I don't think I can make a connection to anyone who has posted here but I thought it couldn't hurt to post my Wynne ancestors to see if anyone can connect.

My Wynnes are from the Rhesycae area of Flintshire around Halkyn mountain. Specifically of interest for me are the children/ family of Edward Wynne (1831-1905) Born in Halkin and his wife Elizabeth Wynne (nee Griffith) (1835-1901).

ring any bells for anyone?

This is an old thread so don't know if you're still reading. My paternal grandfather was Llewelyn Wynne, from Rhes-y-cae, near Holywell. I think he's the one you're referencing, but I think his parents were Edward and Elizabeth. I believe Llewelyn had siblings called Robert and Hannah. I don't know of any named Sarah Edith or Catherine, but I do know that he named two of his daughters Sarah and Edith. My father, Wilfred Wynne, was Llewelyn's youngest of 6 children.

John William Wynne, born 1769, Castlecomer, Kilkenny, Ireland, - April 7, 1847, Prospect, Ontario, Canada, married #1 March 7, 1796, St. Anne's, Dublin, Ireland to Mary Benn. She was born 1776, Castlecomer, Kilkenny, Ireland - 1847, Montague, Lanark, Ontario, Canada. He married #2, 1800, Ossary Diocese, Kilkenny, Ireland, Mary Styles, born 1780, Kilkenny, Ireland - April 7, 1847, Montague, Lanark, Ontario, Canada. They had nine children and I'm trying to figure out which belong to which mother. Think I know but want to see if I can verify any records. You can email me OleBlue50@cox.net I just got a few more bits of info this week you might want. Nina

Re: Marian Wynne - Miriam Wynne

Miriam (known to her mother and siblings as 'Minnie') was my grandmother's youngest sister, one of 7 children of Thomas and Sarah Wynne. The family was Welsh, but Thomas had moved to Liverpool from Glyn Ceiriog to find work. All 7 children were born in Liverpool but brought up in a Welsh community. Thomas died in 1895, 5 months after Miriam was born, leaving Sarah with 7 children and no means of supporting them. Miriam and 3 of the girls went into an orphanage but she later moved back with her mother. I have extensive information on this branch of the Wynnes of Glyn Ceiriog. Miriam's two brothers John David ('Jack') and Richard Thomas ('Dick') also emigrated to the USA. I know a little about all 3 and would be happy to exchange information with any Wynne descendants in the US.

My mother and uncle remember Miriam, Hazel and Melvyn visiting Wales in the 1930s.

Myfanwy Wynne Jones

You are lucky because George Lewis is the only child proven to John Winn in the DAR. There are about 40 proven applications. If I could find out how he was proven a son, then I might could figure out how to prove Devereaux. However, the early applications are not available to look up. I think it's strange that no one has proven any other of John Winn's children to him. If anyone has a Bible record, I sure would like to find that. Thanks for your help. Mary Wall

I have found the DAR was more accepting of documents purporting to be "family or bible" records in early years.
I had one application where the wives were not identified correctly but the Wynnes were.
John Wynne/Winn was reported as the father of George Lewis Wynne from a "family" record.
A published history of Wilson County TN states that John Wynne and his son John Knibb Wynne arrived in that part of Sumner Co TN which became Wilson Co in 1797. This fits with other circumstantial evidence that was as good as I ever found.
Another point was that John' wife was Polly Lewis, dau of George Lewis and my ancestor was George Lewis Wynne, who I strongly believe was their oldest son.

There are 30 proven applications through him. They are all through one child only, George Lewis.I want to order one to see how George Lewis was proven and the other children weren't, but there are so many applications that I am lost as to which to order. The older apps are not available. Guess I'll just pick one. Are you interested in any of this? Also, if anyone is interested, I have alot of TX info on Devereaux.

