Hello and no, sadly - those are not our family names...we are probably distant cousins or something...

However this last week I did have a happy thing develop in that I contacted Hamilton County Clerk of the Court to see if my grandparent's marriage license might be on file still (circa 1899).

I was surprised when the clerk wrote me to say that she'd found it. I've now sent my $5 to request a copy.

The Hamilton County staff could not be more helpful and kind.

So - if your Wynns had significant life events in Hamilton County and you're looking for documentation, I do recommend the Clerk's office.

I just googled them and then used their online "contact us" tool to e-mail them...

Wishing you Much Success -
- Sylvia

My gr-grandparents were from SC. I have seen them spell their name Winn and Wynn. They were Mahala Gaskins b. 1869 in Madison County FL and William/Willie Winn/Wynn b. 1862 in FL. They married in 1885 most likely in Hamilton County as both sets of parents were neighbors and Willie worked for the Gaskins as a "servant". On the 1900 census, there is a notation that "both sets of parents born in SC". My grandparents lived in Perry, Taylor County, Florida most of their lives settling there from Pasco County FL sometime after 1900 census. There is another angle I have been checking also, and that is about Bathsheba Wynn who had an illegitimate child Willie B. 1862. Old Lady Bash as she was called married twice; the first being to William Merritt and the 2nd to Jacob Padgett. Jacob lived in Hamilton County FL when they married. I have never been able to confirm this connection to my gr-grandfather. But the Gaskin lineage is correct.
My gr-grandparents had 8 children and I have only been able to find one living relative todate. Do any of these names sound familiar?

My grandfather - John David Wynn - seems to have spent significant time in Hamilton County before whisking his wife Lucy Minerva over to Desoto County...and family rumour is that we may have originated up Carolina's-way...

Any mention of a John David amongst your family records?

In 1900 brother James lived with John David and Lucy Minerva...

Please reply directly to coachsylvia@comcast.net

I am Sylvia Irene WynnLindeman - John David and Lucy were my grandparents; my dad was Hugh Vernon or just Vernon on some of the census records...long gone since 1963, sadly...

Thanks

Hi, My great grandfathers name was William Wynn. His daughter's (my grandmother)name was Alma Wynn Campbell. Her husband's name was Richard Lou Campbell. I believe she had several sibblings and one of them could have been William Wynn Jr. Im not sure of this. I do remember Alma Wynn's sister's nickname was Aunt Tootsie or Toots as she was sometimes called by us. I made the family calendars and recorded all the birthdays sent to me for one of the family reunions around 1992. Alma and Richard had 7 children Richard Campbell, James Campbell, Willie A. Campbell (my father), William Campbell, Hilda Campbell Leach, Edith Cammpbell Booker, and Pearl Campbell Booker. My Grandparents, the Late Alma Wynn Campbell and Richard Lou Campbell lived in blackstone Va. Dinnwoody or dunwoody county. where they farmed. Sorry for such a late response. I would love to hear from someone soon.

Wynn(e) Family Cemetery North Carolina

I am looking for any information on a Wynn(e) family cemetery located in Washington or Martin County NC. Our great-grandfather William Joseph Davis (1859-1920)married Martha Ann Wynn (1871-1949). Martha's parents were Isaiah Henry Wynne (1818-unknown) and Martha Frances Everett (1841-unknown). Her brother Isaiah "Henry" Wynn(1874-1931)and his wife Minnie (1877-1945) are buried at the Jackson Cemetery in Plymouth, NC. Family stories say William Joseph Davis was buried in a Wynn(e) family cemetery. Unfortunately we have been unable to locate this cemetery. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Parents of Samuel Wynn (1895 - 1960)

I don't know. The only lead I have is that his wife's, Virginia's, father Joseph Francis Henderson (1880 - 1930) was born in Abbeville, SC & died in Augusta, GA. Virginia was born in 1910, but I don't know where. And I have no information on where they were married.

