Yes I do have that information. Sorry for the delay.
Hannah married 3 times!
1. To EACHUS 1835?
2. To William BARNETT 1837 Nantwich Cheshire
3. To Samuel BOSSONS 1849 Wolstanton Staffordshire

This explains the children's names

Hey folks,
Just wondering if anyone has any more information on Samuel and Hannah, I am the great great grandson of Sofia Bossons through her marriage to Alfred Shenton (although on their entry in the wedding registry she is named Sofia Boston.)

In the 1891 census Sofia claims she was born in Chester castle prison, something I've had trouble finding any further information about but I have found a death record for a William Barnett in Wolstanton where they were married in the same quarter of the same year as samuel and Hannah's wedding.

Also, the first child listed for Samuel and Hannah is George Bossons, born 1841, the same year as her second child with William Barnett.

I can't find any trace of the family in the 1871 census.

Any information anyone has on untangling this family and Sofia's claim to have been born in prison would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Simon

Hey folks,

Done a little digging and can explain George Bossons being born 1841. He was Samuel's son from his first marriage. I have obtained Sophia's birth certificate and she was indeed born in Chester Castle prison on 29 Dec 1853 but I still haven't been able to find any information on why Hannah was there.

The mystery deepened a little further today when I recieved Hannah and Samuel's wedding certificate dated 8th July 1849.

According to this certificate Samuel was a widiwer, aged 38, son of the late James Bosson and living in Tunstall. Hannah however has herself listed as Hannah Barnett, spinster also aged 38 with no mention of a father on the certificate at all.

I'm starting to wonder if perhaps Hannah's stay in prison (working out between the Bossons' childrens births, can have been no longer than 3 years) was due to William Barnett not having died before her and Samuel's marriage and her being found out for this, hence explaining her reluctance to state her father's name, or admit to having previously been married, on the 1849 wedding certificate.

As I say, at the moment this is just a hunch, but if anyone has any more information to help unravel this mystery I'd be more than grateful to hear any and all ideas.

Thanks,

Simon.
