Re: HELP!! Yeakley-Laucks-Deppen Debate

This may or may not be of help. My father, the late Russell Bowman, grandson of Lucy Yeakle (daughter of John 1798-1856 and Elizabeth Yeakle)often recalled his family telling a story about a distant ancestor, one Christian Deppen, who had some sort of humorous set to with some Indians while he was chopping wood. It was a tale interesting enough to pass down through the ages though he always doubted its veracity. Years later, when he began to do serious research in geneology, he ran across the same story in Elmer Deppen's book about the descendents of Christian Deppen(I have forgotten the title). In itself, this proves nothing, but it is an interesting connection. There is obviously some sort of confusion as the Yeagley-Lauck marrage dates and the Yeagley-Deppen dates are nearly identical. However, I have looked for a George Feakley in that area at that time and came up empty, and as a historian myself, I can attest that names can be confusing and records easily jumbled and mingled, particularly if copied many times. There could easily have been a second marriage, but from what I can tell George Yeagley and Anna Maria Lauck both died in roughly the same time framework (1784-1785) Anna Deppen Yeagley or Feakley evidently lived until 1823 though there may have been a year's leeway. However, her father made the will in 1775.If Lauck was the wife, she and George were still alive and married. I think The wills were probated in 1782 and 1784. In any case, my professional hunch, for what it is worth, is that Yeagley has been misread for Feakley. There is definite proof that Christian Deppen and Benedict Youghli, possibly the father of George Yeakley, and one Christian Ruchti, his wife and two daughters one of whom supposedly later married Christian Deppen, all crossed the pond together on the Princess Augusta in 1734. As Ruchti was elderly and his sons were left behind in Switzerland, my guess is that there was a betrothal before they even left. These families seem rather entwined to me. As you posted your querry four years ago, I imagine you have already resolved this issue. My family would love to know if you have found anything more definitive. Many thanks.

I think there is something better. I found Anna Yeakley in the LOST CREEK MENNOITE CEMETERY, OAKLAND MILLS, JUNIATA CO., PENNSYLVANIA, with the same dates that the Deppen family have for Anna Deppen. I figure this is an old and closed problem for all of us. Thank God there are people able and willing to search cememterys for the rest of us. The person who found it for me only had the name Anna Deppen and the dates, they came back with the name Yeakley.

Linda

I saw this message and wanted to tell you something. I believe your line comes from Jacob Yeakley, brother to George Yeakley. He was born Johan Jacob in 1740 in Phildelphia, Pa. Married Anna Maria Hane. You most likley already know this. I have been trying to find someone who has this whole line. But there is something interesting here in your message that has always been a mystery. Where did the name Carson come from? It is all the way down in George's family too. Who the heck was this Carson? lol
If you or anyone you know has a large tree on Jacob's fsamily, would you share? Yeakley is a made up name as the dept of immigration tells me so we are all from the same person who entered this country before the Rev. War.

Linda

Someone from Margaret Yeakley Edington, her sister, family told me Caroline died 5 July 1931. Also said she married a man name Langdon. Is this right?
okay, so its been almost 10 years since your post. To clear up these confusions, do you have a photocopy of the original wills (preferred)? Transcription will do. If we're going to go forward with Lauck, we need to be able to support it. I think the ship manifest argument is weak because you can have people with the same name or similar. The manifest might have been the Deppens and the Feagley's. Would be good to show something tangible, with detailed information.
Thanks
Andrea

PS marriage record maybe? This one is on ancestry for Yakel and Deppen:
http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=worldmarr_ga&a...

So you'd need an alternate one to make strong argument

There has not been one Yeakley family enter this country since it was first recorded per the Immigration Dept. I have worked on George's brother, Jacob's line and even traced one of them back to St. Joseph,Missour. Have his death cert. If they are in Texas, they are ours down from George O. Yeakley and Lydia Grubbs. That is the line these people are from but low and behold, the Texas Death cert. don't always list the parents.

Linda

Hi my name is Amanda Martin. My maiden name is Yeakley. We live in Arkansas. My aunt has been doing research on the Yeakley's for as long as I can remember. I didn't know if you would be interested in knowing anything for your research. I doubt any of us are on the Tesas death list, but who knows, it could help.

Hello,
This is actually my husband's family, but I was doing the genealogy search. The best source you can get on the Yeagley (etc.) family is the book: The Yeagleys of Penryn: The Edward Hummer Yeagley Family and Genealogies of Jacob Jackle and John Hummer by Herbert W. Yeagley and Ronald D. Myers.

My husband is descended from Jacob Jackle > Jacob Jegly > George Yeagley > Catherine Yeagley m. to Andrew Brehm.

There is a Clair H. Yeagley listed on p. 66 of the book. Do you need any info. that goes back further? According to the book it goes:
Jacob Jackle > Jacob Jegly > Adam Yeagley > Henry Yeagley > Ammon Yeagley > Clair H. Yeagley (b. July 20, 1906; d. June ll, 1986) If you would like it, I can send you more info. with dates. My e-mail is bmark@messiah.edu

Hello,

I am the woman searching for Charlotte Yeakley. I am so glad to hear from you. I am from the Yeakley family thru a George Yeakley b. 1738 in Pennsylvania. The Berks Co., Historical Society tells me that there is not but one Yeakley family intering this country. So, that means we are connected. At the time I spoke to Charlotte, I had just go started on my Yeakley family so could not have hoped that we could connect. Now I am on firmer ground, I think. I would like to try again if you are willing.

Linda Morris

Well this is a little late but I still would like information. I am from a Yeakley family and I wanted to know just how far up the tree you have been. My family started with a George Yeakley and his wife Anna but..he had at least one brother named Jacob and perhaps a sister too. That was in the 1700's. I have no doubt that if you could go back that far, we could connect. I have checked with the immigration dept. and there have been no Yeakleys entering this country since that time so we must be connected. Thank you for contacting me even though Roots did not send me an email. I am glad I checked back.

Linda Morris

John W. Yeakley - WWII - Lebanon County, PA

By March 13, 2007, I will post an update to the web page ( http://members.aol.com/dadswar/31deaths.htm ) of overseas deaths in WWII of 31st Tank Battalion (7th Armored Division) to include John W. Yeakley of Lebanon County, PA. His remains were repatriated for burial in the United States. Can anyone tell me where he is buried?

Here is the 31st Tank Battalion Unit History entry for 4 March 1945 that describes his death in a tragic non-battle accident:

"An unfortunate accident occured during the morning in which Tec 4 John W. Yeakley, backing his tank struck the turret hatch cover against a tree breaking the turret lock and swinging the gun in such a manner that he was struck and killed by it. Tec 4 Yeakley was one of the battalion's old and experienced members."

The entire text of the Unit History report will be posted to the 7th Armored Division Document Repository web site ( http://home.comcast.net/~johnstonww ) by March 13, 2007.

Others have said his wife was Anna Deppen? Does anyone have an answer for me?
