I live in Laredo and also looking for Zuniga. My grandmothers father was Rafael Zuniga and was treasure of Nuevo Laredo but came to Laredo due to revolution. Have found alot of info on Zunigas going back to Spain. Alonso de zuniga was the 9th viceroy of New Spain (Mexico) from 1585 to about 1590 and from him or from Alonso Ortiz de zuniga came the early zunigas to northern mexico. Would like to know if you got any other info. LLanes is a name of some families here in Laredo as well and there are alot of long term zunigas here who have been very sucessful.

I wonder the same thing..
All I know is that Zuniga is Spanish, and derives from Zúñiga, which is Basque. Basque is/was a region in northeastern Spain and southwestern France.
Zuniga is/was also a town in Navarre, an important Christian kingdom of medieval Spain.
The House of Zúñiga (or Casa de Zúñiga) was a Spanish noble lineage.

My grandpa, Faustino Zuniga, is part Aztec.

Hi Tim, the mother of Pepita Zuniga, Santana R Zuniga, had not just one dauther but 6 daughters and 3 sons. I am the great grand dauther of Santana sister
Anne Marie Allec Zuniga, I was very close to /pepita Duran of La Puente she lived with her brohter Andrew Zuniga in Fresno then moved to La Puente unfortantely Pepita remained married only in name sake, had a hard times, but a great heart her dauther was mentally ill, and the unfortante death of Edward Allec and Anna Marie Zuniga Allec had only one dauther , and Louis jean'Allec only had one dauther and one son, so since the Zuniga family did't bare children to keep the bloodline going why I dont no, since they came from a huge family upbring, the men always took care of all there sisters, and other that uncle johnny and uncle jack no other children after there generation was born or bothered to keep touch after there passing, if they only where alive all my aunts, Le-Elenor (lee) married to Joe Avila, La Puete/ Andrew E Zuniga(never married) Pepita Elenore Pepita Zuniga Duran, never lived with her husband why no one every talked about it AND I MEAN EVER, I SPENT EVERY weekend at her house 40 years she took her shame to her grave, the greed-shame of some in the Zuniga family is truely a heartbreaking to think about, I pray to pepita every night, and thank god I enhertied her strengh will always keep her spirt all of the Zuniga of La Puente alive, the Zungia, actually are more connected to the Gonzalez'Ralph, Capisstrino San Luis Obisbo,
this 19th generation Califonia Native (PROUD Pepita) it was a different time back in those days I guess your family being from mexico not spain is the reason why email me some time I have many pictures of the Zuniga, Gonzoalez Allec side since most didnt have there own families I was given many keepsakes that I'd like to share..

Susan,
I know you posted this awhile ago, but I just found it in researching furhter on the Zuniga family. Hijinio was also my great great grandfather. This is my line, Hijinio and Felicitas had Inez who is my great grandmother, she married Edward Maese and had Maria Maese who is my grandmother. Did you ever find further back from Hijinio? He is as far as I have gotten, but family back in San Eli are going to talk to someone who is still alive on the Zuniga side to find more info for me, but don't know how long that will take. My mother and I would like to go back and visit, but with all the drug violence going on, we are waiting awhile till things cool off and hopefully that will be soon. All my family on my grandmother's side is from there so I'd like to see the cemetary for grave markers. I am looking for Alarcon, Maese, Zuniga, Bustillos, and others. Any info would be appreciated. By the way my name is Sandra

Dearest Delia Q.
Today is your lucky day.
I am the grandson of Crespina Zuniga, who married later and became Crespina Lozano. She died in Weslaco, but is buried in the Donna cemetery. I have the info on that.
I am the great grandson of Enrique Zuniga. I have been working on my genealogy for many years, but this past October I have really moved on it and have found some wonderful cousins. I have also, recently, found the last surviving direct descendant of Enrique Zuniga, Antonio (Tony) Zaragoza Zuniga, 83 yrs old and lives in Pennsylvania. Tony has also given me alot of info on the name of Enrique Zuniga Jrs' mother and on and on. I am willing to share all this info with you. Obviously we are related. Also, a big reunion is being planned this summer for Lozano/Zuniga in Weslaco. So, here is my email address: alozano15@cox.net.
Please write and then we can talk more over the phone or email. I live and Pensacola, FL. Blessings, Armando Lozano
Dear Susan,

It's been quite a few years since you wrote this message, but I have some information on our family that may be of interest.

Pascual Zuniga, of Galeana, Chihuahua, Mexico married Maria Isabel Galaz (b. about 1812 and d. 2 Mar 1892 in San Elizario, El Paso, TX). The children I have found so far:
Jose Maria
Maria Manuela
Maria Bibiana
Jose Bonifacio Lorenso
Ydelfonzo Eufemiano
Higinio "Eugene"
Bruno

Let me know if you want dates and to share some information. My direct line is through Maria Manuela.
