I am trying to locate anyone familiar with ANNA HAVSGAARD or any HAVSGAARD. She immigrated to Canada on board the Scandinavian-American Liner the OSCAR II on April 18, 1927, point of entry was Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. She was twentyfive years old and ended up in New Norway Alberta, where she had a son out of wedlock (my father) in 1929 and put him up for adoption in Edmonton, Alberta through the Buella Home. HELP PLEASE

My grandfather (Freeman Olson and his sister Clara) were adopted by the Havsgaards in a farming community outside of Brookings ,South Dakota. Freeman and Claras mother died at a young age and their father could not take care of them. They took the Havsgaard name. If alive, Freeman would be about 100 years old. Freeman farmed until his death in 1952. Clara married George ? and moved to St Paul, MN. (sister Clara should not be mixed up with Freemans wife, Clara Knutson Havsgaard Olson)
Hope this helps you. Although my father is dead, I do have two aunts who may be able to answer questions.

Cindy:

Do you have pictures of any of the Havsgaard family from South Dakota? My cousin from White, SD just sent me a picture of a Havsgaard with two females in the pictures. This man was supposedly comfirmed with my great grandfather, Ole Olson Moran in Norway. The man looks like relatives of ours and in discussing with my cousin, he said that his grandfather stated the Havsgaard's were related somehow to the Moran's. Would you know anything more about this? May I e-mail you a copy of the photo to see if you can identify the people? If so, please let me know what your current e-mail address is. Mine is laurie183 at earthlink dot net.

I am Mark Havsgaard Jr., son of Mark Havsgaard from Orville & Marjorie Havsgaard. Orville's mother resides in Brookings, S.D. and is still alive to my knowledge. They moved to Riverside, CA. Unfortunately, both Marge & Orville have passed. My uncle, Paul Havsgaard(eldest son) has researched the family tree the most. He spends most of his time in Romania helping children through the church.
Anyway, I can dig up some pics if your interested.
Orville & Marge had 7 children. Paul, Joy, Mark, Sherri, David, James, & Donna.
Hope this helps.

Cindy: I am married to Clara Olson Trygstad's great grandson. She married George Trygstad. I have a very large print of a family tree that mom gave to me. Unfortunately Freeman & Clara's family is pretty incomplete, probably due to the adoptions. It listed their biological parents as Sam (1871-1905) and Olena (1873-1893) Olson. It also has Clara, Freeman, 2 of their have siblings listed and some of their kids, but no ancestors. Also, marriage records stated that Clara's last name was "Bertness" when she married George.

Good luck!
Selena

Does any one now anything about the life of Johannes Olai Havsgaard? He was born in 1889 at the farm Havsgaard/Hafskor near Eikelandosen in Fusa, Norway. His parents was Knut Haavik 1849-1923 and Marta Havsgaard 1857-1935. Johannes Olai emigrated to the United States in 1911, supposedly to visit relatives in South Dakota. He died young (in 1921?) and never returned to Norway.

The basic events of his life in Norway - entry in censuses, birth/baptism, confirmation and perhaps his departure from a nearby port could be found in online Norwegian resources.
