      <description>I did know about the two sons living in Michigan. My husband has met them. They used to have a reunion in the Dexter/Malden, MO area. Which is the area my husband is from.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Have you heard the story about George Snow being found in a wagon as a baby and raised by the Snow family, which is how he got the Snow name?</description>

      <description>I don’t have any facts for you but if Nora Woody is the woman who shows up twice in the 1910 Census for Livingston County, Kentucky as Nora Snow and Nora Woody as implied by this message tread, I believe it is possible that your family ties back to the William Woody-Sarah Parcel Family from Virginia and the Carolinas.  See Woody DNA Project  Group 2.   &lt;a href="http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~woodydnaproject/results.htm" target="_blank"&gt;http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~woodydnapr...&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br&gt;The reason for this belief is given below but will need research to give it credibility. I am from another Woody line (The John Woody Mary Lindley Line-Group 1) so do not plan to do the research but would appreciate your view of this proposal and results of the research if done. &lt;br&gt;James R.  and Addie are in the 1900 Census in Livingston Co., KY and the Crittenden Co., Ky. 1880 Census listed as married 1 year.  There is a Family Tree on ancestry.com that states that James Riley Woody and Mary Adeline (Addie) Gibbens were married on 5 Jan 1879 in Union Co., Ky.&lt;br&gt;Other Woody Families in Crittenden Co. Ky. in the 1880 Census include:  &lt;br&gt; William Woody  75 and his wife Eliza 56 with a  son Wells and a daughter Mary E.  (Note: Wells and his Widowed Mother Eliza are in the 1900 Census in Union Co. KY.)  &lt;br&gt;Nicolas Woody  34 Mary 35 Viola A 13 Emmerrean 10 Months&lt;br&gt;Linville Woody 28 Gusty A 27, Estelley 5 Numon 1  (Note: Family is in Missouri in the 1900 Census.)&lt;br&gt; Going to the 1870 Census William and Eliza live in Caldwell Co, KY and have sons Lafayette 18 (Linville?), Jas 16 (James), Wells 8, and daughters Elizabeth 6, M. E. (Mary E ?) 5. Next door in the Census Record is Nathan Woody (Nicholas?) with wife Lucy  25 and daughter Viola 4. The Tennessee Marriage records show a marriage between Nicholas Woody and L A C Brakefield on 18 Mar 1866 in Robertson Co., TN. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Going to the 1860 Census William  43 and E Woody 31  live in Robertson Co., TN with son N 12 (Nicholas/Nathan?), daughter M J 10 , son L 7 (Lafayette/Linville), son Jas 6 (James), and son W 3 months (Wells?). &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Continuing back to the 1850 Census William 33 and Eliza Woody 18 are living in Overton Co., TN with son Nicholas 3 and daughter Malinda 8 months&lt;br&gt; Now, out of the  lack of real information, comparing the more unique names in the family, Nicholas and Riley , they show in the 1850 Census for a Nicholas Woody age 64 from South Carolina and his son Riley Woody age 20 born in Tennessee. They live in Meigs Co., TN. (In the 1860 Census Nicholas lives in Rhea Co. , TN. and Ryley Woody lives with his family in Ste. Genevieve Co.,, Missouri ) &lt;br&gt;So there are a line of names and places that may be meaningful to your family history. I hope it is of some use.&lt;br&gt;</description>

      <description>The family bible is pretty slim at best. Sam Woody and Minnie Davidson were my great grandparents and we are trying to trace back to the Wooday brothers. We felt pretty sure they came from Ireland by way of England and kept getting stuck on the name Phebe Moore. We had no records of a Phebe Moore. The bible belonged to Sam and Minnie and and at the time lists Betty as Hugh's wife at the time Sequia was born. Thank you for clearing that up for us!!! And indeed it is lots of fun especially when the answers begin coming through!!</description>

      <description>We apparently both have Bruce as a resource. I also have used information from Julie Perkins "The Woody Family of Wise and Parker Counties Texas" posted on Freepages.genealogy..rootsweb 16 Aug 2005. &lt;br&gt;I have had  some research done in Boston and the "Three John" theory that ties us to the Boston Woody's isn't supported by any records.  I have not been able to find out where John Woody husband of Mary Lindley was from.  From Documents I have obtained he signed with a mark so I assume he could not read or write and was not the John Woody who witnessed the will in Pennsylvania. Bruce says Samuel Tolbert Woody b 28 Sep 1899 in Texas died Sept 1978 in Mineral Springs married Minnie Lee Davidson abt 1927 Minnie was born abt 1909 in Wise Co., TX and died 18 Aug 1968 in Mineral Wells. &lt;br&gt;This Woody Family is referred to as Group 1 in the Woody DNA Project &lt;a href="http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~woodydnaproject/results.htm" target="_blank"&gt;http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~woodydnapr...&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br&gt;As you will see below you are a descendant of John Woody and Mary Gowan, John serve in the Revolutionary War, Mary was his second wife.       <description>Hi.  Some of your info re the Woody's is close to mine, which comes from Richard i in England, 1590, thru Boston, and ending up in Wise County Texas.  Sam Woody's old cabin is still there as a historical site.  He and Hannah had a Hugh but born in 1821, in Tenn; married Phebe Moore, Eda, and Betty Morrow.  Sequah is a daughter of Phebe or Betty.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt; We look very close - you can find one lengthy tree "My Woody Limbs and Other Branches" and another "Gorman Spence Family Tree"  on Ancestry...GEHamilton also gives me lots of info..  How far back does the family bible go?  Such fun!</description>