*** Update: I found a picture of his gravestone, based on name, rough area, birth year & death year (http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=%2...) with following info:
Samuel M Wynn, Jr
Birth: Nov. 17, 1895
Death: Jan. 31, 1960
Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Cedartown, Polk County,Georgia

His "Jr" has a "Sr" buried in same cemetery: (at http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=%2...) with info:
Birth: Mar. 12, 1848
DeKalb County, Georgia, USA
Death: Sep. 13, 1924
Vans Valley, Floyd County, Georgia, USA
Burial:
Greenwood Cemetery
Cedartown, Polk County, Georgia, USA

So now, I have Samuel's (Jr) father. There are 2 women buried in that same cemetery, both with gravestones that say "Wife of S. M. Wynn":

Spouses:
Mary Henderson Wynn (1847 - 1913) (http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=37...)
Irene Gertrude Hooper Wynn (1851 - 1886)* (http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=33... of Benjamin Franklin & Amelia Anna Talbot/Tolbert Hooper )

Based on Samuel Jr's birth year of 1895, I believe his mother was Mary Henderson. So now, noting that both Samuel Jr's mother & wife both had the same last name, they may have been cousins of some sort (which seems to be rather common "back then")...

Ronald and Donald Wyn, father and son- war heroes- Muskegon, Michigan

from an undated unnamed Florida newspaper (1951or 1952)
Muskegon, Michigan, Feb 3- Two war heroes- a father and his son- were buried side by side with impressive military rites in Oakwood Cemetery Saturday.
The father, Pvt. Donald Wyn, was killed in action in Germany during WWII. He was 34 at the time of his death.
The son, Pvt. Ronald Wyn, 17, was killed in action in Korea last Sept 15.- 1951.
Before going to the cemetery for the graveside rites, Mrs. Donald Wyn, the wife and mother, disclosed to newsmen that Ronald enlisted in the Army because he did not fully believe his father had been killed. He thought the Army would send him to Germany with occupation troops and he would have an opportunity to find out for himself.
"It was Ronald's belief that his father was still alive, even though he was listed as killed in action and was buried in the National Cemetery at Springfield Illinois" Mrs Wyn said."He hoped that by enlisting in the service he might be sent to Germany, where he could search for his father. Shortly afterward, however, hostilities started in Korea and he was sent to take part in the fighting."
The Army reported the father was killed in action in the Hurtgen Forest area in Germany. The body was returned to the US for burial
After Ronald was killed in action, the family decided to bury the father and son together.
The Rev. Henry Van Raalte, pastor of the Fifth Reformed Church, officiated at funeral services at a chapel here.
Officers of William G Stoppels Post 323 of the American Legion conducted the graveside rites.
Salutes were fired and then a trumpet sounded taps. A small group of townspeople attended the rites.

Hi Barbara,

Unfortunately I do not have parents/siblings for my George Perkins. Per 1850 census, he was supposedly born in GA,and according to his wife and widow Elizabeth, he was born in 1782. His parentage and siblings is a work in progress.

We think Elizabeth fits nicely into this family for multiple reasons.

One big reason is the Bolton family, ( her maternal family) can later be found in 1830 census in DallasCo, AL. We think other people connected to the Wynns in Wilkes Co, are later found in DallasCo, AL in the 1820s and beyond.

We dont exactly know why Elizabeth of WilkesCo, GA ended up getting married in NC, other than we suspect that George might have known the family while living in GA.

Their connections and family are still very much a work in progress for me. They moved around a lot making my research a challenge.

Are you connected to the Wynns somehow?
Sue
sodixey@hotmail.com

I am curious about a couple of items in your post. Who were the parents of George Perkins? And how did Elizabeth Wynn if she was the daughter of Obediah Wynne of Wilkes Co. Ga, get to Rockingham NC to marry George? I have a daughter named Elizabeth for Obediah Wynne, but I do not have a spouse listed for her. She is named in Obediah's estate. I have both Wynnes and Perkins in my tree but not this particular line.

