Walker Co. Marriage Records - 1879 - 1883

Walker Co. Marriage Records - 1879 - 1883

Classification: Query
Surnames: Winters, Dunning and allied families
Is there a book or record of marriages falling between these dates?

I'm looking for marriage record for James Polk Winters and Penelope T. Dunning (her first husband was named Johnson) which should've taken place in this date range.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,

Ms. Tommie Clayton

Look at this URL for Familysearch.com. It shows they were married in San Jacinto County, Texas.

The public library here has a marriage listing book for San Jacinto, 1870-1910. If you want I can go look it up for you later today.

Barbara,

That would be great! Thank you so much for offering to look for this couple in both counties!!!

Their name variations:
James, James P., James Polk, Jim, J.P. [Winters]
Penelope, Penelope T., Pennie, Nellie [nee Dunning, 1st husband's surname was Johnson]

James' 1st wife died February 1878
1880 San Jacinto June 24/25 census list him as a widower
James and Penelope's 1st child was born May 1883

Well, I went and looked for the marriage of James and Penelope in the San Jacinto marriage listings and it was not listed. His first marriage was.

If you look at the Walker county history book from 1986 and it said his first wife died on 11/3/1881 and he married his second wife in 1882 and their first child was born May of 1883 so say they were married sometime from July-Sept 1882. Its a theory.

I will go back and look at the Walker County book of marriages and see if they might be in there.

I looked through a file they had at the public library on John Freland Winters and the only thing I found about his son marrying Penelope was her name. No date. Darn.

It's a mystery waiting to be solved.
