I wonder if he could be a brother to my relative. her name was Maria Erika Kangas and she was born 1-30-1859 in Juhonpieti, Norbotten, Sweden, directly across the river from Overtornea, Lappi, Finland. (both border towns). She married a Finn from Lappi. She died 7-7-1937 in Minneapolis, Minn. let me know if you think there may be a connection. Thanks!

To Marilynn Munoz: I'm sorry but my great grandfather Erick Kangas was an only child. I suppose there could still be a chance that they were related in some way. I hope I can use the names of the towns you mentioned to help me in my search.

My Great Grandfather's name was Jack Kangas. his wife was Jenny Kangas ( I don't know her maiden name). Jenny had a daughter named Lilly and Jack was her adoptive father. Lilly was born February 16, 1918 in Baltimore I think. Is any of this familiar to you?

Keith, I just saw your message. I had a grandfather Jack Kangas in MI, in the UP. What time frame are you looking in? Jack had a brother William, who was much younger. Jack died in 1946, was in his early 60s then. The family came from Finland circa 1900 via Massachusetts, was in the UP by 1906, I think.
