Joseph W. Woodworth born 1815, (married Ann Clark 7 Nov 1843) was the father of John Beatty Woodworth, born 1845. Joseph Woodworth, b 29 Dec 1795, (married Phoebe Dowling 26 Aug 1827) was the father of John Wesley Woodworth, b. about 1836. Joseph W. was the nephew of Joseph and Phoebe, his father John being Joseph's brother. There are a lot of Josephs in this line, so it can be confusing. For reference, John is #313 in Jeanette Behan's book, Joseph is #314 and Joseph W. is #774. If you would like more info, just post back.

hello,
Not sure if you are still reviewing posts regarding John B.
I am a descendant of Everett P Woodworth b. 1880, son of John B Woodworth, b 1845, son of Joseph Woodworth, b 1815.

Is the 1815 Joseph the Joseph "W" that's often referred to?

Though I've sorted out some information, I notice there's still a fair bit of confusion over the two Johns (John B and John W (b. 1835), who both have Fathers named Joseph Woodworth. These families appear right next to each other in the 1851 census, so assume they might have lived next to each other, and be in some way related?

Any info that anyone can share to help me sort this out would be most welcome.

Any information

See
http://www.woodworth-ancestors.com
A sampling of resources includes Jeanette Behan's newsletters, and some free downloadable books on Woodworths.

And, if you haven't already, I recommend subscribing to the Rootsweb Woodworth genealogy group.

Marvin "Woody" Woodworth

Walter (b abt 1612) Children

I have spent the past couple of days pouring over the Vital statistics of Scituate , Mass. I am amazed to only find 2 of walter's children in the birth records.According to most online genealogies it appears to be common thought that he had 10 children. I'm wondering where the source material comes from for these other children. Admittedly I have just restarted my research on this line and may have missed a great deal of the discussion on this site. I also have not seen his will, which probably names several of these children. That said I still find it very odd that 8 of his 10 children do not show up in the birth records from Scituate. Any thoughts or help appreciated.

Charlotte Woodworth, daughter of Eleazer Woodworth and Mary Chute, Nova Scotia

A search of public family trees at ancestry.com finds two distinct lines for Charlotte Woodworth, born in Nova Scotia, the daughter of Eleazer Woodworth and Mary Chute. Some show her born in 1791 and married to Henry Graves in Onondaga, N.Y. Others show her born in 1794 and married to John Newcomb Sanford in Nova Scotia. All trace Eleazer Woodworth back to Benjamin Woodworth of Scituate, Mass. But which is the correct birth year and spouse for Charlotte, or was she married twice or were there two Charlottes? My wife can trace her ancestry to the Charlotte Woodworth/Henry Graves marriage, but where does she go from there? Can anyone offer me an answer?

Steve
I am seeking any and all information on my Great Great Grandfather. He married my G. G. Grandmother, Lucinda Collis
on October 16, 1875 in Fairplay, Wisconsin. It states that He came from N. Y. State. His parents were:Charley (or it could be Chancy) and his mother's name is listed as Alice.I have a photo copy from the records but it does not give any clear information. No birthdates from either party. this has been a dead end for my family and we really hope someone out there is able to connect with us.

Today I was in an antique mall in Kennesaw, Georgia. Someone in there had some old pictures, so I started looking through them to see if any had names on them. There were a couple who had names on the backs of them. One is Daisy Woodworth and the other said it was Josephine Obermyer, daughter of Annie Woodworth. I took pictures of these with my camera phone. I would be more than happy to send them to any of you who would want them. I just wish someone would find pictures of my family and do the same! So if you want them, email me, and I will send them to you!

Jenny

I'm sorry, but this is one where I don't have my own original sources. I'll share what I have. Samuel Halstead appears to have been born 18 April 1776 in Dutches, Fishkill, New York. He and Phebe Woodworth were married about 1794 in New York. He died 2 Oct 1851 in Sedyard Town Cayuga.

Phebe's was born 16 July 1781, Fulton County, New York Married about 1794 and died Sept 1856. Note they were about 13 and 18 at marriage, assuming the date is correct.
I believe I got this from the Ancestry World Family Tree Project, Whitley. That work appears to have been well done. Sorry, but I think I found this before becoming more careful about citations. Hope it is helpful in some way.

Info on ElecTA (not ElecTRA) Evans comes from 3 places: 1-"The Woodworth Family of America" (1988) book by Jeanette Woodworth Behan, pgs. 242-243; 2-daughter Electa Permelia Woodworth's Bible, belonging to a relative in Garvin, MI; 3-death cert. of son Ansel Woodworth which gives mother Electa's name as Electa EVANS Woodworth. Several researchers have been unable to discover Electa Evans' parents. Electa Evans was b NY 10 Nov 1798 (no specific birthplace known), marr by Elder Coley, Whitestown, Oneida Co., NY on 15 June 1815 to Hosea Woodworth (not Phelps), died Manlius, Bureau Co., IL on 26 Feb 1881 - bur in cem near my home. Children of Hosea & Electa = James, George, Simon, Daniel, Ansel, Silas, Benjamin, Hosea B., Electa P., Samuel, Jonathan, Orrin, Elizabeth, Augustus, Thomas, and Wm. Births in Whitestown, Western, & Lee, NY. Your ggrandfather may be a cousin or maybe a much younger brother of Electa Evans. Who are the parents of David Hammond Evans? Would Hammond be a mother's maiden name? Am interested in any Evans info.

There is no connection that I can find, unless it occurred prior to 1630 or so. No DNA yet suggests a connection; however, perhaps DNA testing of variations of the Woodworth/Wadsworth spellings will come up with matches across surnames someday. The most probable origin of the Woodworth spelling came as a variation from Woodward as a means of ddistinguishing Walter's family fron other Woodwards in towns (Scituate and Lebanon) packed with Woodwards.
Marvin "Woody" Woodworth, wildwudy@aol.com
