Surnames: McDonald, McDonell, Lamont
In February 1861 alexander attended his brother's wedding in Inverness and listed his address as Chapeltown. Their family were Roman Catholic and he might have been at the seminary there or just working in the area. Does anyone have access to census records or the RC records of this time please? Thankyou

Thanks for that George but is there anything in the 1861 census do you know? Alexander was born in Boleskine, Inverness not Inveravon. I wondered if he might have been at the seminary at Chapeltown
Thanks a lot
Julia

Sorry Julia, I do not have access to the 1861 Census of Inveravon - only the 1841 and 1851 and none of the McDonalds' listed were born in Inverness.
The Scalan was closed as a Seminary in 1799 and used as a croft from then on.
I am not sure of the availabilty at the present time of the Chapeltown RC records that were held in the Elgin Library, however, if you have verified that Alex. McD was not born there, his baptism would not have been recorded there.
