The Yale Family History Book is now public domain. There is a 1980 update that is not.

You can get a copy from my website at:
http://www.dcyale.com/yale_family/yale_hst.html

or an internet search will get you a couple sites that have copies.

I have started again on family history- looking to fill in the Pecks of CT, and the Clarks and Quigleys in upstate NY. Since no one seems to have wtitten a noce book, this will be a bunch harder than the Yale part of the tree was.

I searched the census records for Genesee co, and could not find Delia anywhere in them.

I could not find any Delia Yale born about 1806 in my Yale database, however, according to R. H. Yale, Yale Genealogy, "Joel Yale of Granville, [Genesee,] N. Y., was married to Delia Stone. She was born December 25, 1806. He became insane and left his family, some years prior to 1850 and it is not known when or where he died."

They had children Almira b. 1827, Cordelia b. 1828, Edwin b. 1829, Ann Marie b. 1831, Amanda b. 1833, and Melissa b. 1835.

I know that I have tried to find her Stone family in Genesee co, but have had no luck. I suppose if you want to search probate records, you might have some luck.

Thank you for the Info & Links, Roberta. I will make it to Newport sometime soon.

In my opinion, the two Linus' were the pinnacle of American mechanical genius. That's saying quite a bit when you consider Sargent, Dalton, Dr. Solomon Andrews, Philo Felter and hundreds of other creative geniuses. Not to mention- their craftsmanship has never been equaled.

They've never received the credit they rightly deserve.

You may want to visit the Lock Museum of America located in Terryville, CT if you're interested in the subject. The Yale's contribution to the art of lockmaking is very much appreciated there, as are many others.

http://www.lockmuseum.com/about.htm

---Randy

PS- I'm a Trustee of the museum.

There were many early publications that contained errors on the parentage of Thomas Yale, immigrant. New and authoritative books have the correct parentage.

There are several books by professional genealogists that have recorded the royal connections of the Yale family. They may be in your local or county libraries. One includes the Lloyd family.

Yale Genealogy and History of Wales, by Rodney Horace Yale;
Plantagenet Ancestry, by Douglas Richardson;
Magna Carta Ancestry, by Douglas Richardson;
Royal Ancestry Bible, by Michel L. Call;
Royal Descents of 600 Immigrants to the American Colonies or the United States, by Gary Boyd Roberts (includes the ancestry of Thomas Yale and Anne Lloyd).

Mary Hunter

David Yale (abt. 1535-1626) married Frances Lloyd and they had about 15 children. Their son Thomas Yale (1580-1619) married Anne Lloyd, daughter of Bishop George Lloyd. The Lloyds descended from King John I (Lackland). Thomas and Anne had four known children: David (married Ursula Knight) were parents of Elihu Yale, returned to England; Ann (married Gov. Edward Hopkins); Thomas (married Mary Turner); and Elizabeth (Mary) Wright (died in England before 1625).
Hello Richard,
My father is William Yale Wilson whom descends from Mildred Lake Yale, daughter of Lucias Pride Yale Sr. We made contact with a elder cousin living in N.Wales, by the name of, Gordon Sherratt. He had, what I believe is the same book you mention, written by, Rodney Horace Yale in 1908 titled, The Yales and Wales. I did not think to ask him at the time of our visit, so I would ask you, would you know how I could obtain a copy of this book. I found the website that contains the text from the book, but it is not very easy to follow. I would appreciate any info on this matter.

Thank you very much Roberta for the info on Linus Yale, his son [Linus Yale Jr.], and the photos. I appreciate it so much and I'm thankful you took the time to reply.
I was a professional locksmith for 15+ years and have always been deep into [all] history. Linus Yale Sr. and Linus yale Jr. have been at the top of my list when it comes to locks. Well- I know you're probably asking yourself, "How much more boring could this guy be than to have 2 long dead 'lock' heroes?"
I have no apologies. These guys were the Steve Jobs and Bill Gates of the lock world.
The technology and craftsmanship that we seem to have lost in the 'lock world' has resurfaced in other areas. Few people will ever realize this. Please consider my theory and thank you [again] for the information.
---Randy Hagerman

The information about Linus Yale, Jr.'s, burial place in "Locks and Lock Makers of America" is incorrect. Linus Yale, Jr., is buried in the Arms Cemetery in Shelburne Falls, MA. If you go to FindAGrave.com and search his name you can see a photo of his gravestone.

