to learn Gertrude’s maiden name).

Eric Baker

I am looking for any information on my father's side of the family. His name was Wilbur Wilson Woodward and he was married to Alberta Ruth Sroufe Woodward. He was born in 1907 and died in 1970 in Middletown, Ohio county of Butler. I am trying to do a family tree and so far every one on the Woodward side is deceased and I can't find anyone who can get me any information. So far I have traced my mother's side back to the 1700's, but as for my father I'm having no luck at all. If anyone comes up with some information for me please contact me at roadranger_45042@yahoo.com

I am looking for information about Edward Woodward born 1543. I think he's Christopher Woodward's father but I am not totally positive. Another site had Edward as the son of a Willoughby. So anyone know about this? I'm new to this. I have verified all of the Woodwards on my line to this point.

HARTWELL & WOODARD marriage ca 1750-1760 , perhaps along the eastern VA/NC boarder.

I have Jacob and Sarah Woodard who had a son named Hartwell Woodard. This family went (from Northampton/Hertford Co, NC?) to Marion Co, SC by 1782 where Jacob Woodard died. His son Hartwell Woodard later went to AL.

The name Hartwell is also found in the grandchildren of Hartwell's brother Henry Woodard. I have a "feeling" that Jacob Woodard's wife was one Sarah Hartwell.

Would really appreciate any kind of help.

Thanking you,
Marj
He was my great grandfather. Husband to Ethel and father to Ellen (or Joyce as she was known)and Martha. The church that is mentioned is where I was christened almost 50yrs ago and where my husband and myself were married twenty five years ago.Our son is now the guardian of his 'Death Penny' and our oldest daughter, Angharad is in posession of a Christmas Card sent by Herbert to his youngest daughter Ellen Joyce (my grandmother) for her first Christmas. One of the other names you mention, Ridout, is also familiar. Auntie Annie (Ridout) as we knew her was an eccentric old lady we used to visit as children.Don't know if she was a cousin or aunt to my grandmother I'll find out more. I have old fashioned funeral cards for Ethel and other family members I can give you copies of.

Hi Maggie,

My name is Karen Joyce Selway, nee Gilmore. My father's mother Ellen Joyce's maiden name was Woodward, her father was Herbert and her mother was Ethel. My grandmother lived in Spring Street (now demolished) and my father was born there. Herbert did die in Flanders in 1917 and is buried at Ypres. My sister recently visited his grave, I plan to do this too.My father's cousin has has researched extensively this branch and she may be able to help. She is the daughter of Ethel and Herbert's oldest daughter Martha(who I visited regularly as a child). I have photographs of Ethel, Herbert and their daughters Martha and Ellen Joyce (Joyce is my middle name)I could scan and send some copies if you like). There is also a fabulous website about Cwmbran that may interest you, not sure if it's ok to post links on this message board though, so i'll check before i do.
Coincidentally, I am married to a man who is from Blaina. It's a small ex mining town not twenty miles away.
