Hello family members,

I am Gerard Megens from Holland; I want to inform you about the family roots. All people with surname Megens have the same ancestors in The Nederlands in the province of Brabant. Someone has made an extensive search and in 1999 all information has edited in a Dutch family book. Without any doubt people in the USA with this name have moved from Holland towards the States. I am curious to hear about you!
Friendly greetings,
Gerard Megens

My mothers maiden name is Megens. She was born in the Enidhoven area near Someren. Her father is William Megens. He was born in 1903 I believe in that same area and is still alive today. He lives in Ontario, Canada. He married Betty VandeWorp (sp?).
Thats all I know.

In the Megens genealogybook I found probably your grandfather: Wilhelmus Johannes Megens, born 12 febr. 1903; but according my information he married Anna Maria Heesakkers; your mother should be then Nellie Megens, born 5 oct. 1938, indeed in Someren, who married Hubertus Vergeer on 20 july 1957 in Beaverton (Ontario-Canada). By accident I live quite near Eindhoven and Someren.

You are right on all counts. My GrandFather, William, died just 1 week short of his 99th birthday, Feb 4th, 2002. He was succeeded by just under 100 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. I would be interested in finding out more about his parents and their parents. How far back does you Megens book go? Are there any more copies available that you are aware of?

Thanks for your reply.

The family book goes back as far as the year 1370, whereas the name "Megens" was introduced about 1550. At this moment I can't tell you if there are still copies available, because the book was sold by subscription. The book has been made by the family Megens-Leenders at Heeze.

With friendly greetings
Gerard Megens

Funny thing, I just found out today that my Grtandfather, whom I mentioned earlier, had the book. When he died last Feb. it was given to my mother. So I guess I have one to review, I can wait to have a look at it. Thanks for all your info.

Beste Irmgard,

Gerard Megens