NOTES FOR OBEDIAH WILLIAM WYNNE:
WILKES CO. GA DB KK, 1793: p. 95 26 Dec 1791 Witnesses to deed: Obediah Wynne, Thos. Wynne, Rhoda Wynne. Proved by these three, 28 Mar 1792.

Early Records of Georgia, Wilkes Co. by Davidson. p. 171
Page 175--WYNNE, OBEDIAH, dec'd. est. Wm. Booker, admr. Paid Martha M.
Hi All,

I am a fairly new Wynn researcher.

Recently learned my Elizabeth Perkins was born Elizabeth Wynn in 1792/3. She was married to George Perkins in Rockingham on the Pee Dee, NC in 1809.

Our best research places Elizabeth a daughter of Obediah Wynn and Amy Leone Bolton m. 1786, and lived in WilkesCo, GA. Other children from the marriage were John ( b. 1887), Sarah ( Sally) and Obediah.

I am trying to locate other Obediah Sr. researchers. There are several trees with John listed but they mix up the records with two different John Wynns. One is John Wynn who married a Jemima and the other is John Wynne ( name ends with an E) who married Susannah Owens.

My Elizabeth didnt stay in the area, she moved on to TN, AL, LA and on to east Texas.......where she died 1859 or later in or around Crockett/Randolph area, HoustonCo, TX.

Would be happy to connect and share with others tracing same lines.

My Great grandfather was Joseph Wynne. He married Stella Locklear. Her sister also married a Wynne named John. They all lived in Robeson County and were listed as Indian. I have noted that William Wynne (b. 1834)who married Emily had sons named Joseph and John same ages a my Joseph and John. Charles son of Adam had son named William born abt. 1835. I am trying to connect the dots. I was hoping that you might have info that could help me see if these people are all part of same family. I noted the William I believe to be in my direct line had daughter named Jinnie. My understanding is Adam's Indian wife was named Jin.

I would love to see what you have on Elizabeth I am descended from Samuel (1731-1790)>>John Sr (1765-1849)>>Annanias Wynn (1808-1893)>>>Martha Jane Wynn (1837-1913). Martha Jane was the last Wynn in my family. She married a man by the name of Reuben Cyrus Conrad, and the COnrad family became the dominating surname on my maternal side, until my grandmother married a Yeager.

Want to hear something interesting, I come from two separate lines of Yeager (Mother was a Yeager, Father was a Yeager.)

Anyway, that is what sparked me into looking at my geneaology, I mean, how many people can say that both their parents had the same original last name?

If you would like to send me your report, I would love to see it. My email address is gw197234@aol.com.

I guess you can attach it to the message board.Whichever way, I appreciate it.
PENN STATE!!!!

My mother was a Wynn and descended from John (oldest one),his son Samuel D., his son Jacob Samuel, his son Jacob Walter (Wally, my great grandfather), his son George (my grandfather), then my mother, Elizabeth. I'm wondering about your source for the maiden name of John's (second?) wife, Elizabeth...you have Shipman noted, but John's son Samuel D. was married to an Elizabeth Shipman (source: Floyd's Northumberland Atlas)...would seem odd that they had the same last name. I'll gladly send what I have in a report and you can see what matches up with what you have and what doesn't. Which child of Samuel's is in your past?

Hi Laura,

First off, LOVE YOUR USERNAME (Ntnylions). WE ARE...!

Ok, enough funny stuff; The descendant you are related to is the SAME one I am related to (Samuel Wynn). She was born in Lower Augusta Township in 1767 and died there in 1830.

Which one of their children are you descended from? Just curious.

Re: The lineage of Ananias (Annanias) Wynn

I am a descendant thru John Wynn Jr. (b 1797) Lower Augusta Twp, Northumberland County, PA. My family has been researching this line for about 100 years and unfortunately we are about as stuck as you are regarding John Wynn (Sr.) b. about 1765.

I don't have any information regarding the link to Baronet John Wynn from Wales(1553-1625). Could you please provide any documentation that you have regarding that link?

