Hi! I'm also wondering if I am related to Emiliano Zapata.

Here's what I know:
Emiliano Zapata
Eulalio Zapata (Emiliano's Zapata Son)- My Great-Grandfather
Pantaleon Zapata Huerta- My Grandfather - From: San Ciro De Acosta, San Luis Potosi
Manuel Zapata (Uncle), Francisco Zapata (Uncle)and Teresa Zapata-Resendiz (My Mom was born in 1936, her Mom's name is Esperanza Resendiz Hernandez)From: Rio Verde San Luis Potosi *I also know my Grandfather (Grandfather)had other ilegitimate children.

It's my understanding Emiliano Zapata had a lot of children. Just wondering cause we do have the Zapata last name in our family.

We do have a photo of Eulalio Zapata.

Hello, I know this is long after you wrote the original thread, but I was also told I was distantly related to Emiliano Zapata. I was told he was a great great uncle or cousin or something like that. I am trying to see if this is a fact. My grandfather's name was Nasario Zapata Garcia. His great grandmother was Refugio Zapata and her dad was Longino Zapata. I know they were from the Piedras Negras area. I would appreciate it if you could tell me if any of these names sound familiar.
Thank you so much, Valerie Medina Chiasson

Re: Looking for Zapata of the Philippines origin

Glad to hear that i'm not alone who wants to know about the origin of the Zapatas here in the Phils. My father is Fredrick Friza Zapata who hails also from Tarlac, Tarlac.

My understanding is all the Zapatas in the Phils. originally hails from Tarlac. What I remember is, the town in Tarlac where the original Zapatas in the Phils belongs is not far from Hacienda Luisita - I don't know if that is Santo Tomas. What I remember is there is a long litigation about a parcel of land in the area owned by the Zapatas, the case is against a mayor and if my memory serves me right the name is Mayor David. The case is already subject for decision about 35 years ago. I heard this during a reunion of the Zapatas, the first and only reunion that I attended.

My sister says originally the Zapatas hails from Portugal which I doubt. I believe that the Zapatas hails from Mexico because it is the home of the famous Zapatistas. The Phils. has a history about a galleon from Mexico doing trading business in the Phils. during the Spanish occupation. I believe Zapata's all over the world originated from Mexico but the question is we belong to who's ancestry? If tailoring is the trade mark then its a good take off to begin with....

Trinidad's father was Jose Zapata married to Marta Villarreal. Jose's father was Marcos Zapata married to Francisca Sanchez. As far as I know Marcos and Francisca died in San Antonio. Not sure about Jose & Marta but Trinidad and her kids were born in Lockhart I believe. Will need to verify that. Hope this helps.

The fact that they were married in Lockhart in that time frames leads me to believe that they are part of the same family I am researching, however the only info I have at this time on the Villarreals is that it looks like brother and sister Villarreal married brother and sister Zapata's. Hopefully someone researching on the Villarreal board will see your post and reply. One of the descendants from George Villarreal and Herculana Zapata is the one who has given me the info on this Zapata line. I will try to contact him again to see if I can come up with additional info for you on the Villarreals. This is very exciting because if the info matches mine, this can expand the Zapata line. You might have notices that someone else also posted to me regarding the same line and it looks like that is a match also. let me know.

It looks like this may be a promising lead. Agustin Zapata that is my dad's grandfather was born in 1903 as well. Did Marcos pass away in 1935 in San Antonio? Francisca passes away in 1941 in San Antonio as well. I got Francisca's approximate birthdate from the 1900 Federal Census.

OK, here we go, lets see if we can trim this tree down. Our family's Marcos Zapata was born in 1859 in Rio Grande Zacatecas. I haven't been able to find a birthdate for Maria Francisca but I show they were married on 4 Feb 1878 in Rio Grande Zacatecas. My records show they had 10 children and the last born was Agustin Zapata in 1903. Marcos and Francisca's descendents are one of my missing link in the Zapata line. I have just begun to find some of their great grandchildren. Some still live in Lockhart Texas. Marcos had 7 siblings that I know of and our line comes in thru his brother Zeferino Zapata who was married to Geronima Salazar in Rio Grande also. This family is huge! I have been trying to put it together for the past 30 yrs!!! Since my research ends with Agustin. You will have to fill in from there if this is your line. let me know, I can give you more info if this matches.

Hello. I think it may be possible, but it is really hard to tell. I don't live near my family so I am trying to find info out from far away. If you have some ages or approximates dates of birth for Marcos and Francisca, we may be able to narrow it down. As far as the lineage goes, my dad's name is Agustin, his father is Alfredo, his father is Agustin and his father is Marcos. I am showing Marcos as being born around June of 1850 and Francisca in November of 1861 and both were born in Mexico. Any help you can give would be appreciated and if I could help you in any way, I will try. Thank you.

Yes it could be Jesse also. They were married in Lockhart, TX May 1903. Not sure if Pedro is his brother. No one in the family knows his family. Victor 1911-1978 was born in Caldwell county. Sabas 1904-1986, Adela 1913-2009, Beatrice 1920-1981, & Jesus jr 1923-?, there was also a Mittrio 1906-? & Catherine 1909-? that must of died very young. Victors half siblings are (most of these name from the 1910 census) Maria 1881-?, George 1883-1937, Marta 1890-1966 (Jose Zapata 1891-1956), Margarita 1886-1923, Anita 1893-1930, Aurelio 1896-1947, & Jesusa 1899-?, they mother was Anita Patterson.

Arturo, just happened upon your posting today. I was answering another posting on the Zapata board. I think I may also be researching the same Zapata line. I have a Marcos Zapata married to a Francisca Sanchez who lived in Lockhart Texas. I have some of their children as Jose, Rosalio, Herculana, Apolonio, Juan and Hasemiro. Who was Alredo's father? Unfortunately, I don't have any names of descendants except for Jose and Herculana, and I don't have an Agustin shown as one of the sons of Marcos and Francisca but I am going to look at the census again. Do you think that this could be the same family? Let me know

Hello, in answer to your previous question, yes, the v does stand for Villarreal. Would Jesus's name also be Jesse? Where did Jesus remarry Rosa Gonzales at? Would jesse have a brother named Pedro? What are the names of Victors brothers and sisters? Where was Victor born? Were they from the Lockhart Texas area? Do you have any approximate birth dates? I do not at this time, but I suspect Jose and Maria would be in their 90's if not older. Let me know if any of this info matches in any way. Thanks for your post. will await yours.
