I am looking for a Major Samuel
Wright, one of my ancestors. He may be the son of a Daniel
Wright and an Ellen
Benton, from
Surrey, NC. What I do know is Major Samuel
Wright fought in the Revolutionary War, was a vendue master in
Savannah,
GA., met and married a Rebecca Bruce in
Savannah, daughter of James Bruce, who came over with Olglethorpe. When Samuel
Wright married Rebecca Bruce, they inherited
Orange Grove Plantation on St. Simons Island, which today is Sea
Palms Resort, some of the streets there are named after him and relatives. He and his family are buried in
Christ Church cemetery, close to Ft. Frederica. Samuel
Wright was the "governor" of Ft. Frederica, a member of the
Georgia legislature, and a founder of Brunswick's only private school. The
Wright family plot is next to the Gould's, which Eugenia
Price wrote about in one of her books. There is a lot of history here-I have a tintype of my great grandmother, Mary
Elizabeth
Wright, who was on a ruined plantation called Spring Hill, at the junctures of now
Camden,
Glynn, and Wayne counties. You can e-mail me at nelande@yahoo. com. Nancy
