Please post your query to the most appropriate message board.

In this case, Cornwall in England seems far more relevant than Lanarkshire in Scotland.

Thank you.

I realise this was posted some time ago but hope yo'll get the reply. The Popplestones originate mainly from Devon and Cornwall but at least one branch of the family moved to Yorkshire in the early 1800s. That branch were woolcombers and I guess they moved when the traditional methods of production started to die out.

I had a gg grandmother Agness Popplestone born in Loddiswell Devon about 1804. She married John Sampson and they had nine children. At least 3 of the children immigrated to Australia in the 1860's. Unfortunately I don't know much about the Popplestones but there was certainly a lot of them in Loddiswell at the time.

Hi

My maternal grandmother was Lucy Popplestone, she came from Hampshire UK. She was born in 1866. Her father was Thomas Popplestone born in 1833 from Salisbury Wiltshire UK. The family did originate from Kingsbridge Devonshire I think.

I hope this is helpful. I have some photos if you would be interested.

Regards

Erica.

My great great great gandparents lived in Kingsbridge before moving to South Wales. A lot of the west country Popplestones went on the Olympic to America. Very few left in the UK but i'd like to trace some.

Hi

My great great grandfather John Popplestone was born in Kingsbridge in 1803, the son of Thomas Popplestone & his wife Grace(nee Phillips). At some point John moved to Salisbury, Hampshire and married Clarinda Percey. They had five children including, my great grandfather, Thomas, born in 1833 and after the birth of their last child, Clarinda born in 1840, moved back to Kingsbridge when John lost his job. John's wife Clarinda died soon after they moved there of tuberculosis.
There are many Popplestone graves in Loddiswell, we visited there and took many photos.
My great grandfather, Tom returned to Salisbury, where he worked as a tailor, later becoming a photographer, he married Fanny Tiller and they had twelve children. His brothers Andrew and John remained in Devon, their older sister, Ann went to Hampshire and married quite late in life
I am not sure what happened to Clarinda.

I have some other information and family photos.

Best wishes

Heather. (Erica).