I have reason to believe my ancestors were actually named Wooday and were two brothers from Ireland who were soap makers. Later the name was shortned to Woody. The family migrated to Tenn. and then later to Texas. I understand the family settled in Wise and Tarrant counties. From an old family bible. I have the name Sam T. Woody (born 1900) and married to Minnie Davidson(born 1907) Sam T. was the son of Sequia (Sebe)born 1871 and Harriet(born 1872)  Sequia's parents were Hugh and Betty Woody. Hugh was born in 1813 and Betty was born in 1835. If you have any information that might help me in my search I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. </description>

      <description>John Wright and Nancy Melton had 2 daughters:&lt;br&gt;Eliza b. 1801 and Nancy M. Wright b. 1813. I don't find any evidence of other children.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Nancy M. Wright m. 1st cousin Gutridge T. Lyon in 1837 and they raised their family in Nelson Co, VA.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;In a codicil to his Will dated 30 Sep 1820, John Melton (Eliza's maternal grandfather) states that if she is to marry Buck Woody, she is disinherited. John's Will is proved 14 NOV 1821. She is not mentioned in her gandmother's Will dated 10 Sep 1839. Her grandmother was Mary () Melton. That will was proved 22 Jun 1840.&lt;br&gt;-----&lt;br&gt;Page 142&lt;br&gt;(codicil)&lt;br&gt;I John Melton of Nelson County do make the following codicil to my will which is to be taken as part thereof. It is my wish and I do hereby direct, that in case my grand daughter Eliza Wright, the daughter of my daughter Nancy Wright dec’d should intermarry with William W. Woody (now of Nelson/commonly called Buck Woody, she shall not be entitled to any part of my estate and I direct that the part which would have fallen to her should be given to her sister Nancy M. Wright.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Eliza Wright did marry William W. "Buck" Woody in 1821 in Madison County, Alabama. Her father and stepmother, John Wright and Frances Hamblet [Hamlet] were living there at that time. She did not inherit as far I can tell.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Eliza and Buck Woody &lt;br&gt;possible ch:&lt;br&gt;John H. Woody b. 1824&lt;br&gt;male b. 1826&lt;br&gt;Francis M. Woody b. 1827&lt;br&gt;William W. Woody b. 1829&lt;br&gt;Robert A. Woody b. 1836&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Eliza (Wright) and William W. Woody "Buck" were found:&lt;br&gt;marriage 26 Dec 1821 Madison Co, AL&lt;br&gt;1830 Census Madison Co, AL&lt;br&gt;1840 Census Itawamba Co, AL&lt;br&gt;1850 Census Monroe Co, MS&lt;br&gt;then possibly 1880 Census Nelson Co, VA I believe this is where I picked up the child Robert A. Woody.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I am finding that possibly Eliza and Buck moved back to Nelson Co, VA in their older years to live with one of their children. Not sure if this is the same couple or not.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The other children are found across into MS.&lt;br&gt;John H. Woody is found in 1850 Census in Tippah Co, MS&lt;br&gt;William W. Woody (b. 18290 is found in 1860 Census inBolivar Co, MS&lt;br&gt;Francis M. Woody is found in 1870 Census in Bolivar Co, MS&lt;br&gt;and Robert A. Woody is found in 1880 Census in Nelson Co, VA with an Elizabeth and William Woody who are the right age to be the parents shown above.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I do not find John Wright and Frances Hamblet in the census records in AL but maybe I didn't look in the right places. There is mention in a letter from Polly S. (Melton) Lyon to her sons in March 1833 of a letter from John Wright of AL. Polly is Nancy (Melton) Wright's sister and Nancy M. and Eliza Wright's aunt.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Any help with this family will be appreciated!&lt;br&gt;</description>

      <description>I recently found out that my gr grandmother had another first name that I had dismissed before.  &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Her parents were William Howard Woody b.9 Sep 1859 Crawford Co, IL &amp;amp; Nancy Candacie Stout.  Wm's parents were Oliver Perry Woody b. Mar 1835 IN; d. bet 1920-1930 Lincoln Co, OK. Wm and family lived in Okanogan Co, WA; Canyon Co, ID; and Logan Co, OK.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Sarah Alice Gertrude Woody was b. 13 Sep 1883 Cloverdale, Kansas.  She married Lafayette "Charles" Lovelace 21 June 1900 Clove, Okanogan, WA.  Between 1901 &amp;amp; 1903 they moved to Minidoka Co, ID. By 1905 "Alice" Lovelace married Frederick Chriswell.  She disappeared after having a stillborn baby girl in 1910 Caldwell, Canyon, ID.  No one in the family heard from her again. She had two sons by her first husband and four children by her second.  She left all her kids with her husbands.  I would love to be able to find out what happened to her.</description>

