Kochendorfer's in Germany

Hi all: I've contacted a couple of you on this message board in the past prior to arriving here. I'm searching in vain for the ancestory of Charles Bernhardt Kochendorfer (Karl?). He was born in Germany in 1834 and emigrated in 1859. He went directly to Dayton, OH where he married Maria Theresia Schmeisser who came over on the same ship. I can't seem to get back any further in the line. The Germans to America series lists his origin as Derdingen, Germany (I believe it's really Dertingen). I've checked the LDS films with no success. Can anybody help. I'm at jadrma@aol.com

Hello, I have been trying to reach any
information on the name Kochendofer. I am
a grandchild of Leo Joseph Kochendofer, and the
child of Leo Joseph Kochendofer, jr. I have
not had much contact from my dad, other than a
handful of visits over 60 years. I am from
South Bend Indiana, where my relatives have
been for many years. I know where my Grand
father is buried, in the Notre Dame University
Cemetery. On the tombstone his name is listed
as "Kochendorfer" which I have been told is the
correct spelling and my Grandfather changed
the name to "Kochendofer". I don't really
know why, but on the stone at NDU it is spelled
Kochendorfer.
I know that there are Kochendofers in Indianapolis
Ind, South Bend, Ind, and Schrewsbury, NJ.
To my knowledge my father is still alive, but
I really don't know for sure. He lives in
Shrewsbury, New Jersey @ 124 Monroe St. His name is
Leo J. Kochendofer, born on 7-7-1917.
You might be able to write to him to inquire
about the family name.
I hope that this will help alittle, and I would
really be grateful for any info on the Kochendofer
name in Germany and who they might be. Thank you
for reading my message reply. I can be
reached at (jmd197@pacbell.net)

Sorry, I am having great difficulty tracing my Kochendorfer (Carl). I know of many Kochendorfer's in the USA but cannot connect to them. I have several trees I've collected. My ggf Carl Kochendorfer came from Germany in 1859 and married Maria Theresia Schmeisser (who was on the same ship) once they settled in Dayton, OH. I've got tons of info on my Schmeisser's but Kochendorfer has been a dead-end for me. I'm at jadrma@aol.com

From what I've been able to gather, the Kochendorfer surname originated with the village of Kochendorf which has pretty much been absorbed by Bad Friedrichshall in present-day Baden-Wuerttemberg (historically, the area was the Duchy of Wuerttemberg). The village lies about 6 miles north of Heilbronn, on the east bank of the Neckar River. The Kocher river (more of a creek) flows through the village and into the Neckar at that point.

There were a great number of Kochendorfer (literally "person from Kochendorf") families in the area marked by Sinsheim, Eppingen, Oehringen, and so on, within a 20 mile radius of Heillbronn. My own Kochendorfer line, from Johann Andreas Kochendorfer, originated in Sinsheim. "Andrew" emmigrated in 1732, and spent the majority of the balance of his life in Lancaster County, PA. His progeny could be found in the nearby counties of Berks, Lebanon, Cumberland, and Perry. No doubt they spread even further.

I am Mary Anna Kochenderfer, great-granddaughter of Francis Aloysius Kochendorfer, who came from Hordt, Germany in the early 1800's with his two brothers, Valentine and Michael, and their parents. If you have any connections to the Kochenderfers (Kochendorfers) of Columbus (Blacklick) Ohio, or Rochester, Indiana, please let me know. Valentine and Michael went to Indiana before 1850.

Thank you for responding! I have had a little contact with your branch of Kochenderfers, from Wayne Kochenderfer and from Rhonda Blair. I have recently moved from Texas to Minnesota (grew up in Columbus, Ohio), so I'm still unpacking some of my genealogy stuff. I will give you what I have about Valentine and Michael Kochendorfer (name changed to derfer later). They are my great-great uncles. We have dates, and other information about them. I have actually written a book about my branch of the Kochenderfers, if you want to send me your address, I'll send you a copy (no charge). Yes, I'll appreciate whatever you have. Thank you, Nancy

Nancy, thanks for your reply. I will watch for your e-mail. You may have sent it already. If I don't recognize an e-mail I usually delete it. I hope I didn't. I am sure we are connected, because we know that great-grandfather had two brothers, Valentine and Michael who went to Fulton County, Indiana, from Blacklick (Columbus) Ohio. I have become disabled, temporary, I hope, and cannot get to my records right now, but as soon as I can, I will.

I am doing research on the Kochenderfer family and saw your message. My greatgrandmother was a Sarah Ellen Kochenderfer daughter of a Michael Kochenderfer. She was married to my greatgrandfather Albert E. Burton in 1885 in Fulton County IN. I am looking for more information on the Kochenderfer family. If you have any please contact me.
