Lambhill Cemetery - Glasgow

My great grandfather was William Dingwall and he died September 28, 1891 at age 57. He is buried in Lambhill Cemetery Lair789 Section A. The lair owner is Alexander Dingwall of 210 Garscube Street.
I am looking for any descendents of my Dingwall family connected with this cemetery. The cemetery foundation said their records are incomplete and their is no stone surmounting the grave to determine who else is buried there.
Thank you - Valerie Dingwall Barrett - Cape Breton

I also have family buried at this cemetery. The family I'm interested is the Faith Family. Is there anyone near to this cemeterey that could find out if there is a headstone on these graves...lair no. 76, 77 ,78 and 1042. Thanks

Valerie,
You were asking in an old post on Ancestry if there were any Robins buried at Lambhill Cemetery.
I looked up a site which gives names of those buried there, and there are four...
George Robin died 10 Jan 1882 aged 82
George Robin died 10 Sep 1896 24?
Jane Robin(Currie) died 25 Dec 1911 78
Margaret Park Robin died 30 Oct 1939 73

Are any of these names the person you were looking for?

Can you tell me how to find my family lair in Lambhill Cemetery - I used to go to the gravesite with my mother when I was young but couldn't find it now. You mention a 'site' containing the names of those people buried there...would appreciate this site information.
Thanks in advance

Alice,
I looked back at the old posts on this thread - and there has been a mix-up, mostly my fault. The thread was about looking for them at Lambhill Cemetery - right?
Well, I did find them, but not a Lambhill. And then by the time I noted down some details, I had forgotten that they weren't at Lambhill at all!

Try a google for: Memento-Mori - Scotland.
Click Burial Indices
Scroll down to Janefield Cemetery (Eastern Necropolis)

Then wait for the download (see it downloading at bottom left of page). Now Scroll down and you will find
19 Robin people are buried there, including George, died 1882; George, died 1896; Jane Robin (Currie) died 1911; and Mgt Park Robin, died 1939.

Alice, I think I owe you an apology for not telling you that it was Janefield Cemetery - so I apologise.

Now, you say that you "Went to visit the grave at Lambhill"... But that is a different cemetery. ...Did you live near to Gallowgate at Parkhead on the eastern side of Glasgow when you went to see the grave?

That is where the cemetery is: Gallowgate, Glasgow.
....I went there about two years ago, and tramped about in the rain searching for the Robin family grave, and though I searched and searched, the graveyard is very large and I had no luck in finding it.

Someome else on this thread said that you should contact the City Council at 20 Trongate, and that is right, but I have heard that they sometimes want a very high fee to tell you where the grave is - but you could try them anyway to see what they say.

Hope this helps, and SORRY! about not telling you about it not being Lambhill.

Brian

P.S. When you saw the graves, you must have gone in the Gallowgate main entrance. Did you notice a football ground next to the cemetery? If you remember that football ground then that was Celtic's football club.

Hi Brian:
I grew up in Glasgow so I know all the places you mention including Glasgow Green and Celtic park. The Necropolis is in the Gallowgate and, yes, if you didn't know the location of the grave it would be almost impossible to find it.
My family are buried in Lambhill Cemetery which is in the north-west of the city....it is also a huge sprawling place with thousands of graves. I will follow your instructions and see what I can find out - I have also emailed the City Council for info and await their response. Thanks for the info, Brian, I really do appreciate it
Alice

Alice,
You should be able to find the Lambhill list of inscriptions following the method I outlined for Memento-Mori. ...The problem is though that I suspect that what is transcribed onto these records may not always be the full story. For instance, I was looking for someone who was supposed to be buried at St Johns, Baillieston - and they weren't on the records that Memento-Mori had for St Johns.

However, upon contacting the church, it was discovered that the person was definitely in the graveyard. And so,
if a church is directly attached to a graveyard, then you have a better chance of making progress.

If it is a large cemetery not attached to any particular church, I would say it would be more difficult,
and it may mean contacting Glasgow City Council at 20 Trongate.

I have family in St Kentigern's, Lambhill and Lambhill EXT. For my grandmother I went to the wee office in Lambhill with her married name and maiden name, date of birth and death that I got from death certificate and they got someone to show me the grave. For my grandfather I wrote to Cemeteries & Crematoria Registrar 20 Trongate Glasgow G1 5ES, with his name and dates of birth and death they got back to me saying he was in St Kentigern's with plot number and a list of other family member's with him and a phone number call and someone would take me to the grave and it didn't cost me anything that was about 2003.I don't know about now??