      <description>Thank you Dave.  I think you are right on all points.  I wonder if Buck Woody was a scoundrel or a cad?  Or was he wealthy and therefore, Eliza would not need the inheritance as much as her sister, Nancy?  We will probably just have to wonder on that one.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Robert Grant and I have corresponded in the past, before I knew that Eliza had married Buck Woody.  He said that Eliza's father, John Wright and 2nd wife, Frances Hamlett, sold their property in Nelson Co, VA in 1820 and moved away, but he didn't know where.  I wonder if they also moved to Madison Co, AL?</description>

      <description>Hi Martha,&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Your post is interesting. I guess Buck was not really all that popular with Mr. Melton.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Although I can't find William W. Woody after the 1850 Monroe Co., MS census, I do have quite a bit about his two sons.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;With regard to the William Woody that married Edith Robertson, I think that the Bible and Rev. War Pension application of Edith's father Hugh have enough info to preclude the possibility that this William was the same person as William W. Woody. This William is almost surely the same William that you note in the 1870 &amp;amp; 1880 Nelson Co., VA censuses, except that his second wife was enumerated as Elizabeth. William died 24 Feb 1881 in Nelson &amp;amp; his death record names Henry &amp;amp; Elizabeth Woody as his parents.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I have not been able to find out what happened to Eliza's parents, but there were several John Wrights in early Madison Co., AL. Two folks that might know are Lillian H. Herrin  &amp;amp; Robert N. Grant. Woody also know as Buck Woody, of Nelson Co, VA, she would not inherit anything from his estate.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;She married Buck Woody and did not inherit anything.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;William W. and Eliza (Wright) Woody are shown in the 1850 census in Madison Co, AL and in Monroe Co, MS in 1860.  I don't find them after that unless they have moved back to Nelson Co, VA.  There are William and Eliza Woody shown there in 1870 and 1880.  ANyone know if this is them?&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Was William W. Woody married to an Edith Robertson prior to marrying Eliza Wright?&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Did Eliza move to Madison Co, AL with her father and step mother?       <description>Looking to build info on my family tree. My father and mother are Tim and Jacque Woody currently in Anchorage, AK, previously in Santa Fe, NM and Phoenix, AZ area.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Looking to see if anyone can tie in my grandparents, Andrew Archie Woody (B 1908-D 1993), Evelyn Carmelita Woody (maiden: Blake) of the Kansas City/St Joseph Missouri area.&lt;br&gt;Mothers parents: Jack Phares (B late-30s-D 2008) and Judyth Phares (Maiden: Nousley) of the Phoenix, AZ area.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Im lost beyond my grandparents, save for passed on family knowledge we may have a connection way back to Daniel Boone's sister. If anyone can send me info on either the Phares or Woody's I'd appreciate it.</description>

Hope it is what you are looking for.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Benjamin Woody1&lt;br&gt;b. circa 1761, d. 9 November 1836&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Note*: Summary of the evidence for the sons of Benjamin Woody: The marriage records for Austin &amp;amp; Hawkins Woody name their father as Benjamin. The death record of John names Benjamin &amp;amp; Martha as his parents. Martha Woody, age 90, was living in Austin/Augustine's home in the 1850 census. Martha was the widow of Benjamin. Fleming provided security for John's marriage bond. Circumstantial association: Samuel was on 1830 Albemarle census with Austin, John &amp;amp; Hawkins. Samuel went to Kanawha Co. with Hawkins &amp;amp; Fleming.&lt;br&gt;Birth*: circa 1761, VA1&lt;br&gt;Event-Misc: May 1777, Fluvanna Co., VA, Petition: Benjamin Woody signed a petition to not disolve the county of Fluvanna. Amnog others: Daniel Tilman, Anthony, John M. &amp;amp; William Haden, Wm &amp;amp; Thomas Moody,5&lt;br&gt;Marriage*: 5 February 1785, Fluvanna Co., VA, Principal=Martha Kirby1&lt;br&gt;Event-Misc: 23 October 1788, Buckingham Co., VA, Petition: Inhabitants of Buckingham asking that the Town for the inspection of tobacco be established on Nicholas Cabell's land in Amherst Co., just below the mouth of Swann Creek on the noth side of the James River. Among the signers were: Henry Woodey, Benjamin Wooddy &amp;amp; Samuel Wooddey.6&lt;br&gt;Event-Misc*: between 1789 and 1796, Buckingham Co., VA, Personal Property Tax: Benjamin Woody was taxed every year except 1793 &amp;amp; 1794, so he was born before 1768. He seems to have moved to Amherst by 1797 and to Nelson by 1814. These dates fit well with the data in the pension application of Martha Kirby Woody, the widow of Benjamin Woody, Rev.
