Thomazin or Tamson YEOMAN of Plymouth, Devon (m Sampson COTTON Plymouth Charles 1816)

Can anyone help us with a register lookup for the baptism and/or parents of Thomazin (also Spelled Tamson) Yeoman? She was registered as OTP when she married Sampson Cotton miller of Lipson Mill in Plymouth Charles in 1816. We believe the family may have already been long established in the area, since a Humphrey Yeomans married Thomasine Worrell in East Stonehouse in 1709. Thomazin had three children with Sampson (Jane, Sampson and Samuel). Her husband died in 1822 at the age of 34. So far we have found no record of her death or re-marriage. Living far from Devon (currently in Taiwan and California) we will be so grateful for any help, thank you. Morgan Hughes-Owens and Midi Berry

Yeomans & Toone Family-1662-Old Rappahannock County, Virginia

I'm trying to locate the family connection between James Yeomans and James Toone. I have the following document....

01 November 1662
Old Rappahannock County, Virginia
Deed Books 1656 - 1664, Part 2 p. 260

Bequest by James Yeomans

Know all men that I James Yeomans of the County of Rappa. Planter do freely give unto James Toan(sic) Son & Heir unto James Toane(sic) of the Sd. County, Planter, one pied heiffer black and white with a Crop on the left and nick on crop on the right Ear. To have and to hold the said Heiffer with her increase for Ever and furthermore. I said James Yeomans do hereby acknowledge the same in Court when required. I have sett my hand this first of November 1662.

James Yeomen
Test. Thos. Freshwater
Thos. Coley

James Toone married twice, and it is his first wife that I believe may have been a Yeomans. Also Old Rappahannock County was formed from Lancaster County in 1656.

And our Tune/Toone family Y-DNA is in the same Haplogroup as some of the Yeomans:
Haplogroup R1b1a2a1a1b5a, also known as R-SRY2627(also known as M167). The places of highest frequency for this group are Spain (esp. Catalonia), Western France, Cornwall, and Wales. This represents the Catalano-Gascon subclade of the Italo-Celtic group.

Anyone with information on the Yeomans in Colonial Virginia, or those matching the Y-DNA, please get in touch.

Gloria J. Tune
8th g. granddaughter of James Toone, 1620/30-1676

Re: Yeoman's DNA testing

I am a descendant of Moses Yeomans of Colchester (b 1710 d 1778). Has anyone done DNA testing on the various lines of Yeomans? There is a group that has tested the Christopher Yeomans line, but I am specifically looking for the Stonington Ct lines and the Tolland CT lines. I think they are somehow connected to my line, but I can't find the common ancester (I don't know my Moses' parents or the town of his birth).

I believe Margaret was born about 1884, but don't know who her mother was. I believe her parents (Charles Yeomans) may have been of Irish descent based on Margaret's census record. Does anyone have any info on her parents? She married Benjamin Franklin Carr.
This is to all the Yeoman's out there in cyberland. I was looking for my family connections and decided to see what I could find for my husband.
I have enjoyed reading all the Yeoman posts, especially those connected to Stephen and Ohio. My husband is from that line also. As a matter of fact, my husband and our sons are still here in Fayette County, Ohio. We can tell you where the mill was in Rockville (or Rock Mills as it is known today). We also still own and farm some of the original farm land located on the Yeoman Road. This is the land that Walter bought for his son Enaos Fountain Yeoman in 1821, 200 acres for $500.00.
If you would like to know more about the family please contact us at:

Yeoman Farms
William L. & Jenny L.
Jarvis Yeoman from Chester Co., PA to Ohio to Tennessee

