HI, Im sorry but as of yet I dont have any thing much that can help you find out more about Francis. She is probably related in some way to my Wookeys as Blagdon isnt far from where they were at that time. The furthest I have got back to is my GGGG Grandfather Samuel Wookey who we think was born around 1789 ish....He married Hannah Carpenter in 1818 and they lived in East Harptree and later Radstock. There are several 'Wookey' Families in this area around this time who I think may possibly have been Samuels siblings but as yet I have no proof as I cant find Samuels parents any where. Im sorry I cant help you more, but I will keep you in mind if any thing comes up about her, good luck with your search
When I posted that message I literally had NOTHING about the Smiths and Wookeys. Since then I have found a mountain if data. Mary Ann's parents came to the US with all but two of their children several years before Mary Ann and Edwin arrived. From Wisconsin the family spready out with one sister coming to California in 1862. Please Email me at fritzgla@winfirst.com for more information. I am tickled to hear from one of Mary Louise's descendants. I know we visited part of the family in Anatone many years ago. It would be nice to connect up again.

My great great grandmother was Mary Ann WOOKEY, married to Edwin SMITH, born 15 Jul 1823, Paulton, Harptree, Somerset, England, died 1877, Marion County, Oregon. She was born 26 November 1819 in England, died 9 Nov 1900. I show she had 4 children: Humphrey, Mary Louise, Sarah and William. Her daughter, Mary Louise, born 17 Feb 1854 in Wisconsin, died 5 Jan 1941 in Anatone, Asotin County, Washington, is my great grandmother, married Willis Eugene BENEDICT, born 15 Apr 1853 in New York, died 15 Jul 1918, in about 1880. Mary Ann and Willis had 7 children: Leo Clifford, Arvilla May, Louis Ellis, Tina F., Jesse Agnes, Belle E. and Arthur Bryant. Arthur Bryant is my grandfather, born 11 May 1894 in Anatone, Asotin County, Washington, died 27 Jul 1963 in Anatone, Asotin County, Washington. He married Stella HAMILTON, born 5 Dec 1891 in Florence, Marion County, Kansas, died 26 May 1990 in Clarkston, Asotin County, Washington, on 29 Ju 1919. Arthur and Stella had three sons, Arthur Kenneth, Reed Lawrence and Harold Edison. Harold Edison is my father, born 15 Nov 1926 in Flora, Wallowa County, Oregon, died 30 Sep 2004 in Kellogg, Shoshone County, Idaho. He married my mother, Dorothy Elizabeth WECHSLER, born 23 Feb 1917 in Manila, Philippine Islands (where her U.S. citizen father was stationed), died 10 Mar 1990 in Bothell, Snohomish County, Washington, on 2 Jun 1949 in Colfax, Whitman County, Washington. There's tons more, but I figured this was an awful lot to take in for just a first go. Please let me know if this is helpful and whether you'd like more.

Hiya,
Thanks for the reply to my post. I am a little confused though....I dont think your information and mine match.
I have my line back to a Samuel Wookey (c1788) who married a Hannah Carpenter in 1818. They had many children, one of whome was Richard Wookey....my GG grandfather. None of Samuel and Hannah's children were called Ann. I have a Anna Maria Wookey....but no just Ann's in my tree at all. They did have a son Jacob.....but he married first Jane Mitchell and again to Eliza Pointing, I have both of the certs.
I have documentation to prove my line as far back as Samuel and Hannah and will hapilly share any thing that I can that would be of any help to you.

Rachel

I am related through their daughter Ann Wookey who married Zachariah Callow & moved to Cardiff. She married again later to become Ann Giddy.

Note you & i have different first name of father - i have reseached it again & i apear to be correct...How did you come by your information?
I also didn't know sibbling names of Ann. So you have filled a gap in my research...thanks.

I do know there are other people who are related to the Wookeys around.

Good luck with your search.

My great-great grandmother, Mary Ann Wookey, was born in East Harptree. She and her husband Edwin Smith and her parents, George and Bridgett Wookey, came to America in the early 1850's. I believe George and Bridgett ended up in Union Grove, Whiteside County, Illinois. After George died in 1854 Bridgett lived with Mary Ann and her husband Edwin Smith in Wisconsin. Bridgett died in May, 1880 and Mary Ann and Edwin moved to Oregon. I have been trying to get all of the information correct on George and Bridgett's children. If you are interested in what I have found let me know. The interesting thing is that in 1850 there was just one Wookey in the census, Charlotte. I think she may have been a child of George and Bridgett as she was living in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where Mary Ann and Edwin lived for a short time.

Hello Chris, I was just wondering how you were getting on with your research on the Wookey family name? My Great grandmother was Emily Augusta Wookey, she was born in Wales but her Wookey line was originally from Somerset (Radstock, East Harptree and Hinton Blewit) My grandmother (Emily's Daughter) is still with us aged 95 and recalls her mother and stories of the Wookeys quite well. There is something about this Wookey family that seems to have me hooked! more so than the rest of my family history.....cant explain why though! I would love to hear from you in connection with the Wookeys if you are still searching the history.
Rachel

Rachelandcarl@aol.com

I have my Samuels marriage but as it was before marriage certs and there is no fathers name on the church records i'm still stuck! I have been told that the church records of West Harptree contain many Wookeys but I have not yet been able to look for myself, I have tried to find out if they are in Taunton or Bristol records office but with no luck yet.Good luck with your search, sorry I cant help more.

The name is unique enough so Ann and Samuel are likely related somehow. You said before that you didn't know Samuel's parents. Has that changed? If you can just give me his parents' names I can go off and try to find a connection. Otherwise, thanks anyways and good luck in the rest of your research!

Hiya, Thanks for getting in touch about the Wookeys. I posted that quite some time ago and had forgotten about it! I am still doing my family history two years later though! As far as the Wookeys go I am still a bit stuck. I had thought my Samuel was born in East Harptree but have since found other things where he has listed his birth place as Camely or Hinton Blewitt.....and I cant seem to get any thing that goes further than that. There are quite a lot of Wookey families in East/west Harptree and Hinton Blewitt and Camely are all close so I am sure they all link some where......I wouldnt be suprised if Samuel and your Ann are linked some how. I am sorry I cant help more than that......if you want any more information on any Wookeys I am happy to share what I have.

Hiya, I am researching my family tree but am pretty new to this so would love any help available!

My Great grandmother was Emily Augusta Wookey 1886...

She had a brother Richard Albert Wookey 1885

Her father was Richard Wookey 1826 of East Harptree, somerset

his siblings were Jacob Wookey, Bethyea Wookey, William Wookey, Anna Maria Wookey, Hannah Maria Wookey, Eliza Wookey and Lavinia Wookey.

These were all children of Samuel Wookey born 1790 in East Harptree, Somerset who later married Hannah Carpenter.

I have not yet managed to get any further back than Samuel Wookey but there seem to be a lot of Wookeys around Shipham, Axebridge, Cheddar, East and West Harptree and Wookey. I know this area pretty well and these places are all fairly close....I am sure there must be a link somewhere!

I would love to hear from any one who has any info on the Wookeys............My E mail address is Rachelandcarl@aol.com

Chris,

My GGGF was John Wookey. He came to America in 1849 on a ship named Cosms with his father, John Wookey. I have been told that John, the younger, was born in Somerset. Any possibility of him being one of the brothers in your tree?

Jim
