Seeking information on a Mary Elizabeth Virginia Yorkshire, Born Mar 1852 in Rockbridge, Virginia. I am trying to track down information on her children with William, particularly Alice Dunaway who marries Frederick Hickman about 1891 in Rockbridge, Virginia. Any information you have on the yorkshire-Dunaway-Hickman lines would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. R. Mills

Thomas Yorkshire b. abt 1750, d. 1837 Augusta Co. Virginia

Thomas Yorkshire was born about 1750,place unknown. He died on Feb. 20, 1837 in Augusta Co. Virginia. He had at least two children,John and Nancy. Nancy's husband was Mathew M. Woods who died in the war of 1812 leaving Nancy with a infant. I believe this child was Mathew M. Woods (My gggrandfather),who was born about 1813. Nancy Woods was living in Augusta Co. in 1850 and was age 60. Living with her was a Mathew M. Woods age 37. On the previous page was living James Yorkshire who I assume was her brother John's son. In 1860 James Yorkshire and Mathew Woods are both living around Lexington in Rockbridge Co. Would like to contact other researchers on the Yorkshire's and Woods lines. Would also like to know if the Nathan Woods and Nancy Yorkshire connection has ever been proven and if there were two Nancy's.

Hello Mary,
Good to finally her from a descendant of Thomas Yorkshire. I would be glad to share what info I have and would like to hear about any info you may have gathered on the Yorkshire's. I have found a little more info on Thomas. It seems he came to America in 1772 from England and may have been a convict transported to the colonies to help settle the country. This needs more research, but I am sure of the date and country of departure. Thomas was on the tax rolls of Prince Edward county Va. in 1785 and apparently married a woman named Polly Nokes in July of 1782 in the same county. When Nancy (Yorkshire) Woods died in 1859 her son listed her parents as Thomas and Polly Yorkshire, which helps confirm his wifes first name. Do you know where Thomas and Nancy are buried? I know Thomas lived around Fairfield, as did Nancy. Nancy died in Rockbridge Co., so I'm not sure where she is buried. She apparently moved to Rockbridge with her son Matthew. I am hoping you may have some additional information, as these Yorkshire's did not leave many clues. I have seen Thomas's Revolutionary War declarations, but would like to see his service records, as well as his son-in-laws Matthew Wood, who died in the War of 1812. Hope to hear back from you and thanks for replying to the query.

Bill Patterson