His father, Linus Yale, Sr., is buried in the Newport Cemetery behind the Baptist Church in Newport, NY. I took photos of his gravestone and posted them at FindAGrave.com

There is a very nice Yale monument in the cemetery at Salisbury but neither Linus Yale is buried there. That monument was erected much later. Every summer there is at least one lock collector who drives all the way up the hill to Salisbury looking for Jr.'s grave and then comes down to Newport to ask for help at the Historical Center.

Hi Richard,

I am descended from Mary Elizabeth Yale (b. 1857, New York), daughter of Charles (b. 1830 Connecticut) and Betsy Yale (b. 1830 New York). They were all living together in Roxbury, New York in 1880, but I have no other information, do you? I haven't been able to find any other children of Charles and Betsy.

Thanks
LHerdman@hotmail.com

I am working on the Joel Yale line that supposenly went insane in 1832. He married Cordelia Stone in 1826. He did have a mental problem in the early 1830s but recovered. He left home ( evans Mich) in 1835 to look for land in Illinois. He was seen in several places shortly after but never returned home. My interest is his wife Cordelia ( k,a, " Delia " who died in St Louis around 1900. I believe there is a very good chance she is my great grandmother on my fathers side, although I can find no records indicateing she remarried after Joels disappearence.ny light you could shed on Delia,s life after 1836 would be greatly appreciated. Regards Dick Wright St Louis MO.

It was taken at Das Marinas I have a HUGE picture of company M at Fort Sheridan just before they left for the Philippines. I am curious if he is in that picture too.
Incidentally the original company Commander Captain Charles McQuiston went insane and killed a segeant and wounded a few other men before a soldier mortally wounded him.

He did serve in the Philippines. He was so very proud of his Spanish American War Service and maintained a group of fellow vets at the West Los Angeles Sawtelle facility for the V.A. at Los Angeles up until his death. His last years were spent in Sunland, California. He was a wonderful Grandfather who had much to share with others about his service. He spent hours telling his stories and loved to play card with his friends at Sunland Park, California. He was married to Pauline Evelyn for over sixy years.

the descendants of Sir George Simpson,(HBCo) are quite thoroughly listed in Dale Lahey's "Fed By Their Wings". He lives in Guelph, Ontario. He is the descendant of John Mackenzie Simpson, your ancestor. You should have his book. I have been trying to sort out all the Simpsons in the Hudson;s Bay Co. fur trade since 1965. The HBC Archives has all my family group sheets on them. George Jr. (my ancestor) was baptized George Stewart Simpson. Yales two daughters had a double wedding ceremony at Ft. Langley in June 1857, I believe, married by James Douglas.

The birth and death dates for the John Yale you mention 26 Sep 1795 - 14 Sep 1805; (son of Joel Yale & Rachel Morse) come from "Yale Genealogy and History of Wales." R. H. Yale, 1908; page 160. Thus, pretty reliable. Are you thinking that the John you mention is actually his brother Joel who "went insane and wandered away from his family bef. 1850"? I am somewhat confused by the question. Probably my problem. Contact me direct at chrisbarttels@msn.com

I have John Yale in St. Clair, Saint Clair, MI 1840 census [Yate]. He was in this area 1830 or so and gone from his family by 1860 when his wife Maria b. abt 1815 in NY & youngest children are living in the same household as Abraham Knapp B. abt 1805 NY.
There is a Joel Yale that purchased property in Michigan in 1826. If this is the Joel who "went insane and wandered away from his family bef. 1850" then his parents would be Joel b. 1766 and Rachel Morse. The info I have found in "trees" on John b. abt 1795 is that he died abt 1805. can anybody tell me where John Yale death info came from ?

NY. There is a Abram Nichols in the household 55 b. NY. what about maybe...Abram is her bro. maybe thier f. was also Abram and maybe their mothers maiden was Knapp ? hence Abram Knapp Yale.? How have you connected him to John & Mary? Just trying to get a "clue" and also a few facts. Hoping you can help.