I have tried to email you, but it kicks back.
Your Jarvis Yeoman, was related to my Yeoman's of Coatesville, Newlin and Reading, PA (all in Chester County) I believe Jarvis' father and our gggrandfather, Benjamin Franklin Yeoman's father, were brothers.
Jarvis was placed in someone else's home as an apprentice, as was Ben, but for different reasons. I have Jarvis' obit from Chester County, PA. He died in Weakley County, TN, where he lived. He married Tabitha (Klutts) Yeoman. She was previously married and had at least one child, Oren Stigler/Steigler. Oren moved to Oklahoma and after Jarvis died, Tabitha moved out to her son's in Oklahoma as well.
Jarvis was ill for nearly three weeks prior to his death, 4/12/1919, with blood poisoning from a foot injury. He had also suffered a stroke in 1917.
MILITARY:
136th Regiment Infantry
Organized at Camp Chase, Ohio, and mustered in May 18, 1864. Left State for Washington, D.C., May 13. Attached to 2nd Brigade, DeRussy's Division, 22nd Army Corps, to July, 1864. 3rd Brigade, DeRussy's Division, 22nd Corps, to August, 1864. Assigned to garrison duty at Forts Ellsworth, Williams and in the Northern Defenses of Washington until August. Repulse of Early's attack on Washington July 11-12. Mustered out August 30, 1864.
Regiment lost during service 2 Officers and 23 Enlisted men by disease. Total 25.
He also served in the Civil War's Naval surface and in his death notice, said to have travleled the world 4 times over.

I have some more information on him, but not much. I do not, however, have information on his father, or why exactly Jarvis was placed with the Phipps family as an apprentice at the age of 10 (he is still there in the 1850 census)
He then married Lucinda "Elmira" Himmelright on 27 Mar 1856 at the Vincent Parsonage, Vincent Township, PA, they had one child, Lewis C. Yeoman in 1/1857. Elmira died 4/1857. His son Lewis married Lucinda "Cynthia" Drake. Lewis died 7/27/1901 in Evansville, Indiana. Jarvis moved out to Ohio and married Catharine "Jane" Burns, they had no children, but adopted Clarinda Crider. I don't know what happened to Clarinda, but Jane moved on, bitterly, saying she was widowed since he divored Jane and moved to TN and married Tabitha. They had Rebecca Estella & Lydia Celeste Yeoman. Rebecca married ? and Lydia married Arthur Heathcot.
Jarivs is buried in the Butler Cemetery, Weakley Co., TN

I have Harry Yeoman born Wanstrow, Somerset 1867. He is the son of William and Jane Nichols/Nicholaas Yeoman. Is he too modern to be your Harry? Harry came to Canada at age 18 along with most of his brothers. Also living in Wanstrow are 3 other Yeoman families on the 1881 census. Actually Yeoman is a very popular name in that area with 33 Yeoman marriages at All Saints Church in Nunney. At a search of the LDS site, I found 6 William/Jane Yeoman families! Who knew!

Hi Lisa - thanks for the info on the Yeomans. if you got my earlier e-mail you know that Woodlands is the place here in Sleights where I live. The house can be seen quite easily from my garden. It has now been turned into luxury apartments - you may like to buy one and return to your family home !!. I will keep in touch with anything further. If you find out how Robert Yeoman died I would be grateful.
Regards
David

Hi Jimmie - I too am researching the Yeomans in Whitby. However it is quite a common name around here. Mine is a distant link (a Robert Yoeman who married a Mary Fletcher around 1860. Their daughter Mary Jane Yeoman was my great-aunt. Robert Yeoman was drowned at sea around 1864). However you might contact Lisa Holmes at lisajh123@aol.com who is researching the Yeomans directly. If you find mention of my Robert Yeoman I would appreciate any information.
Regards
David

Don't mean to seem impolite to butt in. Most of the coat's of arms obtained from the internet and these "dodgy shops", are incorrect. a coat of arms was granted to individuals and not families. E.g. Three Yeoman brothers go into battle at ,say, Hastings 1066. They would each have a different coat of arms. The internet can't know which brother you are decended from. Happy hunting Tanya.

Arch Yeomans:
Sorry this took me so long to reply. I have very little information about the Yeoman(s); Youman(s); Yeaman(s) of England. My ancester Christopher Yeoman (the spelling varies) was born about 1636-1638 in England. Probably around London. He left England about 1656. I do know he had a brother William and a sister (who I always forget her name) still in England. I wish I could get more information. I have tried in the past to get people to help but no one ever replied offering to help with the search. I am willing to pay for copies and mailing but I really don't want to send money to some to research for me and then say there isn't any information.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Jon Edward Yeoman
Indiana - U.S.A.

I would like to get in contact with you re: the info you have collected. I am very interested in a John Yoman who around 1480 and 1481 was the shipmaster of the "Trinity Bole" aka "Trinity Bull" and the "John of London" in London, England.

There is also a William Yoman mentioned in Eltham, England sometime around 1400 who was obviously a yeoman of the household there.