I am not sure I have "hard" proof, just a lot of circumstantial.
My ancestor was Deveraux's brother, George Lewis Wynne. Before TX, Deveraux was in Madison Co TN shortly after 1820 and in Wilson Co TN before that to around 1800. Before that these Wynnes were in Franklin Co NC and before that in Amelia Co VA where Deveraux was born abt 1770.
I have his father as John Wynne and his mother as Mary "Polly" Lewis. The father died in WIlson Co TN and the mother may have as well.
John & Polly's youngest son died before John left slaves to his grandchildren, Isham's children. Deveraux was named their guardian.
I found no will by John naming Deveraux or any children.
***************************************
Jackson Gazette #2, Vol. VI, July 4 1829
Married on Weds.
I'm descended from Mary Edith Wynne who was the offspring of Mary & Robert Wynne.

She married Elijah Shaw and they lived in Lower Darwen, Lancashire (a small village then, on the outskirts of Blackburn & Darwen) amongst other places. My grandmother was one of their children and consequently I was born in Blackburn.
I'm now in Largs, North Ayrshire, Scotland.

Regards info, I'm not sure how much I have relevant to you.

I'm on the verge of searching in the 18th century for David Wynne/Elizabeth Hughes and Hugh Dryhurst/Jane Davies.

I've been doing bits & pieces for a while but I don't seem to have gone very far!

Robert
I ran across a James Wynne (mulatto) in the 1920 AZ Census. He says born MS both parents born MS. The spelling WYNNE isn't widely used. I found a couple of cases where the wife thought WYNN wasn't sophisticated so they added an "E". I can send you a screen shot of the census pages. Giive me a note to jwynn@mindspring.com.

Jack Wynn

Re: Mary Elizabeth Winn/Wynne

Mary Elizabeth Winn married William Richard Hardy and moved to Lunenburg County, Va., from Isle of Wight County, Va. Recently, while working on her husband, William Richard Hardy, I found that he had some litigation about a grist mill with a Daniel Winn, a neighbor on adjoining land, about 1765.(Proved) I believe there is a familial connection & started working on Daniel Winn. I came accross some other Winns that spelled their name Wynne. In the end, I found a Thomas Wynne who died in Lunenburg and his Mother was Agnes Stith(Proved), she was also married to a Thomas Wynne(Sr.)(Proved). Further research revealed that Thomas Wynne had a son Daniel, a son Joseph and a daughter Mary(no DODs, off of the internet and not proved). William Richard Hardy bought the land and the grist mill from Daniel Wynne and Joseph Wynne in about 1780(Proved). In William Richard Hardy's will dated 1790, he leaves land to his son Stith Hardy(Proved.) Stith Hardy has to be the name sake Agnes Stith Wynne. Looking for documentation Mary Elizabeth Wynne Hardy that connects her to her parents. Any Help Appreciated. Thanks, Mike Mankin thelostcause@embarqmail.com

You might also want to check out the following [ http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/ncfrankl/2002-... ] and [ http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/NCFRANKL/2002-... ] both of which discuss an abstract of Lewelling Jones' will made in 4 Mar 1794. Charles Wynne, Joshua Wynne and Elizabeth Wynne were witnesses. Franklin Co, NC Sheriff (in 1795) Roger Jones is a son of Lewelling's. Mary Jones, daughter of Lewelling, married Robert Hight. I too am trying to sort out the Wynne-Jones-Hight relationships in Franklin Co, NC circa 1794 because Lewelling Jones' daughter Amy Jones Oliver who married John Oliver and gave birth to Francis Hewitt "Frank" Oliver are all ancestors of mine. Was Catherine, the wife of Lewelling, also a Wynne thus all the Wynne witnesses to her husband's will? That is probably too simple of an explanation.

I know you say Angelina said she was divorced when she remarried, but you can say virtually anything for a marriage certificate. She did say she was a widow in 1901, so maybe he did die.

There's a John Thomas Winn (30) died in Thirsk in Jul-Aug-Sep 1899 (volume 9d, page 315). The name and aged fit, so you could send for the death certificate if you wanted to check. No guarrantees, though.

By the way, in April 1911, Angelina was living with her son (John Wilfred WYNNE) and her new husband in Glanford Brigg in Lincolnshire.

TIMMS, George Henry Head Married M 36 1875 Railway Contractors Labourer Staffordshire Shareshill
TIMMS, Angelina Wife Married F 40 1871 Staffordshire Walsall
WYNN, John Wilfred Stepson Single M 15 1896 Railway Contractors Labourer Staffordshire Walsall
