Re: House of Worth, Washfield, Devon

I live at Worth House (since 2001)and you would be most welcome to visit whenever is convenient. The old medieval manor house was relegated to servants quarters and a new front added in 1791 and the whole lot was demolished in about 1934 and the present house built then. It has no historical merit and was rather badly built with a very strange design. Some of the trees in the garden are a few hundred years old.

No I dont have pictures of the House as such, it is gated and access is not allowed, however I do have pictures from Google.

Miss Anna Mae Worth, age 17, died the morning of 9 Dec at an early hour, at her home at 142 Drysdale in Jacksonville FL, after an illness of several months. She was a popular employee of the Western Union. Unnamed relatives accompanied her to Frostproof, Polk co FL for burial, (and according to Findagrave at Silver Hill Cemetery).

Evan is HoH in the 1850, 1860 & 1870 Logan Co., IL Censuses. He married Lorinda Douglass, 7 Dec, 1837, Morgan Co., IL. I have not located him in 1840.

I have the following children for Evan & Lorinda, all b. IL: Otha/Othey, abt. 1840; James, abt. 1842; Evan, Jr, abt. 1845; Charles, abt. 1849; Willet, abt. 1855.

Otha married Parthena M. KELSO; James married Josephine J. GARDNER; Evan, Jr. married Lucretia PENNY; Charles married Ellen MARTIN; Willet married Nancy E. WORTH.

I am trying to connect this family to my gg-grandfather, Richard Worth HEDRICKS, b. 1859, KY or IN. Richard married Lucy MAHONEY, 1879 in Trimble Co., KY. They named one of their sons Richard Other (pronounced O' thur) and I think that is probably a variation of Oatha. Lucy (Mahoney) HEDRICKS' great-niece (Eleanor) married Evan WORTH,Sr.'s great-grandson (Floyd WORTH).

Any help in locating where in KY that Evan WORTH, Sr. was born would be appreciated.

Charles and Sarah are my husbands 2 great grandparents.Apart from Richard and Emily two children were born in NZ Zealandia 1858-1910 and Charles Frederick 1863-1941. Charles was a member of the Wellington City Council from 1889 to 1893. He was contractor for the plastering decorations at Govt House. I am descended from Wm. Jenkins Worth's brother, Gorham Aiken Worth of New York. Both Wm. Jenkins Worth and Gorham Aiken Worth were the sons of Thomas Worth of Nantucket, who moved the family to Hudson, NY after the British Navy burned down their whaling base on Nantucket in 1775.

I am looking for the ancestors of my great great grandfather, James Worth who was christened in Manchester Cathedral, I think about 1793ish. He, or his father, reputedly took part in the Napoleonic Wars. James was married to Mary Widdows, I believe, and had three or four children, Sophia (maybe), John(my great grandfather) and Jesse and James. On John's wedding certificate James' occupation is that of 'Gentleman'. (John was married to Elizabeth Blake in 1857.) I would be interested in hearing from anyone with any connection to this family or if anyone has any websites where soldiers in the Napoleonic war are listed.

Grandpa Worth was the second husband of my Grandmother Pearl ada Morris. Although my step grandfather, he raised me since I was 5 years old until he died -- when I was a Junior in High school
He was born 5 july 1893 and died 28 Nov 1963. It believed he was born in Jasonville Indiana.

I understand he was raised by his Aunt Jane and Squire according to family legend but do not know when or why.

Right now I show his father as Richard W Worth And mother as Laura Buckallew. If richard is his father then his grandfather is Richard W worth D1833 and Grandmother Julia W worth 1835 but do not know her maiden name.
Aany knowledge, help, guidance or direction would b ehelpful I am willing to travel to his hometown but dont quite know who to talk to since I am very new at this

Wondering if you were able to discover more details about your gg-grandfather, James Worth? I am puzzled about your statement "..he was born in Kentucky around 1815". I found James, age 27, b. Illinois; Josephine, age 27, b. Delaware; Norvin, age 5, ILL; Gertrude, 4, ILL; Thordston(sic), age 1 in the 1870 Logan Co., ILL Census. In 1880, James's age is 38, b. ILL. This would mean he was b. abt 1842-43. Others in 1880 HH with James: Josephine, 37, b. Del, Norban (sic), 15, Gertrude, 13, Thornton, 11, Lorinda, 6, all children b. ILL

I believe that James's father was Evan Worth, Sr. b. abt. 1815 in Kentucky. Further research would be needed to be sure. The following family is found in the 1850 Logan Co., ILL Census:

I am interested in knowing where in Kentucky Evan, Sr. and/or Lorinda were from. It appears from Otha's birthplace that Evan, Sr. was in Illinois by 1840 but I could not locate them in a Census.

Do you (or anyone who is reading this) have any additional information about Evan Worth, Sr.?

I believe that Williams Jenkins Worth was my grandfather's, Clarence David Worth's, great-great-uncle. That's all I really know about him. It was just a family story that I heard many times that Fort Worth was named after him.

I know my great grandfather name was David Worth. He was born in Indiana in 1840 and died in 1925. I do not know his father's or mother's name except that they reportedly were from Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Searching for a birth for Thomas Henry Worth and any info regarding ascendants. On his marriage registration place of birth is given as Tyrone, Co. of Durham, Ontario. Est 1860 - 1865. Parents are John and Eliza Worth - her maiden name not known. On 1871 Census, West Durham,Darlington, p28, I have found a Thomas Worth, age 11, b. Ontario, living with Edward and Elizabeth Shannon.
Thomas may have 2 half-sisters: Mary Jane, age 17, stray,living with a Sanderson family in Ontario Cty. Family believes that Mary Jane married Phillip Goyne and this marriage shows the surname of Sanderson. The children of Mary and Phillip show her maiden name as Crossman/Crosscom/Crosskam. The second possible sister is Melissa Welch who married Frank Bainbridge and they lived in Dekalb, Ill. Any help appreciated.

Looking for any descendants/information about Benjamin Franklin Worth. The only information I have is that he died in 1927 in Pittsburgh, Pa.; he is the husband of Ella Mae Hooker, and they are the parents of my grandmother Ella Mae (May,Mabel) Worth Malsch (born 1884 in either Ohio or Pennsylvania). Ella Mae married my grandfather John G. Malsch from the northside of Pittsburgh, Pa. in 1904.
