In reply to your Thomas Wool born Upwell 1796. unfortunately I have no record of him. I have found him on FamilySearch.org as marrying Mary Ann Tapp 25th July 1831.
We may be related through our ancestors though.
My line is from Upwell - Moses Wool buried at Upwell 8.4.1745 m Jane 21.4.1733. Moses father I beliece was John Wool.
Please let me know if you do find a connection. I have found this link for you too look at and again I cannot find your Thomas.

He is from exact same areas Upwell, Cambridgeshire, England

He is in my direct line. I am trying to trace any history to him and his birth, family and parents.
I believe he married a Mary Ann Tapp 1809 -1864

James'surname was Wooll son of William Wooll b 1755 and Margaret Bransfield. James was born in 1776 in Cork, Ireland and died 1843 in Maitland, Australia. He married Mary O'Connell (1772- 12 December 1858)in 1806 in Ballycronen, Tipparary,Ireland. I have Frances, Margaret b 1812, Ellen b 1818, James b 1920, Jane b 1820 and Stephen b 1821 as their children.

James was transported to NSW 1825, Mary and 4 children sailed later as "free" immigrants. They were parents of Frances Wool Hickey who married John Hickey (Jnr) in 1836.
James was pardoned in 1834. Unable to find where James and Mary came from ?Ireland.

The correspondence on the "Kingston letters from Sarah" that you had with Al Wooll in 1999 has now been passed down to me. I have documented much information found in the letters and would like to discuss it with you. I know about Sarah who married John Wayman but I want to know more about her mother who was Kingston's sister (or was she?).

Uglia/Wool, NY and MASS

I have been looking for info on my maternal grandmother's family for ages, with scant little information to go on. I had heard that the family name was "Wool", and was told that Wool was the English translation for Uglia (when I looked it up in a translator, however, it said "lane" was the correct word).

Anyway, here's how it stacks up so far... My grandmother's maiden name was Rose Lacerra. She was born in 1916, one of 11 children of James and Rose (Wool) Lacerra.

Rose Wool married James sometime in the early 1890s, not long after he migrated from Naples. Rose gave birth to their first child, Frances, in 1895, I believe. As far as I'm aware and according to census docs, Rose Wool was born around 1870. I have no idea who her parents were, and if she had any siblings.

In 1910, the family was living in Great Barrington, MA, where James was a "junkman". By 1920, they had a lot more kids, and had returned to Mount Vernon, NY. Rose would die a few years later from cancer, and the minor children were split up among the families of their older, married siblings.

It has been very difficult to find much (if anything) on the Uglia/Wool family. It's made even more difficult because of the lost 1890 census documents, which I'm sure would've been a treasure trove of information.

I would be most grateful for any light anyone may be able to shed on this branch of the family tree.

Jane Wool born in Cork 1850 came to Australia probably on the White Star 1867 with her sister and possibly her mother Ann. Father's name was Bartholomew and he was a carpenter. Jane married Robert Boyd a miner at Morses Creek 1869 and died in St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne 1916.
Can anyone fill in the time before she came to Australia?

To all of you cousins out there researching the Wool family:
My mother is a Wool -- the daughter of John Donald Wool, Sr., who was the son of James Adam Wool, who was the son of Christian Wool.
I have a LOT of names and dates for the Wool family in Lycoming County, PA, including the family patriarch, Christian Wool, and his wife, Caroline Axman (and of her family, too!)
I also have a portrait of Christian and Caroline (Axman) Wool's family, including their children Frances, John, Henry, Elizabeth, Ferdinand, Katherine, Margaret, James, Mable, and Frank.

George Christopher Wool married Esther Louise Fuller. He lived in Florida most of his adult life and died there in the mid 1980's. He and Esther divorced and he remarried. Her name is unknown. George and Esther's children: 1. Esther Wool (now lives in Hawaii), Linda Wool (now lives in Wyoming) and George Gary Wool (now lives in Texas). We know that Valentine wasn't born in TN since we have his citizenship document that clearly shows he was from Saarbruck, Prussia.

Henry is listed on another family's census report as a Laborer. This family was in a neighboring town in the same county and state as his regular residence:

This line from the census report indicates that Henry's father was born in Germany and his mother was born in TN. (as we suspected)

Some of these kids changed their name to Woll.

I looked at the list of children born to Henry & Cora Wool, they are the exact names of my mother's sisters and brothers, my mother's name was Virginia, she passed away in 1979 at the age of 65, I believe she would have been born around 1914. She married Weldon Francis Shaffer and had 5 children, Ronald J., Patricia A., Weldon F. Jr, Sherry A. and myself. Will you please give me what information you have. I am almost sure that we are talking about the same family. I believe all of them are deceased now, please let me know.

Christian Wool, born 1823, Penna, Pennsylvania, married Carolina and had the following children:

Frances Wool, born 1866
John H Wool, born 1867
Henry J Wool, born 1869
Lizzie Wool, born 1872
Ferdinand Wool, born 1874
Kate Wool, born 1876
Maggie Wool, born 1877
James A Wool, born 1880

At the time of the 1880 Census, the family were at Limestone, Lycoming, Pennsylvania. Christian's occupation is that of Farmer.

John H Wool married Katie and had the following children:
Helen, Eugene, Guy, Harvey J, Lester S, Hazel and Jerome.

Henry J Wool married Cora and had the following children:

Cora, born 1894
Henry, born 1896
Katherine, born 1898
Walter, born 1900
Mary, born 1902
Frank, born 1904
Raymond, born 1906
Helen, born 1908

I do not have your mother ??? born post 1910 Census ?

I am doing a world wide One Name Study of Wool & all variants and may be able to help you.

I have a Jacob Wool, born in 1819 in Indiana and still in Indiana in Carr Co; during the 1850 Census. So far have only found two children, Jacob, born 1846 and Amanda, born 1861 (there must have been others!) Jacob married Minnie and, on the 1880 Census is noted as being at Laconia, Desha, Arkansas; his occupation is given as Shoemaker. They had Charlie, John and Jacob Wool.

Sorry I can't give you anymore, but will pass on anything I do find with this family.

There might be a way. You should contact the town historian for Chazy - her name is Marie Gennett. Go to the GenWeb - Clinton County NY. There's info on those pages as to who's town historian for each town in Chazy. Also, go to the Queries and put out a message. Third, there is a Museum - the Alice Miner Museum in Chazy - perhaps Marie Gennett can give you an addres or phone number and there might be something there. Louisa died in Plattsburgh (just 7 miles down the road from Chazy). Perhaps the Town Historian there can help. Good luck. Let me know how you make out. e-mail me direct - sharon.sestak@att.net
