"Dr. George Wyche" wrote a bio on General John S. Besser, so he was almost certainly a descendant of James Edmond Wyche & Mary Alice Besser. (Mary was a Besser granddaughter.) But I can't quite identify this 'Dr. George Wyche.' (So MANY Wyche's!) I have James & Mary at http://www.adkins9.net/family.php?famid=F662
Any help welcome.

perhaps that is a confusing site for a beginner....what you would do is click on "wyches" and then would work backward as to the generations but I suspect at this time you don't have enough info to know where to actually "Place" someone...it would be confusing. Maybe I could help you if you could give me a little lineage back from yourself? Joan Wyche Eighmy

The only information I have on our family is what my uncle has gathered. As I never met my grandfather nor great grandfather, I wish to know as much as possible, so I can continue to pass on information to future generations. Any help anyone can give me is appreciated.

My great grandfather George Griffin Wyche -- this is the only information I have on him (Born in 1894 he was the first of 4 children by [unknown]'s second wife. He and his brothers put each other through medical school. George set up a medical practice first in Robstown, TX and finally in Alice, TX. He had 3 children by Elsie Clair and after she died, 2 more by Lucille Lawrence. He died around 1966. He had two full brothers and one full sister, and a half brother named John) ... my grandfather George Griffin Wyche II married Ada Bolton and my father was one of four boys from this marriage. My grandfather died in a plane crash in 1957. We do not know much about my great grandfather's first wife. Happy to share information I have if you share as well

I believe you can go to "<a href="http://members.cox.net/htpiii"....and" target="_blank">http://members.cox.net/htpiii"....and then go off on the Wyche sidebar ....that is how I first got my start with the Wyche lineage going way back.
If the above site doesn't work: perhaps try Henry Poole's genealogy on advanced google....I believe that was how I first happened upon it. bjwycheeighmy

Crystal, your ggrandfather George Griffin Wyche and my ggrandfather George William Wyche are the same gentleman...my grandfather was from his first marriage in Oklahoma to Sabina Mayfield who died around 1890 and then Dr. Geo. William Wyche returned to Oklahoma and later went by George Griffin Wyche. The children of that second marriage when he went back were my grandfather's step bros. and sisters, who I met when I was very young. I would be interested in knowing how exactly we are related and would be glad to share any information that I have on our family. I have been researching the Texas branch of late especially. Same individual, two separate marriages; my lineage is from the first marriage when George William was married to Sabina Mayfield (Cherokee) and they lived in Oklahoma as well as Texas..what was then Indian Territory. My line is familiar to you as Robert Dev. Wyche, George William Wyche (or Griffin Wyche), John William Wyche (about 1869-1956), John McCord Wyche(1911-1985), Barbara Joan Wyche Eighmy (myself). I have been trying to sort thru the Texas line of my family...your notations help!!

I too am descended from Peter Wyche and his wife Alice Scott thru their son Henry married to Frances unknown. The emigrant ancestor was Henry Wyche born in Surrey England and went to Surry County Virginia about 1748 and died there in 1714. His children were Sarah, George- my line, William, Henry, Eleanor and James. George was the father of Peter. I have traced the Wyche family back to Richard de la Wyche in England in the 1200's and they were a fascinating and distinguished lot.

Oklahoma marriage 1917 - Dee WYCHE and Margaret SMITH

Attached is a marriage application, marriage license and marriage certificate for 19 year old Dee Wyche and his 18 year old bride, Margaret Smith, who were married July 16, 1917 in Coal County, Oklahoma (mistakenly spelled "cole" in one place). Both were listed as residents of Tupelo, Coal County.

Dee Wyche's father signed the application and his initials are, I think, T.P. Wyche. Do you read it differently?

This couple may be:

Elmer Dee Wyche, born 4 Oct. 1897 and died April of 1973 in Stilwell, Adair County, Oklahoma, and Margaret Arizona Smith. Elmer was the son of Thomas Porter Wyche (1875-1930) and Laura M. (maiden name unknown, 1877-1945). Both Thomas and Laura's grave data is on Findagrave.com/

By separate post to this board, I've copied Dee and Margaret's son, Gerald Wyche's obituary from 2010.

Here's an excerpt from a Wyche family history, compiled by my 4th cousin, Terence Wyche in 1993. If you find any of this helpful, please email or just reply to this message me so we can connect our trees. Oscar Wyche (seen below) is my 3x-Great-Grandfather.

****
Harry and Harriett Wyche were probably born slaves on the plantation of John Ira Wyche in Greenville County, Virginia c. 1805. Not much is known about Harry and Harriett because Virginia records are hard to acquire. However, we do know that Harry had children, not only by Harriett, but also by two other women, namely Clarissa and Louise. It is believed that Harriett had other children as well.

The majority of the Wyches stayed in the Hicksford Township of Greenville County, Virginia in the city of Emporia. When I journeyed to that area, I found that there were a lot fo Wyches still staying in the area. As a matter of fact, the name Wyches is common as the names Smith and Jones. I found that to be very interesting considering the fact that the only Wyches in the Northampton and Halifax Counties are my immediate family.

Harry and Harriett were the parents of the following children: Jack (born 1850), Ben (born 1852) and Oscar (born 1853). Harry's children by Clarissa were Jane (born 1846) and Jackson. Harry's children by Louise were Betty, Lucy, Emma, Suzanna and Chany.

I too have hit a brick wall tracing my side of the Billups Family. Athens is the place of my birth. My grandfather was Cleveland Billups. His wife was Annie Furr Billups. They had six children - four boys and two girls. Marvin was my father.

We are serching for connections beyond my grand parents -sisters, brothers, parents. I have visited the State of Georgia Archives to no avail. Maybe, just maybe there is a connection

Marvin

You are all welcome to join BenWycheFamily.com for shared research. There we host a GED (family tree database) titled EARLY WYCHE for all the early UK and US Wyches.

We are especially interested in those descended from Henry Wyche, II (1648-1714) who was born Surrey County, England, and emigrated to America in the 1670s. He was the grandfather of Peter Wyche (born circa 1710) who married Alice Scott.

I hope to see you there, so that we may help the tree grow together!
