I was born and raised in the United States
My parents were born in Greece and My grandfather was French. I would like to know some more about my family name and find out some deeper information about the name Cottis. I have got many responses that indicate that the name Cottis derived from England which I find interesting. Get back to me and let me know what you know.

I do not know how far into the name and family you have gone, but I was wondering what you know of the family in America. I live in Portland, Oregon. My greatgrandfather came to America his name was Alfred Cottis. What do you know? Please reply if connected.

My grandfather came from Chios, Greece. As far as I know Cottis was his original name, but I have been told by other relatives that it was shortened. I still do not know. I also have found many Cottis' from England. I live in Ohio and I am 26 years old. Any info or questions, please get back to me.

Hallo Ryan

I'd be intereted to know about your Alfred Cottis.
In my family I have an Alfred Cottis born about 1832 in Witham, Essex.

His parents were Stephen and ELizabeth, both born in Bocking in Essex.

I have no further info about Alfred, so I don't know if he survived infancy or emigrated!

Surnames: Cottage, Free, Swan, Kidman, Pamenter
There are Cottages in London and elsewhere who predate the adoption of Cottage as a surname by the Cottis family of Linton. Some of the Cottages in Linton began as Cottis, but others may not have done so. There appears to be two families of Cottages, but it seems that everyone called Cottage belongs to one or the other. I am descended from James Cottage (born c1794) and Elizabeth Swan of Hadstock and would be happy to share the results of my searches with anyone linked to my family.