Due to all the conflicting info, I am currently trying to use modern technology (yDNA testing) to make a breakthrough. I am hoping that another Wynn descendant who DOES NOT descend thru John Wynn Sr. will match my yDNA and then we can compare notes and data to hopefully leapfrog past John Wynn Sr. and possibly have success working backwards from there to answer the questions about John Wynn Sr.

I did a 37-marker yDNA test thru Family Tree DNA and then I asked a Richard Wynn who is reported to be a descendant of John Wynn Sr. through Samuel D. (b. 1795) to also do a test. Unfortunately, my results were R1b1b2 and his were I1 (total DNA mismatch which means at least one of us does not biologically descend through John Wynn Sr.). Curiously though, his yDNA matched a John Michael Winn who reportedly descends from Joseph Young Winn (b. 1842 Ohio). I haven't heard from Richard yet as to whether or not they've made progress in sorting out their lineages yet.

The problem is that I still don't have anyone matching my yDNA yet, so I am unable to confirm that my yDNA actually comes through John Wynn (Sr.) and/or John Wynn Jr. I desperately need another male Wynn descendant of John Wynn Jr. or John Wynn Sr. to test their yDNA so that we can establish a confirmed yDNA signature for this line.

Do you or Laura Darr know of any biological male Wynn descendants of John Wynn Sr. that would be willing to do a yDNA test? If so, please let me know (wynnclan at gmail.com) and I can provide instructions. If cost is an issue, I think my family would be willing to help subsidize the cost.

Laura Darr, can you please email me as well so that I have a current email address for you?

Thanks!
Michael Wynn

Hello,
I am descended from John through his son Samuel. I have seen several versions of John's life in various places on the internet, but have never seen a definitive version. Some have him born in New England, some in New Jersey, some in PA. All agree that he was from Welsh extraction, but how many generations back is unknown. The mother of his many children was Elizabeth, nee Shipman according to one history, but I have seen this book to be wrong about other things, so I take that with a grain of salt. One other researcher has his wife listed as Margaret Dalbier...I have never seen this elsewhere or any documentation of it. I have also never seen any source that talks about Elizabeth being a second marriage, although it's certainly possible, and might explain the name of the other wife. There does seem to be some link to the State of NJ, but whether he just passed through or was born there, I don't know. The Shipman family has ties there as well.

I would love to find some further information...anything you can supply would be of great interest! I will gladly share what I do have on this family...

Laura

The lineage of Ananias (Annanias) Wynn

I am doing further research on the Wynn side of my family. Ananias was born in 1808 in Lower Augusta Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania and died Dec. 15 1893. He was married to Elizabeth White.

These parts are clear, however, the preceding generations are very confusing and I need someone who has a definite lineage for this branch of the Wynns. I think I have most of the information correct; That his father was John Wynn (b.1765-d. 1849), Also born in Lower Augusta Township. He married Elizabeth Shipman (This was his second marriage). The real question is, who was HIS father and so on and so forth.

I believe Ananias Wynn has a direct link to the Baronet John Wynn from Wales(1553-1625) but I am missing the two generations that were descendant to this baronet. Any information would be extremely helpful. You can contact me at gw197234@aol.com with any information about this line or reply to this board.

Thanks!

Wynns of Grant & Pendleton Co. KY

Hoping somebody can help me with the family of William Sherman "Willie" Wynn, who was born 2-2-1887 in Dry Ridge, Grant Co. KY. He married Ina Gross in about 1909 and had a number of children, only 2 or 3 of whom appear to have survived. Ina died in 1918. He appears to have remarried (possibly to Bessie Ayers, not sure...) but eventually divorced. His SSA application gives his birth date and place and says his parents were Ike Wynn and Annie Crouch. So far, I haven't found any records that show this couple existing. Can't find the family in the 1900 census, and no death records that appear to be these people. Willie died in 1973 in Frankfort. His son listed his parents as unknown on his death certificate, which can often mean one or more of them died young. Any help anyone can give me will be appreciated.
