In reading family stories, and in hearing accounts from Great Aunts and Uncles, and a little bit of research of my own. My Great Grand Father was the Uncle to Karol Wojtyla. How do I go about finding if this is accurate or not?

The Pope's parents were Carol Joseph Wojtyla and Emilia Kaczorowska, daughter of Feliks Kaczorowski and Maria Szolc. That is all the information I have on his ancestry.

I have family from Wadowice...the Pisarz family (maybe the Bielamovicz, Knapik, and Sypel families as well). What information do you have...I would be happy to share what I have found and would love to learn as much as possible about any possible relationship to the Pope.

Thanks...Dan

My mom's maiden name is woitel and her father is Frank Woitel, who died just this year. One of his cousin's, second maybe, is Pope John Paul. This is a good thing because it'll make me pass my history class because we are studying our ancestry! yay!

My husbands last name is Wojtylak, according to his grandmother they added the "k" on when his great grandfather came over. He apparently grew up in the same town as the Pope, and they are believed to be cousins. I think that his name was Andrew Wojtyla. Does anyone have this man in their records? The line has been so hard to trace.

My name is Rod Wojtula - Calgary, Alberta, Canada (My Father & Grandfather name were Wojtyla & changed during WWII???). We had relatives in the area - one being Andrew Wojtyla and the other Carl/Karl Wojtyla (Brothers). Not sure if this is the line you are looking for - have had difficulty tracing the family back to old country location.

I haven't had the opportunity in years to get back into my research. But this morning I found that the pope was born in 1920. My husbands family manifest states that they arrived in NYC on Feb 28 1893. Before the birth of the Pope. I'm guessing that the man in this picture is NOT the Pope. However I still need to get to Poland. The last place of res. is Renewo?

My grandmother,Angelina Wojtyla/Wojcik was related to the Pope John Paul II, I don't know how. But when he was a Cardinal (the Pope) came to Hamtramck, Michigan my Aunts visted with him.

If any can help me make the connection, I think they where cousin some how.
