Hello,
I am a decendant of George and Jane (Grey) Wooten, they are my great-great grandparents. My father did research on his line in the 80's and I have taken over the quest. I have also hit a dead end with them. Since your message is many years old, I was wondering if you have discovered anything new.
Thank you for your time,
Cindy Wooten

Wooton in Washington County Va

I'm looking for any information on William Turner Wooton that was a potter/farmer in Washington County Va. He was married to Nancy(nannie) Pippin. They are my great-grandparents. I have a census record that shows him living with his older brother, James. His father was John Thomas, I think. He had several brothers and sisters, but someone tells me they went to Iowa. My grandmother used to tell me that her oldest sister, Volney, was born in Iowa (William Turners daughter). Trying to find out why there is an Iowa connection. Some family stories say that W. T. Wooton's mother was Indian, but having a hard time with that one. Brothers and sister of William Turner are John W., James A., Jahu, Melville, Frances Catherine, Mary E., Emmie, Jacob, Wesley. If anyone has any information on this family or anything on the Wooton's in Iowa, I'd really appreciate it.

I am searching for some information about my fathers side of the family. I have very little information but here is what I do have:
My Father - Rex Wooten Jr. DOB 20 Jan 1944
Grandparents - Rex Wooten and Hattie Mae Campbell
Great Grandparents on fathers side - Willie Wooton and Attie Caudill

Other names I have been given or found were Rufus Wooton who would have been my grandfathers brother

Cotton Wooton
Clairborne H Wooton

The only place I am familiar with or remember hearing my parents refer to was Hazard county.

Also I have been told that I have native american on my grandmothers side (Hattie Mae Campbell) but i cannot find enough information on her to add to the family tree.

Recently my mother discovered a site that traced some Wooton's to the Cherokee Native American's, can anyone confirm or deny this?

Thanks in advance

Andrew Wooten

I am trying to help my son locate information about his father's family. Does anyone have any information on the folllowing Wooton family names: Willie Wooton (GGF), Attie Wooton (GGM), Rex Wooton (born approximately 1918) - My son's grandfather. His grandfather also changed the spelling of their last name to Wooten at some point prior to my ex-husband's birth as his birth certificate lists the spelling as "Wooten". Rufus Wooton, Cleo Wooton, Opal Wooton, Hazel Wooton, Amiel Wooton, Connie Wooton, Clayborn Wooton, Cotton Wooton. I know that Attie died in 1984.

He is trying to find out information about his grandfather and his grandmother (Hattie Mae Campbell from Spartanburg, SC area). His dad had told him over the years that his family has some Native American heritage. My son is trying to find out if it is on the Wooton side or if it on the Campbell side.

Thank you for any assistance.

William Wooton, brother Thomas of Hereford Cty, England, 1895

Hanford Journal
Hanford, Kings Co., California
Tuesday, 20 AUGUST 1895
************************************

THE WOOTTEN ESTATE --
The Property Goes to the Brother Who Resides in England --

The following Associated Press dispatch from Fresno, under the date of Aug. 12th, says:
The final settlement of the WOOTTON [spelled 2 ways] case as to the civil proceedings was made by Judge Risley today. William WOOTTON, the missing Reedly rancher, disappeared Feb. 1, 1893. After all efforts to trace him had been exhausted, his brother, Thomas, of Hereford County, England, applied to the Superior Court of this county [Fresno] for the possession of the estate as next of kin. William WOOTTON having been declared legally dead, and no contestant appearing, Judge Risley today granted to Thomas WOOTTON possession of the ranch held by his brother, containing 3700 acres, of which 80 acres are in Tulare county, and the remainder in and around Reedley, this county. The value of the property is $50,000. The $3500 belonging to William WOOTTON, which passed into the hands of the Public Administrator, at the time of the old rancher's disappearance, was ordered by Judge Risley to be disposed of as follows:
$1400 to the Public Administrator and $2100 to the latter's legal representatives. Thomas WOOTTON is to pay his own legal expenses.
Lori, are you still working on the Wooton--Wooten family? I have not done too much as I have run out of leads. I have the information on James Wooton. That was a lot of information you shared. Thanks so much.
Just cannot seem to find much on John Wooton--James' father. I found he supposedly was in Tennessee. The census has that some of the children were born there.
Mona Wooten

My name is Mona Wooten and I think the John Wooton Lori and I are looking into was born about 1789. So I doubt that he could be your grandfather. There is a separate group of Wooton's who moved to Kentucky from N.C. My husband's side of the family is from West Fork, AR., out of Tennessee. Just cannot find much information on him.
Mona Wooten

Can't find death of Mary Ellen Wootten

My g gradmother was born in London, England in June of 1886 her name is Mary Ellen Wootten (maiden name is Gooding).
She was married to Edward Wootten on Aug 4th, 1890. Edward was a Hansom cab driver in the early 1800's to 1907.
My Mom was young when her grandmother (Mary) died & says she thinks it was in 1932, before WWII started. But can't find her listed in the census or death records.
My Mom thinks she was buried in East Finchley cemetary. Can anyone help me on how to go about finding her actual death date? Wondering if it was ever registered.

Thanks, Tracey

Hi,
Just saw your posting of July, 2006, and thought you might be interested in the following from Early Settlers of Lee Co., VA, 1977, Vol.II by Hattie Muncy Bales:
"Reuben Bowen was in Lee County, Virginia before March 1834, where on March 1st of this year he and his son James, both of Lee County, purchased 100 acres on Wallens Creek, or along the foot of Wallens Ridge on the South side, from Allen H. Milam and Atha his wife, for $70. The deed states Reuben Sr. and James Bowen, also his heirs and legal representatives, Reuben and James Bowen his son and their heirs. . . (DBK 6-537). And a short time prior to his death, Reuben Bowen (Boan) made a deed to Obadiah Ferguson and his son Reuben Ferguson for the above tract of land for one dollar, April 23, 1839 (DBK 8-162). No further mention or James or other heirs."
Mrs. Bales gives no further information about James Bowen but does about Jesse Bowen and also about Sarah (Hicks) Bowen's application for Revolutionary War widow's pension. I would be glad to share if you're interested.
My interest is Elizabeth Bowen, daughter of Reuben Bowen, who married Obadiah Ferguson. Their son, Reuben Bowen Ferguson, was born the same year that Reuben Bowen died, 1839.
Their son, Reuben Bowen Ferguson, was born the same year that Reuben Bowen died, 1839.
