My 3rd grt. grandfather JOHN CROCKER was baptized 29 Oct 1797 in Black Torrington, Devon., England. It is believed his parents were John & Mary or Grace CROCKER. JOHN died 22 Apr 1879 in West Oxford Twp., Oxford Co., Ontario, Canada. He immigrated shortly before 1860, bringing his wife SARAH HEAL CROCKER and her parents (BENJAMIN & ANN LOOSEMORE HEAL)and children with them. He was a farmer. I visited their gravesites in 1998, and have photos of the stones on my private family web site. I am hoping to contact other CROCKER, HEAL, LOOSEMORE researching this family, and perhaps find some photos of these people!! I would sure love to see what they looked like!! John & Sarah had a son SAMUEL (my gg grpa) b. 1843 in LAPFORD, Devon., ENG. He may have married twice, we think if this is true, the first was SUSAN ANN ROWSE, mother of my grt. grandmother, MARY JANE CROCKER(I have a photo of her) b. 1856 in Devon., married THOMAS DALGLEISH. I believe SAMUEL'S second wife was ANN COUCH. Basically, I would like to find the ancestors of JOHN CROCKER, and prove his parents'names. I am very interested in obtaining family photos/copies of paintings, etc. too. If you are interested in viewing my website, please contact me privately. Thank you.

Sorry - my mistake. James Crocker in my line from Northam, Bideford was probably born in the 1820s. He married a Fanny Elizabeth Witheridge. There may still be a connection further back or with siblings.

Hi Kathy, I do not have family in Black Torrington but I do in Shebbear which is right next door! Unfortuntely I do not have a connection with John in 1797 but did wonder if you had got further back since you posted your message. I have been stuck in Shebbear with a marriage of Hugh to Frances Hutchings for over 50 years! in spite of researchers
Best of luck with your tree
Marian
