Hello

I am interested in the Jonathan and Ann as well. One of my lines is from one of Ann's brothers (Jonathan). I am trying to work out if Jonathan had married earlier before he married Ann, and if they had a son Jonathan Henry Wooler

Cheers

Jenny
Wooler / Wouller of Barking, London

I am seeking information on the family of an Elizabeth Wouller of Barking, London who married in 1614, in Stepney, Middlesex to Col. William Willoughby. Elizabeth mentioned two sisters in her will, Anne, wife of William Griffin, and Jane Hammond. I believe the sister Anne is the Anne Woolner who married about 1640 in Stepney, Middlesex to John Carnaby and that she was the Anne Carnaby who married about 1645 also in Stepney to William Griffin. I have found a PCC will for a John Wouller of London dated about 1617 (as I recall). I haven't examined this will yet. I'm told by a friend who has seen the will that this will mentions various relatives of the testator. In any case, the name Wooler/Wouller/Woller is extremely rare. Any help would be much appreciated. Sincerely, Douglas Richardson

Dear Shelley,

I have seen references to Margaret Wooler on the internet many times regarding her tie to the Bronte Family. I have managed to trace my Wooler line back to the 1500's, but Margaret is not directly in it. However, as you say, I don't doubt there is a tie somewhere. I will check through my files and see if there is any reference to her in the information I have and contact you again.
Regards, Nicola

Hi Nicola
I am researching a woman called Margaret Wooler, 1792 - 1885. She was head mistress of a school at Roe Head, Dewsbury. Emily Bronte attended this school.
My sister and I were in Haworth, Yorkshire and were wandering around the Bronte Museum to come across a pic of Margaret (Our Mom's family "Bailey" came from this area), anyway we were both awestruck when we saw the pic as Margaret was the spitting image of our Mom in later years.
I was hoping that you may have more information about Margaret. It is possible that somewhere in her lineage she may be related. Stranger things have happened.
Thanks
Dear Sarah,
Thanks for replying, since posting my original letter I have managed to trace the Woolers back to the 1300's when they were based in the Leeds, Kildwick and Waddington areas, so we will no doubt interlink at some point. A branch of the Family also moved to Toxteth in Liverpool, then on to Canada, although I know little about them. My G Uncle also moved to the Isle Of Man! I have loads of information I can share, but we need to work out where we 'connect'. I can send you a copy of my tree back to about 1500 for you to look at to work out where you fit in if you would like? Please feel free to contact me directly with your details and I will post details to you.
Regards Nicola

Wooler of Wolsingham

I am really keen to prove the link between Jonathan Wooler and his Children, by his second marriage, Caroline, Lavinia, Napoleon Washington (b.1818), Ellen, Lafayette and Thomas Koscuisko.

Jonathan Wooler, baptised 30th July 1774, of Crouch End, Hornsea, near London. He married at St Lukes, Old Street 10 Nov 1811. Died, Kew, 29th Oct 1853.

The marriage on 10th Nov 1811 was to Ann, eldest daughter of George Wooler esquire of Faunlees and sister of George Darnell Wooler. She died in Exeter 30th Nov 1812 aged 23 at or about the same time as giving birth to a son, Thomas Wooler. Thomas Wooler died 25th Dec 1812, buried 1812, Wolsingham.

The marriage to Ann is well documented, I have copies of two separate Wooler Pedigrees, one dating back to Rowland Wooler of Stanhope, County Durham, buried 21st Jan 1694 and the other is titled “Pedigree of Wooler of Wolsingham and starts with George Wooler of Frosterly c1700.

I have been passed this information which was collated by a Great Aunt. The immediate tree is traceable back to the generation of Caroline, Lavinia, Napoleon Washington(b.1818), Ellen, Lafayette and Thomas Koscuisko who were born around the turn of the 18th century. My information has their father as Jonathan Wooler, baptised 30th July 1774, of Crouch End, Hornsea through his second marriage to Marry Ann.

My immediate family tree is descended from Thomas Koscuisko.

Has anyone come across this info before? I would be really interested if anyone out there has any evidence of this?
Hello Alan,
I've just picked up your message.
My husband is closely related to John and Charles Wooler of motorbike fame - the bike being called the Flying Banana! His grandmother, Jane Emily Saddington was their sister. We have done a lot of research into the family and are in touch with people who have done even more. The link with Wooler in Northumberland and the motorbike Wooler's is not proven. We can go back to the amazingly named brothers Napeoleon Washington, Lafayette Cartwright, and Thomas Kosckiuszo Wooler but no further than their father Jonothan Wooler Gentleman. . . . well not that we can prove anyway although there are hints . . . Why don't you send me an email and we can exchange information?

Hi Alan

How are you? Wish there was a place in cyberspace where we could all find these things out but it doesn't always work like that unfortunately.Until you start with yourself and work back through the generations and get some names, dates and places it's not possible to link things up. I'm stuck in London with my Woollers, around 1790-1800 with two brothers, Thomas and Samuel born around then who were literate so I guess from a family who were somewhat successful, only problem was my ggg g'father Samuel got into trouble and sent to Botany Bay!
No doubt we all go back to the same place but when and how are the questions.
Good luck & contact me if you think I can help you further.
Sue McCarthy
Sydney

Hi Jill
There are two William Woollers who might be of the right vintage, they both married but I don't have family information. I've sent an email to what I think is your address with more information on them. Please reply directly or via this board.
Sue McCarthy

I'm researching the Wooller family in Australia who are descendants of a Samuel Wooller, convict, b c 1802 in London
Have you found out any more about the earlier London Woollers? I think the name is a northern one, and rare as it is, there can't have been many Woollers around in London.
